Ok I really dont know where to put this question but here it goes!!!!!

This has to be one of the funniest threads I've seen in a long, long time. Oh the days of my Levi 501 button-up cut-offs...

I'm too sexy for my jorts! Too sexy for my jorts! Jorts! Jorts! Don't give me no skorts!!

I'm too sexy for this thread! :woohoo:

So I guess that we should take fashion advice from the different southern states I see represented here? Um...no.

So we aren't allowed to give advice if we are from a southern state? Please tell me where that rule came from. I have older teen and twenty something daughters and I have spent a lot of time over the last year touring college campuses. I was just sharing what I have witnessed on every campus we visited and also what all of the high school girls here are wearing. They also make a lot of sense in hot, humid Florida this time of year. I can't believe that all of that is invalidated because I am from the south. Wear what you want, we won't point and laugh but, in turn, don't insult us because of where we live.

I know we were having fun at UF's expense but I thought that was in a poking fun at a fellow SEC school. The jort jokes are part of a running series of barbs between UF and GA. Kind of like "we are a better team than you are" , "oh yeah, well you wear jorts" Silly I know, but it is so common that I didn't think that it would offend. Already apologized to A Mickeyfan once but will do so again. I don't think this board should be used to level insults at each other.

Just about all you see here are denim shorts. Not cut-offs but denim shorts are worn by all ages and just about everywhere.

I guess that us Texans don't care about fashion. ;)

Minnesotans either. Just took my 14 year old shopping and pretty much all that was available was jean shorts.

I think Mickeyfan understands that.

Hmm..interesting thread. I just bought my dd some back to school clothes from her favorite store Justice(used to be Limited Too), and of course I purchased long rolled up jean shorts. That is what is in style for the girls right now just like when I was a kid (of course we all know that the movie Dirty Dancing inspired them then)!!

But as for the term "jorts", this is the first time I have ever heard that word. I think the only word around here is Daisy Dukes! I have no problem with them as long as they aren't too short! But like I said, the girls are wearing the longer bermuda length and cuffing them, so I'm not too worried about dd showing too much! LOL

I think she does too. I was responding to the comment from Planogirl that you can't take fashion advice from someone from a southern state. That's just mean.

I think that was directed more towards me but I'm fine with it. Us coonasses don't have much fashion sense...........we walk around wearing purple and gold (yellow) and think we look good. ;)

BTW.......................

You do realize she's from a southern state, right? We're all enjoying this one, I think. Probably one of the most humorous ones that have been on here in a while.

And since we're discovering that Jorts are not as verboten as they once were, does that mean there's hope for Speedos at the water parks???? :yay:

Here in Seattle, the college girl "uniform" seems to be a baggy hoodie and flannel pj pants tucked into a pair of uggs. :lmao: So, I'm just saying that we can't take all of our fashion advice from college-aged girls.

Then again, "getting dressed up" in the Northwest seems to mean that Keens and yoga pants are out, and you have to dig out your cleanest hiking rain jacket. So what do we know? :rotfl2:

Wait a minute, wait a minute. Texas is a southern state? I thought they considered themselves more western than southern. But what do I know, I'm from the south.

Please, no Speedos. But we don't go to the water parks so as long as they don't allow them on main street of the MK I think that I am OK.

This thread caused me to google the Nike Tempo shorts and apparently I have been encouraging cult behavior. They have become so prevalent on many college campuses that blogs have been written about fighting the growing cult of coeds wearing this type of clothing. They wear them with rainbows in warm weather and UGGS in cold weather. I know my girls love them but I didn't know that some people consider them a cult.

Lived in Vanc, WA for 20 years, and there was always 2 basic outfits; spring/summer is lite rain coats/shorts/rainboots, and fall/winter is heavy coats/jeans/rainboots. :thumbsup2

I'm from a southern state.... I guess that I needed another ;)

Texas was in the Confederacy and I never thought that I'd say that in defense! :rotfl:

Hey, I made the comment about it being OK to wear socks with Crocs. Anything goes. :hippie: I looked back at my comment and I can see that it could have been taken seriously though.

JORTS? now it is not only "in style" but has it's own name? .. and, more importantly.. once again ... I am IN STYLE again!!! YAY! (we just called them cut offs.)
I wear a pair of jeans until they get holes in the knees. then they become my cut-offs.
I would have no problem with someone wearing them in the parks. but I don't know about the sit-down restaurants. (not with me, but with the establishment) (no, not THAT "establishment", all you old hippies::hippie:rotfl:)
I used to love that I still wore tie-dye. .. until it was back in style. now I just look like an old grandma, trying to look cool. sigh!
anyway, even when "jorts" were in style years ago, they could not be substituted for a bathing suit at most pools, etc.

I agree! While they may not be in fashion for the older set, but they still are for teens & young adults..... even cut off jean skirts.

um, as an "older set" person, they are STILL in style for me!

Ahem... I'd like to pop in and say that not all jorts are created equal. I find these blanket statements regarding jorts to be misleading. Some are just fine while other jorts are just wrong. Allow me to illustrate.

Just Fine:

I hope this clears up some confusion. :hippie:

your examples of "wrong" confuse me. I saw nothing wrong with any of them, except the really short ones
on the body builder guy.(and the first 2 don't even qualify, they are not cut-offs, anyway, and none of the 3 examples you said are ok are cut-offs.,or jorts)

ok, went through the whole thread (I know people hate people that post before they read the whole thread). anyway. I thought "jorts" were cut-offs.
I thought jean shorts (with no fringe, hemmed) were always in style. I've never seen a time whne lots of people didn't wear jean shorts. I agree, denim can be hot, and if you go on water rides, dry very slowly.
I thought the OP was talking about cut -offs.

What, never?
Well, hardly ever!
Hardly ever wears jorts at sea.
With apologies to Gilbert & Sullivan.

hideous attire
I beg to differ.
Very in fashion when I was a teenager.

Also goes great with , or in the case of a boy, without a sweatshirt with the sleeves cut off. Been there done that, and still do.

To the OP (and others) What was the inseam? (that's a number).
