Do you have to wait for them to arrive before you will be served?

I am punctual, and don't believe in penalizing people who follow the rules by making them wait for those who don't.

Jim

In my experience, they will only wait 5 minutes or so. However, it is probably a good idea to let your tablemates or wait staff know if you'll be eating at Palo the next night so they don't wait for you.

I remember one night we were eating our appetizers before two of our tablemates showed up.

on what your defination of punctual is...:wave2:

I would think that most peoples would have the decency and be courteous enough to be on time...Especially something like this...

However, there is one bad apple in every bunch...

I personally wouldnt wait upon the folks if they are late...I would read my menu and when I make my mind up as to what to order...I would order.....That is sufficient time ...

Good luck with your table guests...:teeth:

And, btw- I am very punctual also. I dispise late people:earseek:

I'd think that if after 5 min or so your tablemates hadn't appeared, you simply could ask your server to begin. I haven't cruised yet, so I don't know that for sure, but it seems the logical approach! We aim to be on time, but with 2 young boys unexpected delays do occur; it's not a matter of bad manners, just real life. If that happened, I'd hate also to be stressing about others at the table twiddling their thumbs waiting for us to arrive.

The first night or two, we waited. The other family was consistantly about 30 minutes late each evening. We started just ordering when the server was ready for us to order. They usually arrived along with the appetizers and we just all went from there.

I think the five minute rule is quite workable. This allows for elevator delays, etc.

I have a SIL who is never less than 45 minutes late and was once THREE DAYS late. Yes, three days. (Wife's parents were here for two days, she was "coming, just had a few errands to run, and ended up showing up the day after they left). She lives 10 minutes away.

Thanks.

I was afraid the server would wait to take the orders until everyone was present. Sounds like this is NOT the case.

Jim

We are 2 adults, 3 kids (8, 6, 3). What can we expect to be sitting at table-wise?

Since this is Disney, people start lining up well before seating time. If you happen to be near the front of the line, the people in the back of the line may not make it into the dinning room for a good 10 minutes (since they try to escort each family to their table).

We try to arrive at the restaurants near/shortly before seating time and we seem to always be at the back of the line.

Like someone else said before - real life happens and the lifts are small and slow. Someone has said that they are just for looks:D

And as an American we see it as a right to ride the elevators for even one floor, because walking down one or two flights of stairs is just to much work (even though it gets you to your destination 15 minutes quicker - ok off my soap box).

MarkLem: With five you might find yourself at a table for six, but more likely at a table for 8 (possible for a table of 10 too). DCL doesn't guarantee anything when it comes to making requests for dinning rotations, times or table size. You can ask if you have a preference, but its mostly the luck of the draw.

Jim, that's the funniest story I've ever heard! :p

If it wasn't so sad, I'd find it hilarious too.

She was late:

To her own wedding

To our child's baptism

to her grandmother's 100th birthday (even though she lived closest, and people coming from other states were on time).

Every meal we've ever had.

:( :(

And I'm talking HOURS late.

We have pools as to how late she will be at events. The next day is not out of the question

It must make for great family conversations, though! There's always one bad apple......we have one in our family, too!

Don't wait too long Jim. On our first cruise it was just my DW and I, so we were at a table for 10 w/other couples. One of the couples were newlyweds and no one at our table saw them until Tuesday  . We left Miami on Saturday :earseek:

Jim -
We just sailed on the Halloween cruise and were at a table for 14. (We are a family of 4) Each night, the server would take our order shortly after we sat down. Most nights we all got there relatively the same time so it wasn't a problem. On the night that we were in Cozumel we were late getting back from an excursion so we ended up being about 15 minutes late for dinner. The rest of our table had already ordered. Our server just took our order right away. Sometimes being late is out of your control. Just gotta roll with the punches!

I bet she gets her fair share of family jokes but it is truly sad. Look at all she misses, I wonder why she puts herself in that situation.

That is so funny Jim...I have a sister who is exactly the same way. I thought there couldn't possibly be anyone on earth like her but I guess there is. Maybe they're long-lost twins. ;) Sometimes my sister calls to say she's on her way out the door and never even shows up...we've all learned to go on without her. :)
