OK ladies, lets talk bras, anyone else hate underwire?

Underwires hurt me but I have trouble finding bras my size anyway. 38B should not be so hard to find. I want to try Spanx new Brahlelluia but it is expensive!

You know, I am starting to think Joan Crawford had the right idea about wires in general. ;)

I bet those would hurt if used as a bra! :teeth:

The IPEX sounds interesting. What is the largest size that VS carries?

I haven't heard anyone say this on this thread but my main problem with an underwire is when I sit down. The bra on the inside of my breasts ride up and leaves a ridge that shows under my clothes. I guess that means the wire is not riding on my ribcage. I try wearing a larger cup but that doesn't help either.

DD in some styles, not sure what band size, probably 40 or so.

If the wire is riding up you aren't wearing a properly fitting bra. It's not always the size, but the style that doesn't fit right.

Have to have underwires. LeMystere Tisha are very comfortable but on the expensive side. But to have the girls up where they belong for the first time in years is worth every penny!!

DisneyPHD all bras are uncomfortable to me. Every night I can wait to let the girls out. I only buy under wire because they lift you up.

I just got back form the shore & I bought My first clear strap bra. DH did not understand why this matters & everyone made fun of me for telling them this. Which is another reason I need to Dis. Now I have to get brave & buy a shirt that actually NEEDS a clear strap bra!

The brahlelluia is worth every penny. I love them. Like wearing nothing with great coverage for the girls. I also wear the Ipex underwire which are also wonderful.

Convince him of what? Go buy the bra!

Anne (Who somehow finds the notion of having to have a bra purchase approved by her DH perplexing to say the least)

ITA :thumbsup2 . I had a friend (years ago) whose husband insisted on buying the girls (2 DD's) underwear...and not in a "sicko" way BUT in more of a "controlling" way so that allot of $$ was not spent on their little girl's underwear. WHATTTTTTT...leave that job to the MOM. But his DW basically allowed DH to "walk" all over her. :confused3 The dad did this right through the DD's high school....come on now :confused3 :sad2:

Anne, some people might not have the $40-$50 to purchase one bra. If a man & woman are pinching pennies and trying to make ends meet, I can certainly see them making that kind of a financial decision TOGETHER.

It is a lot more expensive than the 10.00 ones I would typically buy

I also like the Bra-llelujah by Spanx. It really is like wearing nothing but having the coverage. I don't find 34.00 to be expensive for a bra. Now the wacoals I also wear are pricey but still worth it. I guess if something makes me feel and look good, no price is too high ;) And the d ay I have to ask permission to buy a bra, well that's the day I am gone. :thumbsup2

Seriously, today, if you want a decent bra, that will hold you in place, be comfortable, hold up wash after wash...I really think it is when you have spent $30 or more for a bra. I went on the LeMystere site and those bras are fabulous. Very nice. I am going to check out this Spanx site as well. :)

I see your point.

When DH and I lived on a very tight budget we both had certain amounts of money set aside for clothing or personal expenses that would/could be spent witout "checking" with each other, and that's why it seemed odd to me to have to consult about a bra.

You will find that a high quality bra is more expensive, but fits better, is more attractive on, wears better, and will outlast the $10 bra. In my experience, bras are something worth paying extra for, the return on the investment is well worth the initial cost. :goodvibes

BTW--I wash my IPEX's on delicate/cold in the washer and drip dry. I've been wearing them since the day they came out--what over two years now, and they still look brand new. I have yet to begin to think I need to replace even the original few I bought. :thumbsup2

Well said.

I confess I haven't read this whole thread, but the initial title caught my eye and made me laugh. I've worn underwire bras all of my adult life. I'll never forget when I was in my 20s I was sitting in a lounge at work and someone asked me if I had a pace maker. I looked at them oddly and shook my head. Then they asked if I wore a hearing aide. I said no, why. Then they pointed and I looked down. One of my underwires had worked it's way through the fabric of the bra, and a 3" piece of wire was sticking up through the neckline of my t-shirt! :rotfl2:

I didn't think it was all that odd either. :confused3 Then again now that I'm not working and attending school full time, we are pinching our pennies and doing pretty well under my budget regime (aka bills paid in full on time, savings increasing, not taking loans for school, etc.). ;) He doesn't up and spend $45-50 without me knowing either...even when we were both working full time.

It's not about asking permission per se, it's more like making sure the FUNDS are available to use in the checking account or if we should use the credit card if the deal is good enough or if we should just wait until the next paycheck to purchase it or making sure we don't already have it or etc. If I only $50 left until Friday, I'm not going to spend it on a bra nor will he spend it on his "geek stuff." I'll wait until Friday for payday to purchase it and keep the $50 around "just in case." So if you have separate accounts for you and your husband, then you probably don't need to do this.
