I did my first t shirt the other week and was really pleased with it. I found it so much easier to just print the design onto a sheet of paper and iron it on, so much better than the glue style stuff I'd used before.

Trouble is, the instructions for the paper I used said that it could be machine washed so of course I turned it inside out, popped it into the washer on a cool wash and guest what....the design is peeling off in great chunks. I had washed the T before I put the design on so I can't think what went wrong. Perhaps despite the instructions [destructions???] it should not have gone in the machine even on a delicates wash.

One thing I did observe was that the design had a rather 'papery' feel to it and I wasn't sure if it was supposed to be like this or not. However so that I don't make the same mistake again can I ask for suggestions as to what I may have done wrong?

There are some transfers that just are not good quality, it may have been that or maybe that you didn't get it hot enough.

I get all my transfers from Amy, she's a DISigner here on the board. They are amazing transfers and months after making our shirts, we are still wearing them! You can get Amy's transfers at amymickey.com

I have tried lots of transfer papers...HP, Avery and generic brands from Walmart, Hobby Lobby and Michaels and suggest using Amy Mickey's as I had the best results from hers.

There is a thread for making t-shirts that gives lots of hints like prewashing the t-shirt and not using fabric softeners, etc. But if you get Amy's she sends directions for everything you need to know. The only problem I had with hers was getting the iron too hot with red t-shirts.

How long did you wait to wash the shirt? I believe that with the more common transfers, you are supposed to wait a day or two before washing.:confused3

I waited ages to wash it - I only wore it the once because I was so bothered I would spoil it.

I'll try another brand of paper and see if I have any more success.

Thanks all

I messed up two shirts! But I completed 10 others successfully!!:cool1:

Can I do anything with the messed up shirts? Can I iron a darker different image over top??
:confused3
