Offsite Shopping / Transportation Options??

Since we'll be at WDW for 14 days, I was thinking we might want to take a day and go offsite at some of the outlet stores. We've been to WDW using our own car and never wanted to go offsite. Now that we're flying and not renting a car I suddenly have the urge to bargain shop! My question is, what's the best way to do this? I know we could rent a car for the day, but that seems to be a real pain for just one day. I've been looking at the trolley service, but I'm very unfamiliar with it and how it works. I was thinking we might be able to take WDW tranportation to downtown Disney and then take a taxi to the nearest trolley serviced shopping area and go from there. Would this work and is it the best way to go? Thanks for any help anyone can give!

If I did not have a car for my stay (and we normally stay 10-14 days) also, I would seriously consider renting one for the day. I would imagine it would be a lot easier to get to the different outlet stores and bargain outlets and take all your stuff back. If you bargain shop like my wife does, you'd be carrying that stuff around all day, instead of stashing it in the trunk and hitting lots of places....

Again, your mileage may vary, but that's what I might do...

Well see? That's why I ask questions here! I never thought about lugging the packages around all day and I won't even have my husband with me to make him carry them all! Thanks for the advice. I've read there are onsite locations for rentals. Are they all National and if so I wonder how the change to Alamo affects this?
