I wonder how many people have experienced free upgrades and how often it actually happens? How far in advance would you know about the room change?

We've gotten upgrades. We tend to book GTY/*GT recently. And, most of the time, we've gotten little "upgrades". For example we usually book a 9C GTY and most of the time we get a 9B or 9A. Once we had a 7A GTY and got a 4A - that was a big one.

No way of knowing when/if DCL is going to pixie dust an upgrade on you.

Once our room is assigned I've seen it online. That can happen at any time. One time we didn't know our room number until we checked in at the port.

But this is only for GTY rooms right. Our room is not a GTY room, so is there still a chance of some pixie dusting?

Even if you have already selected a room, you could get pixie dusted with an upgrade. I don't think that happens as often as when the booking is a GTY or *GT, but it can happen.

We have to sometimes add to our reservation a note to "not upgrade" as we like our cabin selection and dont want it changed.
