staying as SSR next week. Are our chances of getting some of our room requests increased the earlier we get there? thanks!

They usually don't. Rooms are assigned at check-in. It's a system called "room ready", they look for a room that is ready when you arrive that meets at least one of your requests.

This is not true although I wish it was. Room ready is seldom used. Our last stay at BCV rooms where assigned. Our stay before that our room was assigned at SSR. Room ready is the best way to go. No more requests should be taken, period, with the exception of HA & NS. Check in CM's should offer what is available at that time and let the guest choose. This would give people the perception that they had a say in the room they got. It would also get people into a room then and avoid the annoying wait. Also guests stating that they will wait for a specific request or room would be out of luck also. All they could do is check back later and see what is available then. This is how the system should work and it should be used accross the board. NO MORE REQUESTS, LETS ALL PUSH FOR ROOM READY. Think about all the angry posts that would be eliminated on this board. No more posts about not getting a request met!!!! :goodvibes To the OP, arriving early, in theory, shouldn't help. If they are assigning then your room is pre- assigned. If it is room ready then you could only choose what is in inventory when you check in. Now theories don't always hold true so good luck. In short all CM's should tow the line on this. Don't let angry DVC members push into getting a room switched or moved. Go room ready and only offer what is available. I strongly feel a standard practice would eliminate a lot of unhappy guests.

Unfortunately, Room Ready doesn't work well when you arrive late in the day - they may only have one or two rooms still left that are available.

Not certain I would like the room ready, but haven't been to OKW for a couple of years now (two trips planned in 2006 though), so haven't experienced it.

Dave that would be fine. but some of us have allergies. OKW is going to completely non-smoking but it is not there yet.

until then I want my non-smoking room.

when I travel with my mother, who is 83, I need a wheelchair - so I request first floor. we once got a handicapped room - mother complainted the whole week about how high the toliet was. Of course most of the time she is complainting about how low the toliet is.....

to ask mother could who bearly walk to walk up the steps would be cruel.

not to mention me trying to carry a wheelchair up those steps.

there are plenty of other reason besides HP to make request.

Since the OP was talking about SSR, this is exactly what happened when we checked in last month.

Now, whether or not that is a resort policy, or just a helpful CM, I don't know....

Supposedly, OKW uses the "room ready" policy, but my room was clearly pre-assigned when I checked in early in the day last month.

IMHO, it is unfortunately true that arriving earlier can improve the odds of getting the requests you are looking for.

Daitcher...I disagree with you wholeheartedly on "room ready" as a good policy. I think they should apply the requests placed at the time the reservation is made, in the date order they are made (earliest reservations get first dibs). Unfortunately, far too many DVCers have shown up early and raised a ruckus when their requests were not met...thus the "room ready" policy, which I believe is really intended to help out the poor front desk CM's.

ez....If your requests are important to you, I think you are better off getting to the check in early vs later. Just my observation.

Agree with Granny.

Best wishes -

When you say get there early. What would be early 1:00 or even before that?

You can check in pretty much as early as you want. The earliest I've checked in is 10:15 in the morning. Just realize that no matter what time you check in, you should anticipate your room not being ready until after 4:00 p.m.

The early check-in can lock you into a room, but it doesn't necessarily mean it will be ready then. From my check-in experience last month, it seems like "room ready" policy is applied only when requested. In other words, the CM told me that she had assigned me to a room, but if I wanted to get into a room earlier she would see what was available.

I'm now so confused as to what's the "best" time to check in. The time I got all my requests met best was when I checked in at 7:45 at night. However, at the same DVC (BCV), I saw someone who'd checked in around 6:00 the next night and was told he got the last room available-a smoking room when he'd requested non-smoking. And one time, I checked in at 1:00, said that I wouldn't take a HA room and got one anyways. So I'm not sure if there's a "best" time anymore!

Simba's Mom - I think you got luck.

I have checked in late before and I generally ended up with no view and a handicapped room.

so now I stay someplace else and check into DVC early the following morning.

been pretty happy.

OKW seems to use it own system. As has been pointed out - it varies - widely.

but since the person is checking into SSR - I got a wonderful room when I check in at 10:00am. Great view of DD!!! I would definitely try to get their early. the cm checking in say that early check in got the better rooms.

I made no request that time. Mother was not with me.

Our room at OKW in May was definitely not pre-assigned, it was room ready. The cm was searching the system to find a room. I had requested non-smoking, first floor, water view. At first she said building 15 with a fairway view, I asked if any water views were available, she keeping looking and found 37, which was perfect, both a water and golf view.

Hi,

We just returned from SSR. The only request we made was NS-medical reasons. When we checked in around 12ish we asked if we could be in the Springs Section and the CM informed us that our room were pre-assigned. She offered to look in the Springs section for availability, we opted for the pre-assigned Congress Park room with a DTD view.
