Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

Pretty sure it's on it way....I'll have to look it up for ya, but I swear I saw some info about the original Contral heading to the wii VC.((if you guys have a Nintendo Ds in the house--the next instalment of the contral series--is comming to the DS!!! it is designed like the classic game))

EDITContra III is out for download on the VC right now!

This is awesome news!! And yep - we have 2 DS's in the house! :thumbsup2

Are the bundles usually a good value or is it the same to buy each piece seperately?

Wal-Mart has one for $540 with a bunch of stuff with it but I don't know if we would need all that (or what it all is!)

I am thinking of getting one for my 11 year old daughter. It would mainly be just her and me playing and I would probably just get her the sports games and things like that. Do we need extra controllers, cords, etc.?

thanks for any help you can give...

Bundles are only a good value if you want everything in them. If you don't know what some things in it are, then you probably don't need it. I would keep looking for a system. You would need one extra controller/nunchuck so that both of you can play. Other than that, you just need some games. (Wii Sports comes with the system, so you have a game to start.

Hi! I was scrolling through some of the posts, and i couldnt find out how to hook up the gamecube controller to the nintendo Wii. Can you please tell me where to put it?

Thanks,
Jenna

Jenna,
All of the gamecube stuff is under a little panel on one of the sides of the Wii. break out that instruction book and look for the diagrams if you can't find it after a few seconds. It's under a little plastic flap on one side. Sorry, it's hard to explain.

HTH!

Sorry about that last post. There was an entire page of answers I didn't see! lol

I have (within the last hour!) become a Wii owner! :)

I have a question about the sports games though. Can someone tell me what specific sports are on both the disc that comes with the system as well as the Wii Play one?

Wii Sports has: Bowling, Tennis, Home run derby, Golf and Boxing.

Wii Play has very shallow versions of: Table tennis, Billiards, skeet shooting, laser hockey, Tanks!, Find Mii, Fishing and Charge! You can read a review here: http://wii.ign.com/articles/763/763835p1.html

Congrats on getting the system!!

Wii Zapper Announcedhttp://wii.ign.com/articles/803/803346p1.html

Highlites form the press conference to open the show (E3)...
9:02 a.m.: Lights dim. Show is about to begin. Bozon is crying like a little girl and clutching his hands.

"These videogamers are all alike..." says an opening. Didn't catch it all, but we think the point is to show how different Wii is. Montage of stuff. Fan-made Mario video. Someone talking about N65. News person chats about DS. DS scrolls on two screens to the left and right of the center. Montage continues. Newspaper articles. Basically, the whole thing is showcasing how all the media whoring DS and Wii have received. The piece is well-edited, we'll give them that. Nintendo fans in the auditorium applaud.

"My name is Reggie, and I am happy," says Reggie. "To us, today is more than a press conference and a business meeting. We see today as a celebration. And by that, I don't mean just a celebration for Nintendo, but for all of us. Because we think this E3 marks a turning point..." Mor

9:07 a.m.: 18-24 audience has more than doubled. Reggie calls this type of growth "unprecedented."

Talking female gamers. For everybody except Nintendo, it's an 80/20 split, 80% being men, of course. For Nintendo, though, it's 67% men and 33% women. "This, too, is driving Nintendo's business. In fact, the Nintendo DS may be the beacon that's lighting the way to the future of the entire gaming industry."

9:15 a.m. Says developers are taking notice. Between now and the holidays, NA players can expect another 140 titles for the DS and another 100 games for Wii.

9:20 a.m. Introduces the Wii zapper. Sweet new gun mode. Nunchuk rests on back. Wii remote up front. Quasi-shotgun design. Works with Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles. Will package Wii Zapper this year along with a new Nintendo game made for the device. Retail price: $19.99.

9:25 a.m.: Talks about Soulcalibur Legends for Wii, WWE for Wii and Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword for DS. Talks about Square Enix's Dragon Quest Swords. "You'll be playing this new Dragon Quest early next year," he says.
Now mentions Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games. Shows footage of Mario and Sonic sprinting. Looks good.

Leads into Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Mentions the different controller options. "The Smash comunnity is stoked, but when? Not next year. Not next spring. I can announce today that Smash Bros. Brawl will launch in the Americas on December 3."

9:28 a.m.: Well, maybe not so much in regard to new video footage. Reggie is back on stage. He invites "Mike" and Bill Trinen to the stage to demonstrate The Legend of Zelda: Phantam Hourglass. Now we can stop whining.

9:31 a.m. Metroid Prime 3 demo! We are in love.

9:38 a.m.: WiiWare. Says it'll begin next year. "And today, I can announce a new channel. One devotes specifically to the phenomenon known as Miis. Called Check Mii Out, it's all about creating and showing off Miis. There will be contests based on this functionality, etc."

9:40 a.m.: Square's DQM: Joker will go online with Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.

Guitar Hero 3 Legends of Wii means that "you can now walk into the Wii hours," says Reggie.

"All of this should at least suggest that we're serious about letting you show your stuff online."

Mario Kart for Wii goes online in the first quarter of next year! "This is not your father's Mario Kart." Online multiplayer battle mode, too. "We also think more racers means more fun. How many more? Well, stay tuned."

Shows off custom Wii wheel that will debut with Mario Kart for Wii. Pretty awesome? Yes.

9:55 a.m.: Reggie's back. Brain Age 2 will be here on August 2. Now he's talking about Super Mario Galaxy. "In one sense, this is the first worthy successor to Super Mario 64, with varying degrees of gravity and the odd sensation of running upside-down on a planet. We believe this sets the new gold standard. " Mario is dressed like a bumblebee and flying around in gameplay footage. Sweet. Some of the levels shown remind us of the bonus stages from Sunshine, which were cool. Sunshine hits November 12 in the US. Awesome.

10:00 a.m.: Where is Miyamoto? Show us this crazy new game. (Can't stop thinking about Mario in the bee costume. This will haunt our dreams until we play Galaxy.)

"The last game we're featuring today takes our big league in audience expansion and effectively laps the field."

Wii Fit is introduced.

It's a scale-like device. Have to balance in the different zones. Holy sweet Jebus, yes, this is pretty much exactly what Nintendo needed! People are doing push-ups on the device. Yoga. Dancing. This is so rockin'! This single game will sell 200 billion copies. Soccer demo. You have to lean forward and head-butt balls as they fly toward you. Dancing game.

Body mass index shown for the game. It measures all sorts of data, obviously.

Thsi is going to rule the mainstream. Expect to read a ga-trillion articles about this in the media over the next six months. There are more than 40 activities in the game. Big round of applause for the demo.

10:17 a.m.: Show is over.

WHEW.....man that was a lot of work, and frankly I only touched on a few of the BIG announcements form the conference! I skipped right over Soul Caliber Ledgeds, Madden 08, Fifa 08,NBA 08, My Sims,EA PLayground, and much much more! Sorry there's just to much to post...but please go to http://www.ign.comfor tons of info, pictures and videos!

You can also get info on Nintendo DS announcments form the show(or x-360 or ps3 if ya have one!)

I'll put my thoughts in the next post.

Before I go into the E3 news, I never updated about Harry Potter. I'm having a blast with the game. Repario, and levicorpis are a blast. The graphics are pretty good (not the best, not the worst) but the game play of useing the wiimote and nunchuck to do spells is fantastic. I have a feeling that the game is a little on the short side as I've only played for about 2 hours and am 21% complete. My one complaint would be the lack of any real action. For the most part it's a fetch quest to go find items and solve puzzles. Not that this is bad, but I would enjoy a few more Duel opportunities. ona 1-10 scale I'd rate it a 7...close to perfect but just a little off.

Now onto E3!

1) Getting dates for MArio and Smash is great...Know I know how much I gotta save in each month.

2) The Zapper has me sold..I love light gun games like classic duck hunt, house of the dead, ect. So i've been waiting for this. The fact that it will come with a game for $20.00 is awesome!((wonder if we'll get a real duck hunt game for it?))

3) Mario Galaxy looks fantastic and I simply can not wait to get my hands on it.

4) Mario Kart early next year (between Jan-April) thats sooner then I expected..and with online play no less...I love playing Mario Kart Ds online...this will be 10x's better!

5)Smash Brothers...I was a little dissapointed. The game looks good and like loads of fun, but no new announcments on playable characters or how it will play online.

6) Last comment for now....Wii FIT! At first I wasn't sure then as i watched more I pumped to get in shape useing my Wii! 40 mini games/routines will come with the balancepad (I'm guessing about $60.00 for the set)..I can't really explain why I like it just do...read for yourself about it and decide.

You're right the mario bee suit is totally awesome.

I'm excited. I feel like there are a lot more games I'm interested in than I expected, definitely more than the GC ever had at an E3.

So how does everyone feel about Wii Fit?

Oh MASTER wii GURUS!

I have 2 questions.

1) My Friend has Wii. Both of us are hooked up to wifi in our homes. Someone told me that we can play a game together, each in our own house at the same time. Is this true??????

2) Anybody play the new Harry Potter Wii game????

Still  the Wii!:cool1: :lmao: :goodvibes

Well, I personally know 3 people who are jumping up and down in excitement about the new Smash Brothers game! (I am not since I stink at the Melee version.) The Mario Galaxy looks cool. I am glad to read there are SO many new titles going to be released for the Wii as well as DS. It looks like we will have a gamers Christmas this year! :thumbsup2

The WiiFit is an interesting concept and I look forward to hearing/seeing more about it before deciding if it is a Must Have. The zapper sounds cool (anything that makes the controller easier for me to use!) but we don't have any T games in the house so it doesn't look like we will have the games that utilize it.

1) I think the answer is not yet, but it will be yes in the very near future. I may be wrong though. I'm pretty sure you can do it with the pokemon game and I think that's out now. I know for sure you'll be able to do it with Mario Kart, which will be awesome. I know there are some third party develop--Oh yeah MADDEN!! Madden will be online playable when it releases. DH is super excited. And Madden will have a new "family" mode which makes it super easy for the wife or kiddies to pick it up and play against dad. (I like to call it "stupid wife mode")

This feature will be expanded big time in the future. Just make sure you and your friend trade "friend codes" so that you can play together. I think I have those instructions in the FAQ in the first post.

2) Yes, DH gave a review a few posts back. We really like it! It's so fun to do motions for the spells and using the Marauders Map is really cool. I think it's a very accessible game for younger gamers too. Though, like the book and movie, it's very dark. A few of my patrons (children's librarian) have it too and kids and parents really enjoy it!

There's a few other third party games that DH and I heard about on G4 last night that look really cool. We'll post some info about those soon!

Actually, we're all pretty sure that the zapper, which is releasing for $19.99 WITH A GAME, is going to come with something like the old Duck Hunt game. I wouldn't be surprised if it has a couple different mini games like duck hunt or a rail shooter like some of the Rayman levels.

I think because this is Nintendo, there's no way that they won't release something utilizing it that is more family friendly.

So there is hope yet! And I doubt you'll be the only family having a "very merry Nintendo Christmas" this year! So buy the stuff when it releases or preorder it just in case!

One more thing. One of the Nintendo big-wigs said that Wiis would probably continue to be scarce through the holidays, so if you want one, start looking now!

Thank You! :flower3:

I got my Wii!! Now my DH will get his birthday present! Although, it wasn't really a surprise since I told him to stop by stores to check for it! It's a lot easier for him to get out then me! He found one at Walmart. It's actually the third or fourth time he's seen them at the same store, he just didn't realize he would be allowed to get one!:cool1:
