We are pretty Disney savvy, but admit that we know NOTHING about the Grosvenor.
Soooooo -- when our 18-year-old son booked a trip thru Orbitz with his high school buddies at a really good price at Grosvenor, we started doing some quick research and saw some AWFUL reviews.
So, we come back to our favorite place (outside of Disney) -- the Disney Chat Boards!
So -- how bad is it?! Please be painfully honest -- and keep in mind we're talking about 4, 18-year-olds sharing a room -- good kids -- not geeks -- football players -- but not reckless party animals, either. Very good friends trying to re-live one final childhood moment before they all separate to college.
Thanks, as always.

I know I rent my rental cars from there and it doesn't look that bad. I thought they were doing some refurbing but not sure.

It's real close (the closest) to the DTD bus stop.

Check the dates on the reviews to see if they are current.

If you book the tower, it is actually a decent hotel in my opinion. We stayed there two nights a few years ago and found it to be a good deal. Again that was in the tower, I'm not sure about the rooms in the wings. Compared to some of the dives in and around Orlando/Kissimmee, Grosvenor is nice.

Check it on Trip Advisor. I have stayed there several times in the past on Priceline and you couldn't pay me to go back - no matter what they did to it. A lot of people are complaining about managment problems too.

When I worked at DRC in 2001, I was told that was the one DD hotel that was most complained about.

I like the Hilton a lot. The HRP was very nice before renovations, it sounds like it is even better now.

for 4 teenagers it is fine i guess but...I WILL NEVER STAY THERE AGAIN...it was gross,it made us remember why we stay at wdw resorts, i will stay with thhe mouse from now on.

I am completely with you on this one. We booked the Grosvernor once when we made a very spur of the moment and there was no availibility at any of the moderates (this was before we had ever considered staying at a deluxe) and I will never stay there again. I'll rent a camper or pitch a tent at Ft. Wilderness before I stay there again.

Our room was disgusting, the bottom of our socks turned black just from walking around the room, it had a musty smell to it, the service was less than good - I think we stood at the front desk smiling at the check-in person for at least ten minutes before she got off of her personal phone call to acknowledge us, and I just felt dirty while there. I'll stay at the Doubletree just outside of DDT anyday but the Gross-venor... no thank you.

we stayed at the Grovesnor in March 06- We were very worried because we has read terrible reviews. We had a VERY pleasant stay at the Grovesnor- from beginning to end. We stayed in a Tower Room that overlooked DTD- the view was amazing- the staff constantly were cleaning and shining things up around this hotel- the staff also were VERY nice- our room was immaculate-
We have since bought into DVC, but would not hesitate to stay here again

We were there a couple of weeks ago.

I won't lie to you, it's not the most delightful hotel on the planet, it's old, a bit worn and the rooms look straight out of a 70's tv show, but our room was clean, we didn't see anything crawling around. The beds weren't the comfiest, either, but the location made up for most of the ick. Service was a little indifferent- the maid decided we didn't need clean towels and took all the dirty ones and didn't replace them, but that was the only issue, and easily solved.

I would stay there again if onsite was unavailable (which is why we ended up there, it was a "mystery hotel special" on Book It.com), but I would definitely try to upgrade to one of the tower rooms.

Four energetic teens should have no problem staying there. If the kids have done any time at summer camp or a youth hostel, they won't be bothered a bit. Frankly, I stayed at youth hostels much nastier than the Grosvenor in my student travel days, fwiw.

We get a little spoiled by how nice some of the offsite villas are, and how fun the Disney hotels are, I think. I know I do, but at the end of the day, if it has a bed, is reasonably clean, and has a bathroom, it's good enough for me. :rotfl:

We stayed their last year for 1 night and while it was very outdated it wasn't that horrible. Funny thing is that my socks turned black from walking around OKW which is a DVC resort. Unless the teen-aged boys are clean freaks I really don't think they will care much if they are going to spend all of their time outside of the room. We paid $49 for the 1 night and you know what they say about you get what you paid for.

We had a pleasant 2 week stay at the Grosvenor 2 years ago. We arrived at dinner time and got dinner at the hotel, which was good (a nice buffet!). The staff were lovely with us. We didn't have a tower room, but our room was still nice.
