Official Wine and Dine 2016 thread

We must all be busy training it's gotten so quiet in here.
Yeah, it is quiet in here for sure. Hopefully it picks up a bit once summer winds down and we get closer to race weekend.

I completed week 2's 4 miler this afternoon. I shifted my days to Monday, Wednesday and Friday this week since we're leaving for Vancouver for the Disney cruise to Alaska on Sunday, and I didn't know if I'd be able to fit it in tomorrow with wrapping up getting things together. And I'm glad I did, because it was in the upper 60s and cloudy today so it was great outdoor running weather (my other 2 runs this week were on the treadmill again). I'm not sure what will happen with training next week. The cruise is going to be busy and running is honestly just not going to be on my mind. This is our first Disney cruise and I know there will be a lot to see and take in. I'll probably just try to shift the training plan back a week and pick back up with week 3 after we get back, and skip the final week of the plan. Or do you guys think I should skip week 3 and pick up with week 4 since its early in the plan? Any advice would be appreciated! I know the best thing to do would be to try to squeeze in the runs on the trip, but like I said, I don't think it will happen.

@*DisneyDreamer i think I'd skip this week and pick up week 4. I guess because the finals weeks of the plan are important for taper?

Have so much fun! I'd love to do an Alaska cruise with DCL someday...FWIW I've found I'm weirdly good with getting my runs in during cruises. I think there's added pressure due to being surrounded by food alllll of the time. :)

we're leaving for Vancouver for the Disney cruise to Alaska on Sunday,

Have fun! I just got back from a cruise to Alaska (not Disney, though). It was beautiful! I managed one run on the ship. I had planned to do two more but got sick and decided to conserve my energy for ports.

Or do you guys think I should skip week 3 and pick up with week 4 since its early in the plan?

I'd maybe do a blend of weeks 3 and 4. Like, if week 3 has a 4 mile run and week 4 has a 5 mile run, do a 4.5 mile run instead. But I think early on in the training plan it probably wouldn't be the worst to just skip a week. That would be my preference over cutting out the last week.

I just finished Week 3 of a 12-week training plan for a half marathon in September. I sketched out a plan to transition to training for W&D after that, but probably won't think too hard about W&D-specific training until then. I have been closely studying the Food & Wine menus, however! :teeth:

Week 2 is done! Today's run was good but it sucked. The run part was fine and the weather was good, overcast, breeze and 60, but I so didn't want to be out there. I'm looking for other places to run so I don't just run on the same trail over and over because it gets boring. I think part of it was I started off my long runs last week with an organized fun 5k and this week was by myself, I wanted to sleep longer and just not do it. It was good to get through mentally though, even if it was only 4 miles.

Thanks for the advice @Ariel484 and @CherieFran. I might try to squeeze in one run on the ship, but otherwise I'll just skip week 3 and try to pick up with week 4. Since week 3 is 5 miles and week 4 is 3, I might do another 4-miler as the "long run."

If anyone wants to follow along with my cruise, I'll be trying to post a few pictures on my Instagram, possibly on port days if we can get cell service. Otherwise I'll be posting a lot when we get back! So if you have an account, feel free to add me. My username is bluedukes05 - my account is private but I'd be happy to add anyone from here. :)

Also, please cross your fingers for us that we make it out to Vancouver okay. We have a connecting flight through Minneapolis, and it doesn't sound like they're going to have very good weather tomorrow morning (potentially strong thunderstorms). So I'm worried and am stressing. If our first flight is significantly delayed, we may miss our connection. Definitely do not want to be trying to scramble to get something else to get in on time.

I think I would turn week 3 & 4 into a hybrid of the 2, so you don't skip the last week. I don't run on vacations unless it's a race vacation, so I wouldn't get to worried, you'll get back into the swing of things once you get back even if you don't get any runs in on the trip. Sounds like a fun cruise, enjoy yourself!

Yes, me too! As a vegetarian I quickly marked what was ok, plenty of good things it looks like. I'm thinking we'll hit up food booths after the races, the night of the half or the following day.

Good for getting out there and getting it done. There is no ONLY, 4 miles is 4 miles, so good job! I run almost the same every day too, I think it's just grown on me and the cornfields I run by are friendly:)

My run was pretty good today, ran 8 & it wasn't too terribly hot luckily, will be 100 during the week this week so that should be fun, not!. I don't really have a plan except to keep my long runs in the 7-9 until Sept I think. I had been having some knee pains, and I thought it was from my dog jumping and hitting my knee, but it wasn't getting better, well early last week I woke with a terrible Charlie Horse in my right calf. After that my knee pain is better, but I've been really stick rolling and stretching...Guess my leg had gotten really tight and was pulling on the knee. So yeah lesson learned on that, keep the legs loose.

I say only because I feel like 4 has gotten easy to do. The guy at starbucks was impress though, he said he gets winded just going up the stairs. I run the trail along the river and there is a golf course and houses along part of it. I think part of it was also because the trail was pretty quite this morning for 9am than when I'm normally out there. There's a few other places I've found to run and will switch up where I start on the trail as the runs get longer because there's a decent bathroom further down but far enough that I wouldn't get there from where I start now. It's nice to be able to use the bathroom after a longer run. My neighborhood isn't big enough or flat enough to do much over 3 miles in it. I don't really want to go up or down dead man's hill for a run. It's too steep for a sled too, not that we generally get enough snow for that kind of thing.

Great job everyone on your runs today!

I downloaded the training program and did the four mile run today. Treadmill run again, the deer flies here are just terrible right now. I did a half last weekend, so I'm just going to start from here. I have another race in August, but I'll figure that out as I get closer.

I would do this as well since it's so early on. I will say, I was horribly sick before Princess and pretty much missed the whole taper time in bed. I ran the Monday or Tuesday before I left for Princess and it was my first run since my mock Princess weekend two weeks before the races. I survived to tell! ;)

I requested to follow! @lovingeire is my name on Instagram too.

I ran a 10K today. Not an organized one, just had 6 miles on my training plan as I have two half marathons in September. It was honestly a great run. I felt really strong. Ran on a trail for the first time, not thinking about bug spray, so that was a little annoying, but otherwise it's a great place to get some miles in! We live in a small town so it can be interesting to get the mileage in here vs. where we just moved from so I am happy to find some ways to eek it out without having to be on the main road! (Which I will probably have to resort to for 10+ miles.) The weather this morning was pretty nice, which I appreciate after a brutal 30 minute run on Thursday! Week two successfully done!

@lovingeire hmm, that's weird, I don't have any pending requests. :confused3 Great job on your unorganized 10K today! I too need to find a new place to run for longer distances other than the streets around my apartment (which don't have sidewalks except on the busier streets). There's a park a couple miles away that I've gone to a couple times which has a nice loop around a pond, but the loop is only 0.9ish miles and getting over there doesn't have sidewalks either. There's a good local path near my parents' house, but I'd have to drive to get there. But that requires more time then. I have to decide what to do come the longer runs.

Ok, for reals now! Apparently I had pulled you up and neglected to hit follow. Duh! I blame all the sun I got today! LOL! Yes, when you have to drive I feel like it requires more planning as well, but I guess we do what we have to do. I know i hate circling around so I always look for at least an out and back with some variety in it. The struggle is real!

Have fun on your cruise! I can't wait to hear all about it!

I agree. I love this loop at the park, but even after 3-4 laps it gets less enjoyable. I was blown away by the Olympic trials athletes who ran the 10,000 meters on the track. They said it was 26 laps - I can't imagine! :faint:

@*DisneyDreamer just sent a request to follow you on Instagram as the cruise will be fun to see!

I ran to our local park today about 2.25 miles away and then did loops there but at least they are 1 mile or if I go on the grass 1.25. But yeah driving places takes too much time and I hate/can't sit after running.

I drive most places I run, but the trail closest is just 5 min down the hill. Not a hill I would feel safe running up or down nor would I want to if there were sidewalks.

I ran to the middle school by me last month to use their track and I ran half my laps the normal way and the other half I switched directions. That was weird since I spent many a gym class there running the mile on that track. It didn't feel right to go around the wrong way but it did help with the boredom.

My fellow W&D runner friend and I are running our 10k for P.O.T. next week and I'm not even feeling ready for that. :\ I had hoped we could do a 10k a bit closer to the deadline but this was the only one that worked for both of us. I guess something is better than nothing to turn in, right??? :\
I am however 100% ready to eat all the delicious things I'm seeing on the W&D menu! It is going to be torture being at the fest the days before the race! Good thing we also have a day post race to really stuff ourselves to our hearts content! :)

Good Luck & pixie dust on your 10K!
...and this reminds me Proof of Time is due by August 2. Good idea to double check it's updated in active too just in case!

Have fun on the cruise! I did the DCL cruise to Alaska in May and had a blast. I somehow managed to find time to run, granted the first time was a mile and the 2nd time was 2 miles. There's so much to see and do on the cruise, but I ran first thing in the morning before breakfast on the track. I brought a camera with me while I ran just in case I saw something- which of course I didn't see any wild life while running, just pretty scenery.
The fitness center is also pretty cool to use and the treadmills face outside in the front of the ship, so you have a good view there to. I did walk on the treadmill while searching for wildlife, again I didn't see any wildlife on the treadmill.
If you don't get a chance to run I would do as others have said and skip week 3.

No runs until at least Wednesday I imagine. Waiting for the dr to open. Always fun to wake up in the middle of the night with vertigo because my inner ear issue decided to come back. Thankfully dramamine helps me walk straight until it's all sorted :)

Enjoy the cruise!! Alaska is so beautiful. I am doing a 9-night Alaskan cruise next year and I am going insane with planning already. I keep forgetting that I'm going to Disney first! It's impressive when something can make me forget about going to WDW! :rotfl:

Everyone ready to sign up for the seminars and PFTS tomorrow .. Maybe ... Depending on Disney phone lines :)
