Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

Does anyone out there have problems with their game cube memory card in their wii?

Our memory card worked great in the game cube, but it is very moody in the wii, most of the time it doesn't work. (I don't know what I did to get it to work the hand full of times it did work).

It is a generic memory card, if that makes a difference. I would hate to think that was the problem though.

we never once had a problem with it in the gamecube, but have had problems with it in the wii, since we've had the wii (christmas 2006). Anyone else have this problem?

Have not had that problem..but I only have "official" memory cards. I've never been a fan of offbrand cards as my past experiences with them from psone, dreamcast days were not very good. Often times They became "corrupt" or stoped working all together.

My guess is that you are right in the problem with them being offbrand.

As a rule of thumb only buy offbrand stuff (for any system) if they have an official seal on the package. That means it has been approved by the system maker..in this case the Nintendo seal.

Suggestion #1) is to find a used GC memory card for cheap and transfer your files over to it.

Suggestion #2) Call nintendo's AMAZING customer service and see what they tell you...it is possible that somethign is wrong with the card port on the system(as the case for not reading it) however that is unlikely...they may be able to give you a way to check though.

Hope this helps!

After I posted here, I googled it, and sure enough the brand I have (mad catz) has had problems with the Wii. We got it for free, with the gamecube, so the price was right. :)

I'll pick up a nintendo brand the next time my kids drag me into the video game store. It is better the problem is the card than the wii.

Like I said not uncommon with unofficial memory cards.

Do you think this will hold true with SD cards? I mean, I think an SD card is an SD card. Maybe Nintendo specially formats theirs or something? Just wondering since it's been such a long standing problem with the old systems. Of course we don't have Mad Catz SD cards, so maybe not?

nope...nintendo has stated any sd card will do...I would imagine is you get a good quality Sdcard like a sansa it's a-ok. get a crappy off brand and you may have trouble becasue the quality just isn't as good.

But I forsee no problems with sd cards and the Wii.

Sorry if this is a repeat question, but gosh this is a lot of pages to go through! :lmao:

He's mastered his L-Max, and also plays the Wii (mostly sports and super mario party), as well as PS2 (Cat in the Hat, Charlie & the Chocoloate Factory, Dora) all the time. DH says it's time for him to move up with his handheld.

Do y'all agree or is he ridiculously young for one? :confused3

Not Wii related but my ds had no problems using his Gameboy Advance when he was five. (Or was it a Gameboy Color? He has moved from Gameboy Color to Gameboy Advance, Gameboy SP, Gameboy DS and of course wants a DS Lite now). He mainly did Mario games at that age. I think once kids grasp the video game concept, they have no problem adjusting to different systems. :thumbsup2 They might get frustrated with a particular game but never the system. Hope that helps!

As stated I see no problem you 5yr old ds couldn't play a ds...the only things to know and think about...

1) The games are what will really be the thing to watch...obviously he could play a game like mario(with little reading) without any problem at all. However somethign like Pokemon is WAY out of his league with all the text.

2)Not sure how careful you ds is with things, but remembr it is a electronic device and it is not cheap. I've seen more little kids break or lose then because they play and then just simply set them down and go do other stuff. Very easy to step on, drop or forget.

Thats about it...he should be fine to play a DS...although it may take a little bit to teach him about the stylus.

We've had this exact question a bunch of times here and the response has been overwhelmingly in favor of the system being fine for a 5 year old. Especially one who is familiar with video games.

We all caution being more hands on with the system above others because of the nature of using the stylus. He might need more help and supervision at the beginning than he would with a regular gameboy.

Wii Firmware 3.0 Update!

In case you haven't updated (internet required) Go to the wii system menu...settings....right arrow a coupld of times...wii firmware update(might just say wii update) click and let it download. It wook me about 8 min for it to download...so just click and let it go.

What's new:
- Clock Display
- New colour scheme for the mail channel/message
- Disk Channel - The Disk turns 180 left and right
- Forcast Channel Icon (once you click on it)- Now displays the weather without having to enter the channel
- Faster loading times when changing channels/leaving channels
- Move contacts on Adress Book
- News headlines in News Channel menu
- Time Played Envelopes are now white...and no longer yellow so you can tell them apart.
- Light bar goes on when disk is inserted or removed
- Able to navigate Wii Settings with + and -
- Scrolling through messages - New sound, and scrolling with B now displays an arrow similar to the Internet Channel
-USB keyboard function added for wii-mail, and shop channel(no internet support yet...but i bet it's comming)

I did not type this all up by myself..i cut and pasted from a message board on ign.com....there may be other features which i missed..but it's the main stuff i noticed also when i downloaded it.

Enjoy, THK

We're back(from Disney) so let the new questions arrive!

I'll be back this weekend with some impressions of Madden 08 (i'm a couple of games into franchise and will be playing online tonight)
**quick note**
-controls are vastly improved overlast years! less screen pointing is easier on the arm muscles!

Welcome back, hope you had a great time

One question, any more news about the High School Musical sing it game?

As for HSM:Sing it....nothing new..Disney is keeping it pretty quite at the moment, I posted the release date a while back..I believe it was in November. Rest assured I'll post the info as soon as I get it!

Didn't HSM2 rock!? We watched it in the hotel room at Disney! lol

Did you see the gang on the Kids choice awards last night?! I though a few girls might faint for screaming so much! lol

Hi -

I am not very Wii savy and need a little help - we have been just playing the Wii Play and the Sports games to get used to using the controls (we haven't been big gamers at my house) but have rented a couple this week to try and see what we might like to buy.

My question is when you save a game that you have rented - is it saved to the Wii or to the disc?

I am sure this is a very stupid question - but I need to know if we go and buy the game we have been renting do the kids have their game saved in the Wii's memory somewhere or do they start over from square one.

Please forgive my ignorance and thank you for any help.

That's a great question! Welcome to the thread!

Any game you save is saved to the Wii itself except in cases of Virtual Consel downloads, which doesn't apply to your situation.

So no worries, if you decide to buy a game after renting it, the save file will be there waiting for you.

I am trying to choose between Madden 08 and Mario Strikers for a new game for my boys. They don't play Strikers much on the GC so not sure that would be the way to go, they (or at least one of them) loves Madden games but I would want something they both like. They did mention some new circus game or something like that, will have to go search on line for what that is.

When I was at our local Target this past Sunday, they had at least 6 new Wii's in stock, so maybe they'll start showing up in the stores for those still looking for one.

First, :worship:

What will I need if I want to get the new Dance Dance Revolution that is coming out?

Where do you buy your Wii stuff. This is so expensive. I guess I have to read through the threads to see what I even need:scared1:

Thanks!
