We just moved into a new house in a new development...For what we paid for a house, we expected the neighborhood and the residents to be a little more refined than the rest of Memphis...

Boy, was I wrong! The developer has decided to RENT several of the houses on our end, and some real winners have moved in...The house across the street has two adults and five children in a 4 bedroom house, the house catty-corner has three adults and four personal cars and a work van, which they park on the street.

Last night the people at the end of the cove shot fireworks until 12:30am, (which is illegal in our area) and tonight they just started up again. The only problem is that my husband goes to bed at 6pm, and gets up at 1:30...so I just went and asked them to stop...so I am now the mean old white ***** that lives on the corner, or so I heard...

Plus, they are shooting them again...Should I call the sherriff's dept?

Yes I would call...now they are just doing it to irritate you.

If one wants refined you need to come to the c/b where us people of high backgrounds tend to meet. :charac4: :jumping4: :duck: :crazy2:

Har har har...PopDaddy...What I meant is that if I wanted to hear gunpowder exploding, I would have moved to Frayser or South Memphis...

Or did you mean HIGH backgrounds?!?:drinking1

I don't think the price of the neighborhood has much to do with fireworks being shot off, they are everywhere :)

If you call the police and complain now they will know for sure who did it.

If you are not worried about any negative side effects from calling the police, do it.

This is a tough one to decide on.

Can you make some kind of background noise like a fan etc so that your husband can sleep?

ITA, the richer the neighborhood the better the fireworks. LOL

 What is wrong with that? You mean the children actually have to share rooms? Oh, the humanity.

Ok, what struck me from this post wasn't the fireworks -- which, I agree with the OP, is a serious issue. she is justifiably annoyed.

It's that her neighbors used an apparent racial slur to describe her. And that her description of the renters implies a racial/socioeconomic slur. I think there's a lot more going on here than just fireworks.

Whatever... when we lived in a worse part of town, there was always something going on.. somebody always had a stereo thumping, or cars parked in the yard, or people out walking around all hours of the evening. The sherriffs' department was constantly making disturbance calls. You can't tell me that nicer neighborhoods aren't quieter.

Most of the residents in this neighborhood take pride in their community, and have more respect for their neighbors than to be out shooting fireworks late at night when they know people have to work the next day. These two rental properties in particular have been trouble since the day they leased.

BTW... one family is white, the other family is black...

And PS, Rutt and whatever, the house across the street has two adult women, a mother and her sister, so yes, five teenage children are sharing two bedrooms...and one of those "bedrooms" is a study that measures about 9 X 8 that is just off to the right the top of the stairwell... they didn't finish it out as a bedroom, we went in the house to look at it while we were trying to pick our plan out...

We have 2 adults in my house and 3 vehicles. one is always parked in the street. my driveway is very narrow and houses on the street were built when even having a car was a novelty still. If hubby didn't park on the street, we'd spend half our morning moving cars.

Yeah, but we live on a corner, and they park it ACROSS the street from their house right next to my driveway, instead of in front of their own house...

We have more cars than people at my house, too, we just make sure that the one that needs out first in the morning is the last one in at night, and yes, it means moving cars before bedtime on some days...

I would have ignored it. You're going to have to be neighbors for a long time. Don't sweat the small stuff.

Starting off on the bad foot could be a move you regret for a very, very long time. I don't get a long with my neighboors-- in my opinion they are very "odd" at best. Anyhow, I pretty much tried to ignore it. Which worked well until this past winter. I complained to the police about the incessive barking from their dog which was tied up 15 feet from my house. Anyhow, things are just awful. To the point we want to move, and we've only been here 2 years. We can't even park 1 inch off our driveway (which borders their property) w/o them calling the police.

Really try to deal w/ it for a little bit, otherwise you may wind up very uncomfortable in your own home. I learned this the hard way.

I don't think that these people will be my neighbors very long...like I said, they rent. What I do know is that a lot of my neighbors have already called the developer about this one house down the street in particular. There have been a lot of parties where the sheriff's department has had to respond due to people parking all over the place, and noise complaints. So we're hoping they will get evicted and someone will buy the house.

And wanna know the weird part? The developer is renting these houses for almost $200 more per month than my mortgage payment is!

I agree. We live in a neighborhood of $500,000 and up for houses. Our backyard looked like the perimeter fireworks of Wishes last night! It seemes like every other yard had great fireworks this year. Yes, it is illegal here but everyone still does it. I bought these huge mortar oneson on one of our return trips from WDW that were professional grade. We all have a blast. No pun intended! LOL!

Exactly! We can afford the professional grade ones here. LOL!~

Better keep the sheriff on speed dial for Labor Day and NYE. I know we set off fireworks on those holidays as well. ;)

You know, Skiwee, we actually didn't have much trouble with individual houses shooting off last night...There were so many fireworks displays in town!!! It was wonderful...we went and sat on the 10th green of the Colonial country club and watched theirs on one side and Bellevue Baptists' on the other...

I can't imagine if these were the "good ones." Those things sound like cannon fire!

All right, Bojangles.. I'm inviting you over for a cookout! That way when they are still shooting them after midnight you can go hold the lighter for them! Ha ha ha!
