Hi,

I am about to make my first booking as a DVC member, and have a question I hope someone can answer for me? How steep are the stairs between floors at OKW?

We will be staying at our "home" for a total of 11 days, Sunday to Friday in a 1 bedroom, Friday and Saturday in a studio, then Sunday to Thursday in another 1 bedroom. My concern is over whether or not I will need to have a ground floor room or a room in an elevator building?

I have a disability that gives me reduced mobility and I will need a roll in shower for the weekend in the OKW studio, but I will be booking a standard 1 bedroom for the week days.

I have seen photos of the bathroom setup for a 1 bedroom and I will be fine with the step up to the shower, so I don't want to book one of the HA units if I don't need to, so I don't stop someone using it who may need it more than I do.

I would love to have the full balcony, do you get those with ground floor units? I know that if I need an elevator building it will greatly cut down my options as there are only 3 of them, if I remember correctly? I was looking forward to a great view from the second or third floor windows, but if I can't get to the room at the end of a long day, the view won't matter.

Thanks for any help.

The stairs are the same as any between floors of a hotel-type building. I wouldn't say they are particularly steep, but there are several of them to navigate, especially if you end up with a 3rd floor unit.

You do get the full balcony with the 1st floor units, but some of them have a lot of bushes/small trees around them, limiting the view (not all...but some). Even so, I would probably request a first-floor unit, just to keep from having to negotiate two flights of stairs. Alternatively, you could request a room in one of the buildings with elevators (I don't remember the numbers...I'm sure someone else can provide that), letting them know that you have issues with stairs.

Have a great trip!

These are pictures showing the size of the first floor one or two bedroom balconies. It is hard to see the studio ones as they are on the end The stairs can be a bit much at the end of a long day. They go up to a landing and then go up some more just to the second floor so you might want to request an elevator building if you really want a higher floor.

Thank you for the fast responses. Those pictures are great, thank you.

I didn't want to limit the buildings we could be assigned, as I thought that one of the buildings with elevators was a grand villa, so that only leaves 2 that would work for me if I needed an elevator.:confused3 I was just really looking forward to having one of the great views, like in the trip reports that I have read.

If I request an elevator building as a first preference when booking, should I ask for first floor as a back up if they haven't got one?

Thanks.

Make your request this way:
First floor or building with an elevator for medical reasons.

For studios, 1 and 2 bedrooms, there are lots of those on first floor and most people who make a request ask for a higher floor for the view or because they think it will be quieter. Without even requesting 1st floor, you have 50% chance of getting it in many buildings just because there are only 2 floors.
When you check in, ask what floor the room assigned to you is on; you can always have them find something else if it is not 1st floor.
If you have a roll in shower, your reservation has already been handled by Special Needs. Their phone number is
Special Reservations: (407) 939-7807
They do not have direct access to the MS computer, but can still help with making sure you get what you need.

There is more than just a grand villa in the buildings that house them. There are also Studio, 1BR and 2BR units in those buildings.

Thank you for the further information.:goodvibes

I would like to ask about elevator buildings first, for the chance of the view, would they tell me if they haven't got any availability in those for our holiday time? Can I then ask about the ground floor rooms?

When I book, will I be told where I am booked into, for instance if I have got an elevator building, or something on the first floor?
I know that they won't give me a room number in case something happens to it between now and then, but will they tell me about the building type?

Thanks.

They do not reserve a particular building when you make your reservation. They don't assign rooms until check-in, sometimes shortly before.

I would go with SueM's suggestion.
