My question concerns chances with obtaining a GV at OKW 7 months out, but not during holiday season (looking at Jan 2-6 2005)....I plan to make reservations at my home--SSR--at 11 months window, but would love to switch to OKW at 7 months..anyone had any luck with this?? We are going (11 total) anyway, but just curious in anyone has been in this situation....Thanks-Shannon

January and September are your two best shots for booking OKW GVs. I was able to re-arrange a vacation by a week in January with plenty of availability like five months out.

Food and wine festival time, first two weeks of December and holiday weeks are the most difficult to book, I would certainly not count on getting any of these times at seven months. I have called at 10:00 am at eleven months and been shut out during each of these periods. I moved a vacation ahead a week once and suffessfully used the waitlist the other times....but that is the waitlist right at eleven months.

SSR does have grand villas, but the point requirements even in January are well beyond what I will have banking and borrowing!!

Another vote then for owning OKW if you think GV is in your future! Why are the points at OKW so much less than SSR? The location is not significantly different.

Grand Villas will only be in our future every 3 or 4 years....normally we do not need that much space! As for the difference in points--I don't know--the GV point amount for OKW is really low.....the guy we talked with at DVC was really pushing the OKW gv concept--that they had been redone, etc....maybe because there are so many more there than at the other resorts?? I know BWV only has something like 12.....our guy kept talking about the fact that "even though" OKW is the oldest/first resort it is really nice in terms of space and everything..we were discussing the concept of an extended family vacation and the fact that we might not be guaranteed a GV at our home resort...he really pushed the OKW alternative...not sure-anyone have any insight? Personally I love the SSR location for short trips with just my husband and I......we will see in re trips with the whole crew (5 total)...

I think it has to do with the original development and supply and demand. When the points were initially setup for OKW DVC was brand new and it was a better deal for the people buying there. To change the points now would require lowering the points for another size unit. I believe all of OKW's point values are much lower but that is what the early buyers got for taking a chance I guess.

We are BWV owners and have twice enjoyed a Grand Villa at OKW. The first time was for the first week in December 2001, and were on a waitlist until about 35 days before. The second time was the second week in March of this year and had no difficulty at 7 months. You never know. You might get lucky.

Total GV's at DVC resorts...........

OKW-27 GV's
BWV-7 GV's
VB-6 Beach Cottages
HH-5 GV's
SSR-?

I think SSR will have 1 GV in each of the 12 buildings, so a total of 12.

We are looking at going for the 4th of July next year and when I called on Friday, they had grand villas open for the whole month.
