Hi everyone! I'm getting ready to reserve a 2-bedroom at OKW for the end of October and was wondering if anyone had a suggestion for a location I should request...

Thanks!

That depends on what you like. We have stayed at OKW so many times, I can't count them anymore. Each area has it's special perk. I usually just request non-smoking and let chance take over from there. The views are basically golf course, water and some woods. There are great views from most OKW buildings, but I like buildings 45, 46, amd 55 best for water views. For woods & golf, I like buildings 12-14. I think the best golf view is from building 22 around the Miller's road area up to and including building 62. Requesting a specific building is not only futile, but could result in disappointment. I would instead list the things most important to you....i.e. smoking preference, proximaty to a pool/hot tub area, proximaty to the lobby or main pool, and view. We never worry too much about location, since all buses stop at the lobby (hospitality house) just before leaving the resort. That makes getting there from any part of the resort just as easy as staying "up front".

We prefer a room near one of the quiet pools. South rd and Miller's rood have great pool areas. Turtle Pond tends to be a little busier with the snack
availability. Bus service is great at all locations.

keep in mind that South and Miller's are both a good distance away from the main pool/building area.

Have fun

Thanks! I ended up requesting nonsmoking w/golf course view. :)

We love building 14, it's close to the HH.

All locations are good with only a short walk to a pool or bus stop.

We have stayed in Bldg 14 and Bldg 55. Bldg 14 is across from the HH. Great for catching the bus. Our last stay was bldg 55. It was great as it is at the end of the property neat SSR and the golf course. Really quiet.

I hope you enjoy your stay.

Is there any location in OKW where you don't have to stop at a ton of bus stops? Like if you were in one of the buildings right by the Hospitality House could you just always get on and off the bus there and there would only be one stop? I just remember spending so much time on the bus inside the resort last time we stayed at OKW.

We have stayed in buildings 23 and 25 and what worked best to avoid long bus time was to walk over to the HH and get on the bus as it was the last stop in the resort, and when we came home the bus usually stopped first at the stop by our buildings, if not it stopped at the HH first and we got off there. It was a very short 3-5 minute walk.

Actually, the only area to avoid if you don't want to be on the bus a few minutes longer, would be Turtle Pond. If you are staying at South Point, you are the second incoming bus stop, so, while your ride leaving is a bit longer, you will be off sooner on the return trip. Miller's Road is the second to the last bus stop, so either that or HH will get you out of the park soonest, and incoming, you can get off at Pennisular road and walk back quite easily if you have a mind to. Turtle Pond is the 3rd incoming bus stop, so will have an equal ride both directions. All the others will be shorter on one end than the other, so it evens out. For those staying near the Pennisular Road bus stop, it is quite easy to walk to HH and get on last instead of first, and then you will still be first off on the way in. For HH folks, you can do the opposite by getting off at Pennisular road and walking back. We usually play it by ear for the buses. If we are in the front of the resort and we are not too tired, we will get off at Pennisular and walk back to the room. If we are pooped, we just ride the bus around.

Bus routes -

Looking at my map and reading these posts, it looks to me like the bus stops are as follows -

1. Pennisular
2. South Point
3. Old Turtle Point
5. Millers Road
6. Hospitality House

Is this correct?

thanks

That's right!

We like the Southpoint area. There are either woods or water views from all the units, the bus stop and quiet pools are right there. It's also close ot the walking path to SSR & DTD, which we like.

We don't mind being a bit "away" from the main area. Plus, every bus stops at the main area before it leaves OKW, so if you need to get to the main area and don't want to walk, just hop any bus and get off at that last stop.

We'll be at OKW in late January - our first trip to WDW. We have 3 girls (who will be 12, 10 & 6). Any additional information about this resort - suggestions, ideas or tips would be fantastic! We have exchanged our time share for a 2-bdrm and requested non-smoking, close to main pool if possible. We're not planning to rent a car.
Any tips of grocery shopping (where and how without a car..);
how easy is it to get from place to place on the bus system?
About how much time should we allow?
About how long does it take to get from OKW to Downtown Disney?
What kinds of things does the on-site conveneince store carry?
Can you visit or use any of the other resort facilities? If so, what other resorts should we try to see?

Thanks for helping the newbie.

OKW is a large resort. In January, I'm not so sure being near the main pool is a big concern, since you may or may not have temps above 60.

The bus service at OKW is fantastic, and there really is no car needed. Magic Kingdom is about 10 minutes away. Epcot and MGM will take less time, and Animal kingdom will take about a half hour because those buses stop at Blizzard Beach also.

There are 5 bus stops within the resort and 4 pools/hot tubs/playgrounds. Even if you don't end up near the main pool, you will be near a pool and hot tub, and if you still think you need to be at the main pool, ANY bus will stop there as it's last stop before leaving the resort. You can always walk too(usually a 5-12 minute walk from any where in the resort).

OKW is very near DTD, and you can either take the bus a boat, or walk. The walking path (for daytime use only) takes about 15 minutes, and the boat runs hourly.
