And Now, Tom Will Reveal How It Was All Done...
Like the final scene in a great detective drama, word is coming out about the great lengths that Tom Cruise, his girlfriend/zombie bride Katie Holmes and the foot soldiers at Vanity Fair went to in an attempt to keep Suri out of the public eye until the grand unveiling could occur on their own terms.
Credit is being held up on a silver platter to Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter, who concocted the security strategy behind the unveiling. The magazine's staff were prohibited from seeing the photos ahead of time and a squad of private security guards were hired to guard the magazine when it was printed. The issue is out in the states but has yet to hit Canada. But Graydon did not stop there. As the magazine was shipped, a sheet of paper was laid on top of the covers to prevent peeping eyes-or inquiring minds.
The vice-president of the magazine's marketing group, Joe Bertolino, said one scrappy little weekly mag was caught at a distribution point, but he wouldn't say which one, only dropping the clue that it wasn't owned by a "reputable" magazine company. Perhaps American Media Inc., who own Star, the National Enquirer and Weekly World News, who broke the story about the discovery of the Titanic's sister ship frozen in an iceberg?
The National Enquirer had described the photo a full four days before the photo came out, saying, "The baby has a mop of dark hair and strongly resembles Katie. No resemblance to Tom is immediately apparent." She looks like a baby to me, and I don't think Tom or Katie look like babies, so it's a tough call. But black hair and blue eyes sound like Tom to me, though blogs that have put Suri side-by-side with Katie's ex Chris Klein certainly raised my eyebrows. They both have slender eyes, but maybe the TomKitten is like a regular kitten, and still hasn't opened her eyes all the way yet.
The first photo of the five-month-old baby girl was seen when Katie Couric held up the cover of the October Vanity Fair on her first broadcast on September 5th. Keeping such a hot pic under wraps is a stunt that not even Brangelina was capable of, with their first photos of their newborn Shiloh Jolie-Pitt leaking days before the pics hit the stands in People and Hello. I'm sure Brangelina couldn't have cared less, since their priority was getting $4.1 million for charity, not making a big public show. If you want public shows, TomKat is the couple to watch. Those two still owe us a big wedding. National Enquirer reporters already have their outfits-bushes.
