Okay NBC . .

Cupping is something our football coach would do to make sure we had on our, uh... protective device. And it did if you didn't! :)

I think we've seen enough of the suction cup stuff.

No need to drive every little story into the ground.

That is all.

NBC says you can blame women.

“The people who watch the Olympics are not particularly sports fans. More women watch the Games than men, and for the women, they’re less interested in the result and more interested in the journey. It’s sort of like the ultimate reality show and mini-series wrapped into one. And to tell the truth, it has been the complaint of a few sports writers. It has not been the complaint of the vast viewing public.”... John Miller.

They can't handle sports you see. So NBC has to give em Gym Moms and Cupping Dynasty and Real Coach's/husbands of the Olympics.

Where do these TV executives get it? Do they go to school to learn how to patronize? Or is it a God given gift?

Hey everyone, look at Shane Tusup. He really put a lot of work into this. Congratulations to him.... Oh and his wife, ole what's her name, helped out just a little bit by uh winning the actual medal. But look at his well deserved celebration.

Maybe I just don't hang with the in crowd when it comes to women because I don't know a single one that likes to be patronized.

Speaking of amusing, I find it amusing that NBC thinks they know what viewers want. I've heard nothing but complaints about their coverage, since they won the contract.

I'm a female who loves the Olympics, but I'm also a sports fan. I despise reality tv. It's hard to imagine there's that big of an overlap of Olympic & reality tv viewers, but what do I know? All I can say is I'm so glad we now have DVRs. I've recorded all of the coverage, so I can skip the personal stories & the commercials, of course. I was wondering what caused the dark circles on the athletes. That tells you how much of the personal stories I've seen.

Amen to that.
This woman has been almost exclusively watching the event specific online streams precisely to avoid that melodrama.

Again, I think people are spoiled. Back when ABC had the contract, you were forced to watch whatever they had on a single channel. You took what they gave you and liked it. Now, EVERY event is available LIVE to everyone (via streaming), but it's still not enough. You can't please 100% of the people 100% of the time. Case in point...

Earlier on the thread, people complained about NBC "harping" on the cupping. Sure, if you've been watching for hours on end, you know what it is. But if you're just tuning in that night, you have no idea.

Fair points.

My complaint about the coverage is it's annoying to find when stuff is on. I don't mind things be spread out on a few different channels but how about a simple basic guide I can switch to and see what's on and when.
I just wanted to know when freestyle dressage is on so I can watch those cute horses dance to music. I had to go to the website, find equestrian and then go through each day to find it and I still don't know which channel it's be on. ..Ugh, where's that peach schnapps?

I haven't learned much from occasionally watching Real Housewives episodes, but I did learn about cupping. See, even trash TV has it's redeeming qualities.

Actually, I have been watching for hours on end. I'm just skipping the personal stories, studio interviews, etc., so I didn't hear what was causing the bruises. It works great for me. I can see why people who aren't able to record the events would be annoyed by all the personal stories though, especially when they keep repeating them. Those who have tuned in from the beginning should have to hear the same stories nightly, just so someone tuning in for the first time can hear it. Less personal stories would also free up more TV time for competition.

I don't mind a little reality TV, but I don't want it mixed with sports. Ever.
I've used the DVR combined with changing the channel when the music starts for another repeated back story.

Well, streaming is only available to those who are paying for a cable or satellite subscription, so yeah I think those who depend on the (free) main NBC channel for their Olympic coverage do have a right to complain. I'm glad I'm not one of them, but I understand what they're talking about. I'm so sick of seeing nothing but swimming on the prime time coverage I could spit. And all of the time wasted watching them stretch and dance around and adjust their goggles, swim caps, and suits is ridiculous when they could be using that time to show some of the other 50 some odd sports that happened during the day. I mean, it's not like it's live and we have to wait for the race to start. :headache:

Human interest stories are another time waster. Look, I don't mind learning a little bit about the athletes, but you don't need to make these long, dramatic mini documentaries about everyone's "journey". Just show the competition, dangit!!
