Returned late last night from a quick 4 day stay at OKW. This was our first time staying at our home resort. We enjoyed the resort, but found it to be very spread out. We stayed in studio 3020 and found it to be very clean and in good condition. However, the air conditioning unit was broken. When we arrived the room was warm and the bellman turned the temp down. We left the room and didn't return until later in the evening to find the temperature a bit warmer than we had left it. Assuming the room was equipped with one of the sensors that only turns the air on when someone is in the room, we didn't think twice about it and just went to sleep. After a restless nights sleep due to the warmth, we tried turning it off for the day and seeing if it would work when we returned. Again, we returned late that evening turned on the air and went to sleep in the warmth, thinking that the room would proabably cool down a little. Well, the next morning after another restless nights sleep we called maintenance first thing and they said they would send someone out. This was our day at MK, so we left the room and did not return until 11pm to find the room sweltering hot (90 degrees). Obviously nobody had been to the room. We called and they sent someone over. Unfortunately, the motor had burned out and it was going to take him some time to fix it, so he suggested we move rooms so that we can get a decent nights sleep. He called the front desk and requested we be moved due to the temperature in our room. I'm not sure what the front desk said to him, but he had to demand that they move us b/c we could not stay in the room. They finally agreed to move us to another unit, so here we are, two kids in their pajamas, exhausted from a day at the park and we have to pack up all our stuff and move to another room at midnight! At least we got a good nights sleep!! Lesson learned is call maintenance the minute you suspect a problem.

Overall, we had a great time and we're looking forward to testing out BWV in December.

Housekeeping should have noticed the air not working and reported it. There have been a lot of things that have not been done in all DVC units that housekeeping should report and get done, it should not be up to the guests. Of course the air could have broke after housekeeping left. Most places have supervisiors of housekeeping whose sole job is to check on the help. Part of housekeepings job is to change light bulbs, one guest the other day reported a couple of lights needing bulbs, that should never happen. We need supervisors. I would have called the front desk as soon as I discovered the air not working. It should go on right away if you turn it on or lower the termostat. I am not in a big hurry to get to the parks however, in fact for me the parks are the last thing on my list when I go there. Everyone is different that way. When you call the front desk to report a problem you should always get the persons name.

Thanks for the report! What was the view from #3020 like?

EGADS! Sorry to read that. I hope everything else went OK.

Last time at AKL we had a messed up A/C and had to call like four times before it was fixed.

Thats terrible they should have moved you no Questions asked. And Yes house keeping should have notified maint earlier

Please report this when you get home. It will help all of us to give them this feedback.

Is there a number for reporting to DVC as well as OKW?

Simba's Mom - The view was of the golf course. Not much to look at which was OK for us b/c we were at the parks mostly. However, we could see right into the one-bedroom next door, which I found a little odd?

I was actually a little surprised we didn't receive a call the next morning to make sure we were all set in our new room and to apologize for the problem. Obviously, we should have called when we first thought there was a problem.

The maint. guy was very nice and indicated he was running back and forth between SSR and OKW and attempting to train someone at the same time.

The air problem was an inconvenience b/c we had to pack everything up and move it, but at least it was only a studio and not the one bedroom, where we tend to spread out and make ourselves at home. We still had a wonderful time and look forward to our next visit.

Well, as far as light bulbs not working...living in an area with changable weather, much like Florida, we have had several bulbs suddenly burn out when a storm comes through and the barometric pressure has a sudden change. That may be a problem in Florida, too. Since they have so many thunderstorms.

The A/C, yes, it should have been reported ASAP. I was in a studio at OKW last year, and it started pumping hot air into the room in the middle of the night. I wandered into the kitchenette area and turned the unit off and went back to sleep, I called maintenance first thing in the morning and went off to the parks. We returned to a cool room. The units at OKW are 12 to 13 years old...and I don't know if they replace them one a periodic basis or only as needed, where they replaced in the recent rehab cycle? But as the units age, these things happen. I'm sorry you had the inconvenience and discomfort.

That's one thing I don't like about OKW's 1 bedroom setup in most buildings. We have to keep the blinds behind the couch closed because the porch of the studio is right there.

I couldn't figure out the AC controls when we were there last week. Sometimes it seemed a little warm and the AC was not on. I fiddled around and sometimes it came on. Turning on the ceiling fans helped.
