oh my gosh... I am stunned.

so we have this dog house listed on craigslist. Woman called said she was looking at several and would be by sometime yesterday afternoon. I had no way to call her as her number didnt come up on caller ID. Well My mum called and offerred to take the kids overnight. That would give J and I a much needed night out together (he is actually home this week yay first one in a month!) so I am not going to turn this down.

I tried to figure out how to contact this woman but there was no way. I finally left about 5:30. She apparently showed up 6 then left. She called from a pay phone, said "Hope you will be there when I get back" obviously we werent. So we got home, and there was a check under the door. She had gone INTO MY FENCED BACK YARD, wandered around apparently come onto my back porch and taken the dog house!!!

Can you imagine?????


I am stunned. I cant even imagine doing that!

Craigslist people are looneys. 6pm is not afternoon. Did you actually post your address in your Craigslist ad? I don't understand how you couldn't reach her. If she had originally emailed you to get your phone number or address, you would have had a way to contact her. If she has a Blackberry, she could have checked her emails before coming over.

I would never! However, with that said, nothing really surprises me anymore....this is a good one though. I will have to share this story with my mom as both her and I have sold items on Craigslist in the past. Thanks for sharing. So was the check written for the correct amount, or did she write it for more because she saw something else in your backyard she fancied???

Oh goodness no! She emailed me through the annonymiser . She called and I gave her my address.

I emailed her back but apparently it was a work email or something She didnt respond. She called at 6, she had already been here and knocked on the door. When she called she said it was from a gas station and gave me the number there because she didnt have a cell phone.
I looked through all of my caller IDs and none of her numbers were there.

I honestly did try to contact her but after 5:30 I just figured she was a no show.

and yes she left the dog . Havent done a full inventory, its a huge back patio so there is a lot of stuff out there. The check was only for the dog house though

That was my first thought too! After reading there is no way to contact this woman I have a gut feeling she wanted it that way.

That is such NERVE to do what she did. Scary really.

Yea, I don't like that at-all. The fact that she didn't leave cash is even more suspicious. I would never do that, but if I DID, I would at least leave cash (in an envelope or something) so there wouldn't be any question.

One time, I filled up my gas tank at a local station, went in to pay, and couldn't find anyone. I waited for a few minutes, then just left the money on the counter. I didn't have a problem doing that and I don't really have an issue with what the lady did, as long as the check is good.

From her perspective, she had an agreement to come over and look at it and that she would buy it at your price if she liked it. Your not being home as the two of you discussed did not change the terms of the sale, so she consumated the deal.

I would be copying down that info just in case the check does bounce.

I will never post anything on craigslist again. Last summer I wanted to get rid of my BROKEN 57" screen TV. I figured somebody would use t for parts or pay to fix it. I didn't want any money for it - I just didn't want to throw it out if there was somebody that could do something with it.

Some guy responded and I told the guy it was broken but could be repaired for approx $400 and that the remote was missing and there was a small tear in the fabric over the speaker. Well the guys gets here and is PISSED that the remote was "gone"(it works on our other TV so we decided to keep it but we did tell him ahead of time it was gone -use a universal remote dude) and was pissy about the tear. He wanted US to PAY HIM to take it in that condition. Keep dreaming buddy.
