okw - pool slide - vote

okay here is the poll

I saw this post before I saw the one saying that OKW announced that they were putting in a slide. I didn't realize it was already a done deal. My feelings are mixed. I think it was inevitable that they'd have a slide I just hope that it is done as part of a re-do of the pool, not just "stuck on". At the GF, they built a new pool to accomodate the slide. As I said on the other post, it may work out great to have one pool for the kids who want a slide, DJ and generally a pool geared to kids while freeing up Turtle Pond somewhat for smaller kids and folks who want to unwind.

I would like to vote, but my choice isn't there. I really don't care one way or the other if there is a slide at the main pool. Now I do know my age, but I don't really care one way or the other about a pool slide. I have never frequented the main pool anyway! We only do the quiet pools.

Would you be able to add a category - Would be o'kay with or without a pool slide addition? Or are you maxed out with the poll categories?

I think some people might not vote because they are not as opinionated one way or the other about the issue.

I don't think I can change it now - what I should have done is to do away with the first under 20 and put no opinion just what to see the poll which I generally do at the end.

I added the first choice because some younger members had say that they couldn't vote - but I really don't think that under 20 years are members?

I don't think age has anything to do with it. When we purchased almost 11 years ago there was no slide. I knew that when I joined. DVC asked the owner if they wanted a slide a few years back, and the majority said no. Now they just do it... Why did they waste our time and dues money asking if they are going to do something against the vest majority of the owners?

Get ready for a big increase in dues, accident related legal actions and noise.

A sad day for DVC. It didn't take long for the new manager of DVC to go against the owners opinions. I just can't wait to see what will be next.

Absolute nonsense. A 5+ year old survey doesn't necessarily represent the vast majority of members views today.

But I do think some posters have a point that this is probably a step toward the ellimination of pool hopping.

I think it's a great step, and It might also help increase the demand for OKW reservations from OKW owners staying at thier own resort, and other DVC owners wanting to try out OKW.

I don't think it's ever been proven that OKW members are not using their resort due to the lack of slide. Or, for that matter, that OKW members aren't using their resort. In fact, maybe the anti-slide crowd will have one less reason to stay at OKW now and feel more free to explore all the other slide inclusive options open to every member of DVC.

Perhaps your right. A pool slide is just one amenity, and obviously won't make a huge difference if there is difference in demand (please note the "if"). I still think it's a nice addition for OKW that is helpful for many.

I'm just glad to see older OKW get an additional amenity improvement (given it was such a "taboo subject" for some odd reason in the other thread), and glad to see an indication overall of DVC adding resort amenities. Unfortunately it is probably a first step toward eliminating pool hopping.

Personally, I enjoy the pool slide with my kids.

I agree, Pam. Actually, it wont make much difference to me. I never frequent the main pool anyway, other than to walk around the area, or glance at it as we take the ferry to DTD.

This is so funny since a while back I suggested that age may be a factor in how people felt about this issue and I was roasted and flamed...it is nice to see that with a little more age under their belts some posters have found some degree of reasonableness and maturity as well.

Just voted yes.

Although we don't really use any pool slides right now, I could see us using it sometime in the future when the kids are older.

While I would have been prefectly fine if DVC never added a pool slide at OKW, I think that it is just GREAT that DVC is constantly looking to improve and maintain the attractiveness of the resorts.

It just proves to me that DVC is in good hands for the next 38 to 50 years and will look as good if not better at the end as it did in the beginning!!!

You are right, but why didn't DVC do another survey before they decided unilaterally to change the main pool area without consulting the other 97% owners of the property (at least until 2042). I voted no. We bought into the DVC without a slide and have never missed it there. Sure it's great for the kids (of which I have two) but I am sure this will bring up the dues to levels close to the other properties now. That is not something I would have voted for personally. It just would have been nice for DVC to consult the membership population in my opinion.

I think I'm an "older" member using both qualifications. I've owned at OKW for over 6 years and I am over 40 .

I voted "yes" because my 4 year old DD loves pool slides. The lack of a pool slide was the biggest drawback I saw in the future when staying at OKW. I know she will miss having a slide in a couple of weeks, but staying in a Grand Villa over NYE trumped having a slide . OKW is the only non-value resort without a slide and I'm glad to see the improvement!

Actually, I tend to think that if DVC retook the survey, the results would have been pretty much the same as they were 5 years ago.

My reasoning? OKW was sold out then, so it would mostly be the same people voting as last time. There's been some turnover, but percentage-wise it's a drop in the bucket. And unless those new owners bought OKW with their eyes closed, it's reasonable to assume that they like OKW. So most of them would probably vote to leave it alone.

And if you buy into the theory that OKW owners are grouchy old timers, the owners are 5 years older, and 5 years grouchier than the last survey.

Well, ancient surveys are moot now. With more than one report coming out, looks like this is a done deal.

Looks like the poll results and posts are showing strong approval for this new addition. Nice to see.

To those citing a old survey, for all we know, DVC may very well have conducted another survey by the statistically significant sampling method and found strong support for a pool slide. Just because they didn't individually call us up doesn't mean another survey didn't happen. They may have included non-OKW DVC owners and factored thier views into the decision as well. Disney is very survey savey.
