OKW rental on E-bay

Wow! That is interesting that the reserve was so low, that will be a really great deal for someone. The guy must be really desperate for cash. Maybe he had the week booked and then couldn't go and the timing was so that he would lose the points if he cancelled. We are going to be there the exact same time frame, it would be cheaper for me to buy at that price than to use my points. It will be interesting to see what price this auction closes for.

I noticed that the seller has only one feedback and it was for a transaction in which he/she was the buyer.

Also enjoyed the comment that the 2 bedroom OKW unit comfortably sleeps 6. I happen to strongly agree, but probably not for the same reasons, LOL. Seller probably was thinking 2 in the Master, 2 in the other bedroom and 2 in the living room (for privacy reasons). I prefer to have the living room/kitchen area free for those who stay up late or get up early, so there would be 4 in the other bedroom, (especially if some of them were children). :teeth:

sounds like a II exchange to me - most of the 2-bedrooms in II only sleep 6 - not 8 and if he is not a DVC member he may not be aware that a 2-room DVC can sleep 8.

And the last 2 bids were from the same bidder! Someone is bidding against themselves??

If you click on view this sellers other items, this person has the same week at OKW for a 2BR listed in a second auction. Did they have 2 - 2BR's reserved and need to cancel/whatever, or is does this seller not know how to work E-bay and accidentally listed it twice? The price on the 2nd auction is up to $610 - reserve not yet met and 2 bids so far. Hmmm.....

That would be really awful if they weren't and you bid for and won the auction only to show up for your vacation and find out that they didn't pay their dues and the ressie was cancelled or you had to pay their dues before you could complete check-in!

Can't happen. What that indicates is that the earlier bidder had a higher "top price" and when the other person bid, the system automatically reinstated the intial bidder at a higher price. If you don't "ebay" regularly, this may be confusing.

Basically, the idea is you put in your top price, but the bid only goes up as high as it needs and is then posted as top bid (assuming nobody else has a higher top price than you). If someone then places a bid that is higher than the posted bid, but lower than your top price, it bumps your bid up to beat it. The log will then list two bids by you in a row. The idea is to place that top price and leave it, but most people don't. They end up going back and adjusting it if they get outbid, so it's not quite as automated as it is meant to be.

I just recieved a reply from the seller, he says:

"Regarding the prices, I am a DVC member , so my cost per unit is very low."

Lower than the dues?!

I'm sure he expects it to go for quite a bit more than the current high bid. The current bid is only about $100 less than the cost of dues and the auction goes until February 3. I'll be very surprised if he doesn't at least cover dues and ebay fees.

It's not surprising it's so low right now -- savvy ebayers will wait until the last possible moment to place their bids.

Watch the last 15 minutes of this auction and you'll probably see some fast and furious bidding.

They both went for $1725.00. That comes out to $5.82 pp. Not a bad deal. But why would the member do it?

I'd guess that over July 4th they thought it would reach a higher price. Plus if you're in a "use em or lose em" situation with your points it's $1700 they wouldn't have got. I must admit I think there are other ways to make a better return, but that's the way auctions can go.
