Oh my dear MIL has decided

Wow, that was snarky.....

If the OP doesn't want to 'tell', and get thoughts/feedback from others... Yes, by all means, she should refrain from posting on a public forum.

The only thing that I can tell, is that the OP's issues with frugality and control issues with her DD and her MIL mean that Grandma can't buy a nice gift for her grandchild.

I do feel very strongly about parental rights... So, maybe MIL should just give-it-up and buy for her grandchildren at the local Goodwill thrift shop.

While I understand you want to be frugal OP, think about it. When you were your DDs age would you really want to wear your grandmothers hand-me downs? My mom is always trying to give my DD her hand-me downs and I always turn them down. Finally I asked her point blank, when you were DDs age would YOU want to wear your grandmothers hand-me downs? She hasn't asked again.

While they might be perfectly good shoes, lets face it, they belonged to an older woman, not a pre-teen. Maybe MIL was remembering what its like to be your DDs age and trying to help her.

I haven't read anything other than OP's opening remarks. I wanted to comment before I read anything. I WISH my kids had grandparents that were that involved in my kids lives to make such purchases. As my kids are nearing the age of having kids of their own, I sure hope they don't have a problem with me buying my grandkids items that I know are "over the top." But as a Grandparent I can't wait for the day to spoil them and I think my kids will be okay with that because they have commented on how nice it would be if grandmom got them this or that.

Honestly, I think people who have problems with this senario feel like they are losing control of their kids and want to dictate every little aspect. Take it for what it is...a generous gift.:flower3:

Y'all are welcome to PM me if ya want - i'm sure you're tired of this thread by now... I've PM'd some of you that had questions - that seemed to really want to help.

I most likely won't check this thread again -or at least not promptly...

FWIW the "hand me down shoes" are practically new - mom had surgery & can't wear them & in my mind shoes that were bought in April are also new shoes. In fact 1 pair of tennies are good enough for dd, but since the other 2pair were gonna be given to goodwill I took them for her..

Thanks! :thumbsup2
