After reading all the issues about Ohana, I was really nervous about our family dinner there on Christmas night. I'd lobbied for somewhere else but was outvoted. So I sucked it up and prepared for the worst.
I have to say overall I was pleasantly surprised!
We had an ADR for 7:55. Got there around 7:15/7:20, and I went to the podium - where there was no line!! - to check us in. I had my printout of my confirmation, but that wasn't needed. She found it right away by my name. She gave me the buzzer and said it would work anywhere on that level around the lobby. I started towards my dad to tell him we were checked in, and as I held the buzzer up to show him (he was a bit away), it buzzed! We quickly got my mom and got my sister out of the store and headed in where we were promptly seated.
Our "cousin" came over and explained everything to us. I reminded her of my coconut allergy, and she said the chef would come talk to me, but basically not to eat the bread or the bread pudding (which I already knew). The chef didn't make it over, which we realized when he was at a table close by when we'd almost finished. Cousin Lindsay said she would yell at him about that.
Overall the meal was good. None of us really cared for the pork, but everything else was great! The chicken and steak were especially juicy. The noodles were AMAZING! The rest of the family loved the bread pudding. I was brought the Kilahuea (spelling is off I'm sure) torte from Kona's menu and it was YUMMY!!!!! No complaints at all in that area!!
The only thing that really bugged me was a personal thing. I've got near perfect pitch, and off-key singing really makes my ears hurt. And the woman who was walking around "singing" and who did the kids stuff was really hurting my ears. I'm still trying to figure out why they would purposely have someone who can't sing attempt to. But others seemed to be enjoying her a lot.
So I'm happy to report that at least from what I saw, they seem to be getting their act together.
