Thanks to the meds suppressing my immune system, I now have THRUSH. ICK!!! Calling dr. Anyone have to deal with this? How do they get rid of it??

I know when my neice had it, the doc just prescribed some medicine that she had to take. It took care of it.

My kids had it. The dr. put some kind of purple stuff on their tongue. I can't remember the name of it. The bottle looked like an iodine bottle. I can't remember them having to take anything else for it.

I believe the medication is called Gentian Violet..... the spelling may be wrong.... Megan took it almost 13 years ago. We laughed so hard because she was 3 months old but looked like she had been eating blueberry pie! Good luck getting rid of it!

the purple stuff is GENTIAN VIOLET... The medicine most commonly used now is either DIFLUCAN or NYSTATIN... they both work well.... Good luck...

Now they have you swish nystatin solution in your mouth.

I got this last summer, I was put on a new inhaler for my asthma and got it, got rid of it, got it back and stopped that inhaler.

It will take a week or so to go away.

Diflucan works well.

I've taken Diflucan and it worked quickly. I've also used the Nystatin and it worked fairly quickly too. At least it took care of the discomfort. Good luck with this.

DS had it when he was realllllly young... they gave him medicine and it went away but it wasn't the violet stuff.

If you don't want to take more prescription meds you could try gargling withe a "Tea Tree" mouthwash, or a vinegar solution several times a day.

Go with Nystatin - Gentian Violet has been loosely associated with oral cancer.

I had it from one end to the other from strong meds and had to take diflucan for 7 days I had it for 3 weeks because he kept giving me magic mouthwash and it did not reach my gi tract. Hope you get better soon

Rather than using meds to counteract meds, try the natural remedy and use Live yoghourt - it re-introduces the natural bacteria that have been killed off by meds and they do no harm to you.

Not gross at all...when I first heard about yogurt I wasn't sure where to put it and had to ask so it is good you pointed that out.

Okay - I'm admit this - it's really disgusting!

I've had it too and tried all of the above. They even made me take an aids test because it was so persistant. One of my son's had it so bad as an infant they finally told me to stick part of a clortrimazole tablet in a nipple and get him to suck on it. (yes, the v*****l inserts! - yes it even says not to take by mouth on the box) It worked so quickly. Ever since then if I get it I crush a tablet and rub a small portion of it on my tongue. Works like a charm.

Also - cut sugar out of your diet while you have thrush - it really aggravates it.
