Oh, The Places We’ll Go! From the “stars” to the “sea”: Universal, SeaWorld & beyond - Spring 2016

Wow, those are awesome seats! And look at the leg room! My husband is 6'4 and he's always really cramped in the seats at the Rogers Centre so those seats would be a dream for him. I'm surprised that the stadium is so empty - like you, I am used to a full house at Jays games here.

Love your wedding pictures, happy anniversary! A free upgrade on your room is definitely a great way to celebrate! :cheer2:

Yeah we had one not too far from our side of Niagara Falls and another one down in the Southern Tier near Ralph Wilson Stadium. Our proximity to Canada may have had a hand in why we were lucky enough to get one in the first place lol I have no idea why they closed but I sure was bummed about it!

We still need to get a Niagara area Dismeet scheduled for sometime this summer. We could host a dinner at Swiss Chalet!

Slow down! You are getting dangerously close to the end of your TR! Though I did enjoy reading some back to back updates again! I have been trying to get Will to a Cracker Barrel for years, but he is stubborn and for some reason does not want to go. He promises though that when we drive to Dollywood in July, that we can stop there for a meal. Wohooo!

I would be so bored at the Baseball game, but it was the highlight for your boys!! What a great upgrade at the Residence Inn! And what a lucky break, you probably got the last Cabana of the day!

You too are so cute on your wedding day. 19 years old! Wow!

Don't worry, as close as we are to the end I still have lots to write before this report officially concludes :goodvibes. I have a hard time summarizing anything briefly!!

I will admit that I used the free wifi at the Trop quite a bit during the game :rolleyes1 .... I find baseball to be a bit of a s-l-o-w game .... but I still had a great time. It's hard not to be sucked into Steve and Jake's enthusiasm when they're all wound up like tops.

Yes, 19....I can't imagine Jake being married now, at 20, let alone a year ago! How's that for a double standard!! :rolleyes2

So many great updates! Your trip reports are the BEST! :thumbsup2

We love Sweet Tomatoes! I may have to see if the family wants to try their breakfast out.

I'm sorry to hear about the drive down to St. Pete. I like to get where I'm going early too! I'm so glad you guys made it on time for the boat. ::yes::

Loved the dolphin cruise and so happy that you got to see so many! :sail:

Sorry that the Jays didn't win, but what amazing seats!

Love your wedding pictures! Happy belated Anniversary to you and Steve! :bride: :groom:

Yay for the upgrade at the hotel!

We went to Aquatica for the first time last year. We loved it! We plan to go again this year before our APs expire.

Looking forward to the rest of your trip report! :thumbsup2 Will you be doing a pre-trip report for your October trip?

Thank you, my friend! :goodvibes

The jury is still out on the PTR (or even a TR) for October. I have a lead on a new job (and have undergone two interviews for that position so far).....and if I am successful in being hired by this particular company, my trip reporting time will probably become a thing of the past. It's more hours and a more demanding position in a very large office environment. It would, however, come with a significant pay raise: about 25% more than I am making now, with some extra benefits to boot. Sooooooo..........at this point, I won't say yes but I won't say no. If someone else beats me out for the job, then its business as usual.....and an autumn PTR will kick off once this one wraps up. I have worked for my current company for 18 years (and they have no idea about this possible new opportunity I have been investigating) so it would be a huge change for me and a big blow to my current employers. The waiting is killing me. I am supposed to find out sometime from the middle to late next week if I have made the most recent cut and am selected for another (yes, the third!!) interview.

That's the first thing Steve said ..... OMG! Look at all this leg room!

I can totally relate, being 5' 2" I get cramped legs ALL the time ;) :rotfl:.

Oh how I miss Swiss Chalet!! We used to have a couple in Buffalo. Now we just have to settle with my dad bringing home some sauce packets to make it at home when he has work trips to Vancouver or Toronto lol
Is the one near the Boulevard mall gone? It was open last time I was there but that was around Christmas I think.

That sounds lovey!

Yeah it's been closed for a little bit now. Idk if they put something else there or not? I don't live around that area so I don't go by too often.

Swiss Chalet is a Canadian gem. Of course, you either love or hate their signature "Chalet Sauce" (Steve despises it, Jake and I could drink it) so that's always a good topic for a debate. Almost as good as Who has the better hockey team: Toronto, Ottawa or Montreal?
San Jose?????:rolleyes1 hehehe I under no circumstances pretend to be a real hockey fan, I am still trying to figure it out, but my in laws share the same unique last name as a San Jose player. since that name will never be famous again I am sure, I have been cheering for them the past few years. Sadly west coast games are on very late for the most part here on the east coast so other than the cup series, I don't see many live games.

but what is this Swiss Chalet? I may have to con my hubby into bringing these sauce packets back to try from a business trip. I love trying new fast food. I really don't eat fast food often, but when we travel I have a thing for trying new chains. except for Del Taco in Cali. DH would not go that far.

This would be great! Let's start planning! :thumbsup2

Sendingpixiedust: that you get this new job! But you can't stop trip reports! We will be patient if you write slower- really!!! ::yes::

Thank you pattyw! If I *do* get the job and the transition is a little less stressful than I anticipate, then the trip reporting shall continue....I have so much fun with it, as you know!. Right now, just to be on the safe side, I'd like to under-promise and over-perform rather than the other way around :p.

Ok the "old" players are like 35 and still ripped. Show me one pro athlete without a good butt and I'll agree to baggy pants for him.

Am I allowed to admit that's usually not the first place that I look? :o

That sounds lovey!

Once I know if I get this job, then I can toss out some potential dates :thumbsup2. Even if we could just all meet for dinner somewhere...doesn't have to be a full-on weekend blow-out (though I'm sure THAT would be a Dismeet to remember if @dancin Disney style was part of it ).

Swiss Chalet is a Canadian restaurant famous for its rotisserie chicken and signature "chalet sauce".

Their chicken is AWESOME, and their prices are very reasonable. If you ever get the chance, give it a try.....its a great place.

Sunday, May 1st: Aquatica continued

I continued on my little photo tour in a big circle around the park. My plan was to snap some pictures, then stash the camera in the cabana’s locker before making a bee line for Roa’s Rapids. That’s where Jake and Steve were planning to meet up with me once they had finished getting their fill of the slides.

The line-up for Ihu’s Breakaway Falls was not too bad at this point of the morning, actually. It got FAR worse by the time the mid-day point rolled around. The guys love this slide but there’s no way in heck you’d ever get me to give it a try. After all, y’all know what I think of drops :scared1:.

For the first time in MANY visits, they had not just one but BOTH sides of the wave pool open to guests.

This area, called Big Surf Shores, is also one of our favourite places to hang out on a hot afternoon. We all enjoy the waves and being able to spend time all together at one attraction that suits all of our thrill levels.

Side #1 ….

The middle point ….

And, the second side:

Whanau Way is another one of the park’s feature tube slide areas. While it appears to be deserted in this picture, I assure you there were LOTS of guests enjoying the shorter morning waits.

I spent a little bit of time admiring the Commerson dolphins in the underwater viewing area. They were exceptionally active that morning and a real treat to watch. Such unique little creatures…..they always remind me of teeny tiny killer whales.

Line ups were already long at Dolphin Plunge. This was one of the slides that did not qualify for Quick Queue access, so the boys were going to have a fairly long wait if they chose to ride it at some point during the day.

I eventually wound myself back to the cabana. This was the last time I saw Roa’s Rapids fairly quiet: within an hour or so, it would be a large mass of life jacket-clad bodies :crowded:.

I think I had done eight to ten full rotations of Roa’s Rapids by the time the guys caught sight of me as I passed by our cabana. They had come back to dry off and re-sunscreen, and were keeping a keen eye out for me as they did so. Considering this was my favourite spot to just “hang out” and our designated attraction at which to meet when we were separated, having a rapids-view cabana was exceptionally handy. They finished with adding their extra sun protection and met me over at the rapids entrance. We floated around for a long time……we even got a Photokey picture :).

Around one o’clock, the guys were getting pretty hungry so we decided to break for lunch. There are basically only two options for dining at Aquatica: the Waterstone Grill (a typical quick-service, a la carte location) or the Banana Beach Buffet. It mattered not to me…..I was happy with literally anything…..so I left it to the men to decide which they preferred. They opted, not surprisingly for Banana Beach: all-you-can-eat establishments are always good choices for their vigorous appetites :teeth:.

As pass members, we saved 10% off the cost of the all-day wristband. Our total for three was $57.51 ($20 per person less the discount, plus tax).

We have had mixed experiences with this buffet in the past. It’s been anywhere from “pretty decent for the price” to “meh”. We had never gone hungry, though, and there has been enough of a selection for us all to find things we liked.

With our wristbands on, we headed inside to fill our plates. The main buffet is located inside this building.

Seating is available in a large area outside and adjacent to the buffet building, under a covered canopy. There are also stand-alone chairs and tables with umbrellas in the open area next to the canopy cover.

The buffet offerings had changed quite substantially….and for the better….since our most recent Banana Beach experience. There were several new and quality items now being featured on the buffet, and we were quite impressed at the menu revisions.

There were 4 different cold salads:

A create-your-own green salad bar:

Roasted chicken legs, pulled pork, seasoned beef, and steamed hot dogs:

Hot pasta (that was switched from batch to batch….this one show marinara pasta but there was also mac ‘n cheese at one point), rice, black beans, and mixed hot vegetables:

Cheese pizza and pepperoni pizza:

Chicken breast slices, meatballs (which were rotated between sweet and sour and marinara-sauced), and sausages with peppers:

Warm nachos with all the toppings:

Melon, pineapple, mandarin slices, chocolate pudding with crushed cookies, and chocolate chip cookies:

Warm apple crisp:

And of course, there were unlimited Coke fountain beverages.

We sampled a little bit of everything, and there was nothing that we didn’t like. The buffet was kept very clean (has not always been the case before now), the food was replenished quickly and the hot items were kept nice and hot, and the meats were especially good. We enjoyed the increased variety, and that warm apple crisp? Mmmmmmmm :cloud9:…it was fantastic. Someone had brought in Grandma’s recipe, for sure.

More to come!

Aquatica looks like a fun waterpark...I will definitely want to try it sometime! The buffet looked good too...I'm sometimes leary of buffets but I'm glad you had a good experience this time!

Thank you! Happy belated anniversary to you guys as well! I hope you have something special planned for your 20th celebration.....maybe a trip to Orlando? :flower3:

I'd love a trip to Orlando, and maybe can wiggle a belated anniversary trip in next June when DD graduates high school. (did I just type that?!?!) LOL!

No pity here though, as we've promised DD that she can go on her high school Senior Spring Break trip.
Moms and dads tag along, and it's almost always somewhere sunny and exotic!!

Because I suck with the quotes, we don't have anything for sure planned soon as far as Florida. My mom and I are looking at going down in January/early February. I have over $100 in flight credit to use...so it can't go to waste. Plus I can work from wherever. We won't really hit the parks too much if we go.
I do have a trip to DC planned in September.

Now those buffet pictures are making me hungry and crave the bad food!

See, in this end of the province we have debates over Swiss Chalet vs St Hubert. And Tim Horribles vs. Starstrucks coffee. And hockey...

Okay there is a difference between who I root for and who has the better team, and it can vary by year. But being a native Torontonian, who spent his early childhood living in Montreal, and most of his adult life in Ottawa. I would have to say that in most years Montreal mounts the better team. And it has the most passionate fan base. I am still an Ottawa fan, but have to look at the records and history.

Great picture of you guys at Aquatica! ::yes::

Sending you some pixiedust: for your job interview. It sounds like a great opportunity for you, Gina! :goodvibes Please don't stop writing trips reports though! Even if it takes a whole year to write it, we'll still follow along! ::yes::

Fingers crossed on the job front. It's a big decision to leave somewhere after 18 years :goodvibes

The buffet actually looks good value with plenty of choice. Your day is going swimmingly well!

St Hubert all the way!!!!!! While I am always happy to have Swiss Chalet, EVER single time we go to Ottawa St Hubert is a must do. We once stayed at the Sheraton across from the Museum of Civilization just to be closer to St. Hubert. If we still had it here I think I would probably chose that over SC most times.

You are absolutely right on Montreal fans being very passionate about their team.
