I have a priority seating for Ohanas for our next trip, and just looking at the menu, I realized that our 12 year old is going to be charged $24 to eat there! (and I thought the $9.99 price for kids was bad!) He honestly doesn't eat that much (hasn't hit that growth spurt/puberty yet). Are they really going to charge him that much? How strict are they there if I explain the situation to them? He's really going to eat a couple pieces of steak and some bread and that's it. Please don't tell me to lie about his age - I can't do that...... But I was just wondering if the age for child/adult is flexible at all.

Thanks!

Try explaining and maybe they will charge you for a childs meal. You really won't know until you get there and ask. Good luck!

On our last trip our kids were 5, 4 and 2. We had a fantasmic dinner package at Holywood and Vine. The yr old was free, but the waitress only charged us for 1 of our other 2 children. We corrected her and she said she had done it on purpose. She said there is no way they ate $20 worth of food. I wasn't worried about it because my kids eat fairly well....but as long as she was offering (instead of mistaken), I didn't complain.

So....try it. If you are willing to go regardless then you have nothing to lose.

Ask if he can order from a children's menu. Though technically they don't have one, they let children order from the Kona Cafe children's menu. This is different from the childrens $10 meal -- he would not be eating the standard meal, so he should only be charged for his meal, which would be $5-$6. It is also possible they might charge him the childrens $10 price for the standard meal if he doesn't eat much. They are under no obligation to do either of these, but they are usually pretty cooperative about kids. It may depend on your server -- I suggest asking directly about either or both of these possibilities right away; you can always leave if you don't like the answer, and try a menu place (like Kona Cafe).

But please don't go to any Disney buffet expecting to pay according to the value of the food eaten. That's not how it works.

Thanks to everybody that responded!! We will mention it to our server and whatever he/she decides will be okay with us. We really want to eat here, and if that means having to pay $24 for one of our children, than that's what we'll have to do. It will just end up being the most expensive dinner we have EVER eaten anywhere!! :) Hopefully, it will be worth it! :) :) :)

Thanks again!

Twice at buffets other than Ohanas, we were only charged the child price for 12y.o. DS. A very nice server named Jean at Hollywood and Vine said, "No way he ate that much, I'm only charging for a child". Good Luck:D
