Is croquet an Olympic sport? Guess I'll have to wait for Olympic badminton.
Did you miss ping pong?

And, as with most generalizations, not necessarily true. I'm a woman, and I like to watch the Olympics. The actual athletic events, the back story I can do without. And, I'm certainly less than interested in the whole cupping thing (including the demonstrations of how it works). It's just weird to me.Unfortunately, the NBC executive is probably correct about the majority of female Olympics viewers. Still, he shouldn't have issued such a condescending and patronizing statement. Just say something like "research shows most viewers enjoy the features and back stories of the athletes."
Way to throw a spoiler in there. I didn't know they won until I read your post. It's not exactly hard to not find out results until the broadcast. Unless people read posts like yours.Idiots at NBC holding to exactly what one of their executives described which is packaging the Olympics like a romance novel since most viewers are women who aren't as interested in the results as much as the "journey". They kept the gymnastics off of all of their 6 or 7 channels today thinking it'll force people to tune into their prime time broadcast. Now that everyone knows they've won the gold, there's no point.

So which sports do you wish they had in the Olympics that aren't? Here's a few former sports to give you inspiration. Of course, who can forget ski ballet, horse long jump or dueling pistols?

Lacrosse. Roller speedskating and roller hockey.
From what I understood, swimming from Bejing in 2008 was shown live in prime time on the US East coast. NBC apparently twisted the IOC's arm to schedule it at 8am Bejing time the following morning.

I read yesterday that NBC unsuccessfully lobbied Brazil to do the Parade of Nations using the English alphabet instead of Portuguese, because they were upset that "Estados Unidos" comes so early in the alphabet and would hurt their ratings. I can not imagine having the gall to make that kind of suggestion.
Yes, I heard that too. And apparently NBC's fears were well founded; ratings slipped significantly after the US team entered the stadium. But good for the IOC for rejecting NBC's request.
I liked that they used Portuguese spellings of the countries' names. Germany also came very early because it's Alemanha. Kenya starts with a Q in Portuguese. Several others were "out of place" as well.
I don't remember how they managed the order in Beijing.
Wonderful news last week, they voted Softball (along with some other sports) in for 2020.Softball.

NBC found out the crooks at the IOC can't be bought for 1.23 billion
