OK folks...seriously

There are more of us doll/plushie carriers out there than you think.

Yeah, it's weird for an adult to take a doll to WDW or any other place and eat or take photos with it. I'd be kind of worried if my husband took one of our daughter's Cabbage Patch kids to Disney and wanted to eat dinner with it. Gosh - I'd be worried if he wanted to take a doll anywhere. It's just not a normal thing.

Very very very well said!:thumbsup2

I worked at a BK in a mall one year.. and went the week before christmas (incredibly busy time for us).. the only way my boss said she'd "let" me have the time off is if I took one of our Furby toys with us and took IT'S picture around the World.

Brother and I snapped a few shots but ultimately got bored with carrying around his little plastic self, creatively named Furbio, and gave it up.
Thats as close as I've ever gotten.

OT: Your dog is absolutely adorable!!!!

Aisling, thank you for posting your photos :) Your photos are Awesome and I really enjoyed looking at them :)

Don't you see the irony in telling others that what they do is not hurting you but then you did the same thing when I was talking about somebody I know and you jumped to conclusions that my stopping her action was so sad.

I formed my opinion based on the facts YOU presented. The facts were under YOUR control and you chose not to post the entire story.

Don't you see the irony of complaining about the reaction when you chose not to present all the facts?

Good grief-live and let live people. If the guy carrying the stuffie makes you nervous, cross to the other side of the street. I doubt he's the one you have to worry about anyway. The real predator isn't going to do anything to make himself that easy to identify.

I was not planning on writing her live's story. I will remember to post names, dates etc so you can make a more informed answer. Should I post her photo too?

I was pointed out to you that I have the same right to form an opinion based on what some people post on the DIS or do when I am out. If I decide they are (fill in the blank) then that is what I will do. THE SAME AS YOU DID. If I think an (enter age) year old (male/female) is not normal for carrying dolls/stuff animals in a (fill in place) then that is my right. Live and let live goes both ways. I have a right to my opinion and a right to voice it.

BTW Why did you reference a male in your reply?

I referenced a male because it seems that a lot of this thread has been aimed at one particular poster on the DIS-who happens to be male.

Please indicate where I suggested that you did not have a right to your opinion.

You posted a story. I read what you posted and formed an opinion. You added additional facts. I posted again that I now understood why you acted that way in that situation. Where's the crime???

And yes, I do know a person who for a time, had some issues and carried a security item. At that point in her process, taking the item away would have been detrimental to her. When I read your FIRST version, it sounded very similar to her situation and that's why I felt it was sad.

Yikes. This has gotten WAY too involved for a thread about something that is so trivial.

Gossamer is my favorite WB character. Unfortunately, every plush Gossamer I've been given doesn't look right. Is your's?Suzanne

Actually, I have several and they all have their charms. The big one (way too big to take anywhere) is very accurate. Gossamer is tough to capture in 3dimensions!

OMG, here's a photo of my 12 year old son annoying his 19 year old brother with his Mickey Mouse plushie on the WDW bus, which they carried all around the parks. I guess my whole family is a bunch of freaks for having fun at Disney! :rotfl:

Good Lord, a 19 year old taking her Mickey on a DCL cruise, and even to the restaurants! What's the world coming to!:rotfl2:

I think people with the Pal Mickey and the newest ones in the croc exchange do it for fun. It's very funny to read those stories.

I would hope no one would do that for real though. However, years ago and friend and I went to a Teddy Bear show. People had their bears all dressed up and had some in strollers and/or baby carriers strapped to their bodies! :rolleyes1

Okay, I have a few things to add.

I take part in an exchange similar to the croc one, except it's a monkey. We didn't take "him" :lmao: with us every day, but we did take him to Castaway Cay and to the parks one afternoon. It was so much fun to do. He tried on our pins, our flippers and scuba gear, he was found in the drawers and shower of various resorts, drinking a Conch Cooler, etc. It was a really silly and fun thing to do. I can see why people enjoy this, esp. if you are a solo or a couple. It is like wearing Mickey Mouse ears or a tiara to me, just something fun to do to lighten up the day and enjoy being away from the normal, serious, work world.

I don't think it is a sign of any mental problems, but I can see how someone might become dependent on it. Now, many people are dependent on things - food, cigarettes, alcohol, work, cleaning, drugs, shopping, plastic surgery, etc. Everyone has things that they go overboard on. It's only a mental illness if it affects your developing friendships or having a happy, safe and productive life. If relying on stuffed animals interferes with that (as a previous poster mentioned about a suicidal friend) then we have to hope that they will all have a friend or family member as great as that poster to help them out. We can't tell from looking.

Also, I am a former CM and while working, I noticed some unusual things. There was one repeat guest who brought a stuffed dog with her to the parks. Not a plush dog, a real deceased dog that had been taxidermied. It smelled so terrible, even from a distance. She held it next to her in her tote bag, with its head sticking out as if it were alive. She stayed at the show where I worked the whole day and watched every single performance from opening to closing. It was the only time I ever refused to do something at work. We switched positions and I was supposed to stand very close to her and I just couldn't. I said, put me anywhere else, but this woman's dog is the same breed and color as my former childhood pet and I cannot deal with that. I felt bad for her but it hit too close to home. I don't know if it interfered with her life negatively, but it certainly did mine!

So, plush stuffed animals, no problem. Real stuffed animals? I can't handle that!

Yes, grown men usually have more "masculine" hobbies and are not normally into dolls.

I get the fetish/cosplay/anime thing and we all have our quirks, but I don't get the man-needs-to-travel-with-his-plushies-and-share-them-with-the-DIS thing. :confused3

Aisling, your fun is a different fun. Sorry, it does not compare to the member in question. Let's be honest here... he almost stalks certain characters and always post pictures of his "little friends." Why here at the DIS... and most of his featured plushies/dolls aren't even Disney one's. lol

Just sayin', not hating... ;)

I am a big fan of the disney characters, but I never stalk them. What I do is not stalking and it's not even close to stalking.

Also I am not hurting anyone when I take my dolls and stuffed animals with me and I am not hurting anyone when I post photos of my dolls and stuffed animals. I just love dolls and stuffed animals and I like to take them with me to disneyworld and other places and I like to talk about my dolls and stuffed animals and I like to post photos of my dolls and stuffed animals and there is nothing wrong with what I am doing.
