Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

I am trying to choose between Madden 08 and Mario Strikers for a new game for my boys. They don't play Strikers much on the GC so not sure that would be the way to go, they (or at least one of them) loves Madden games but I would want something they both like. They did mention some new circus game or something like that, will have to go search on line for what that is.

When I was at our local Target this past Sunday, they had at least 6 new Wii's in stock, so maybe they'll start showing up in the stores for those still looking for one.

Okay, I know you've told me, but how old are the boys? Did they get Madden 07 for the Wii (the old one)? I don't know much about Strikers, but as they didn't play the old one. I would read the reviews for it. If it has enough interactivity it might fell like a totally different game.

The only circus thing I know of is Mario Party 8, which has an overall circus theme...I'll do some research for ya.

First, :worship:

What will I need if I want to get the new Dance Dance Revolution that is coming out?

Where do you buy your Wii stuff. This is so expensive. I guess I have to read through the threads to see what I even need:scared1:

Thanks!

No need to read through the thread. Just tell us want you want and we'll tell ya what you need. Reading though the thread is good for game reccomendations, but other than that, we don't mind answering that type of question over and over...actually we'll answer anything over and over again. We don't care! lol

You just need a Wii for DDR. The game will come bundled with the dance pad.

We usually get our stuff from Best Buy. DH has the free rewards card. A couple of weeks ago we got $10 off when we bought Madden and Heroes of Mana (DS), it was a special internet coupon I think he got in his email. We just check the ads on Sunday and see who's price is lowest for the games released on Tuesday. There's rarely a difference though.

Be thankful you're buying Wii products and not the other systems. The games cost $10 more each and there is so much more to add to the systems. Yuck.

BTW, I'll make sure DH (THK) comes on to look this over tonight. he's so much better at keeping up with the news than me.

He started Fulltime teaching this week, so he's been kinda exhasted.

I bet they're talking about Carnival Games!

Here: http://wii.ign.com/objects/908/908180.html

It's only $39.99 for a reason. It's basically another mini game thing like Wii Play. Did they get Mario Party? It has a bunch of mini games they can play together or seperately. I really like it. Not very sporty though.

DH really likes Madden, especially since you can play people from all over the world over the internet connection.

DS-LITE Question.
My ds9 got one for Christmas last year. The color now comes and goes and is sometimes squiggly. The games work on his sisters, so it is not the games. Please tell me this is something that can be fixed.

Carnival Games is exactly what they were talking about! I searched and searched for circus with wii and couldn't find anything, then I happened upon new releases, saw Carnival games, looked at it and that is what they were talking about. Looks like a good game to play with friends etc.

We have Madden 07 for GC not the Wii. I know my oldest (11 going on about 16) is very into all the Madden games, NBA games, FIFA etc, the younger one (9 but going on a teen something too) likes them all too but not as much and he plays more other games. I don't think my boys will be into the online play much so do you think they will still like it? And yes we did get MP8.

Thank you so much for letting me know that I wouldn't have to keep the game, lie to the video store say it was lost and pay for the "lost" disc just to keep our scores.

I wanted to keep my game just as much as the girls - I had worked so hard and come so far.

I am sure most gamers would have known - but we are so new to this - thanks for not making fun of me;)

I appreiciate the help

Man going back to work after a few months off is rough!

Anyway lest see if i can add to/answer these questions a little better.

Ahh Madden or Strikers....that's a fun question. a few things to help decided..
1) Are the bigger Football or football(soccer) fan's? (no i'm not european..just thought i'd be funny and call it football with a lowercase f..since i an NOT a soccer fan at all)
2) Do they like simulation style play (aka like real life play calling, playing games that would not allow you to do anything surreal?)--madden
or like over the top arcade/surreal action(supermove's and crazy firball shots)--Strikers.

I'm a much bigger madden fan (as it has great single player and multiplayer features)

Strikers while having single and mutiplayer from my understanding of those that have it and play it is a pretty boreing single player..but a blast with a couple of players.

Both games have online ranked(keeps track of your stats) and unranked play.

Strikers playes pretty easy

Madden can be a hard game to master but EA has introduced easy play (or as the dw calls it...dumb wife play) where you do some of the simple motions, but the computer moves yoru players for you.

Hopefully this helps you make a choice.

SOunds like a possible loose wire (or lcd problem)...Being less then a year old I think almost all of the repair cost (if not all of it) may still be paid for by nintendo it self. call thier 1-800 number(found int eh instruction booklet for the ds or any ds game---also online at nintendo.com)
They can perhaps tell you somethign to try before they may send you a box to send it in for repair.

I have never had to send in a system to them, but have called and they have always been the best. a few peopel on here have sent things in for repair and i have only heard positive things about their service.

And who better to fix it or help you then thouse that make it!

NO problem(form harleys husband)...but now i'm gonna make fun of you! bwahahahahahah..

To let you know (from the tech geek in me)In case you actually want to know...the games are saved on the wii's internal flash memory(512mb) it is impossible to save a game on a wii disc as the wii does not have burner capability(no system does) think of it as a dvd drive on the computer not a dvd burner.

not that any of what i said is really that important, but the tech geek in me couldn't help explain better then the DW.

Thanks for asking because I did not know either:surfweb: Now you have two people to laugh at.:rotfl:

First - thank you so much for helping all of us out!! :grouphug:
Wii just got our Wii over the wiikend!! Wii got it with Wii Sports and then wii got Mario Party 8 and Super Swing Golf (because wii loved the Wii golf Sports so much!)
Okay - I'll stop with the we/Wii reference!! :rotfl:

My DS wanted Paper Mario - but my DH played it at the store and said it wasn't that great. I really want Carnival Games - it looks awesome!

My DD/DS mentioned something like they can use their DS as a controller? Are they crazy?

Paper Mario is AWESOME!! But you have to like longer, more involved games in order to enjoy it. Maybe your DH would like Zelda?

I don't think there are any games yet that let you use the DS as a controll, but there will be. I'm sure DH has more info about that.

Congrats on the new system!

Looks like DH missed you, so I'll tackle this one! (Get it, tackle!?) Anyway, the great thing about the new Madden is the Family play option. I like to call it the "stupid wife" option, but it's great for kids too. It's basically a dumbed down version of Madden. So if maybe the younger one starts this way, he'll gain confidence and like playing it more. Also the family mode lets mom and everyone else get involved too.

That said, they'll probably enjoy Strikers too...but if they didn't play the first one too much, I say go with Madden, pointing out these features to the younger one. Maybe play it with him and let him beat you a few times. I'd rather you have a game that at least the older one will play a lot than get one that neither of them might play after a couple of weeks.
HTH!

There is only 1 game that uses the ds as a controler and that is pokemon (you also need the ds pokemon game for this to work)

So they are not completely crazy.

Paper mario is a much more involved and indepth game then any of the others you are talking about. so If you kids can read well(ton's to read in paper mrio) and like long indepth games they may enjoy it, but it is not a motion happy game.

and congrats...lots of cool stuff comming soon to lockforward to.

It seems a lot of people on here anjoy wiisports, wii play and think carnival games looks fun...if those are games you enjoy be sure to look at IGN.com for info on EA's Playground it looks to be a great game this winter. with dodgeball, remotecontrol cars, teatherball, and other playground games we all played as kids at recess!

:p And it's the "The Derek Zoolander School for Kids That Can't Read Good and Want to Learn To Do Other Things Good, Too." So :p

We just bought Carnival Games on Monday and it is soooo much fun!!!

Has anyone bought a WII bundle from Walmart? I am just curious if it rings up as one SKU or if each game comes up individually. I might order a bundle but there are a couple of games in there that we may not want so wondering if I could return those games for something else. Anyone know?

The games in the bundle are Zelda, Monkeyball, Sonic, Cars, & Warioware? Are these all appropriate for a 6 yr old? I do not know anything about Zelda but it is rated Teen. Thanks for your help.

for lazy people like myself PLEASE oh PLEASE Wii-Wizard? I've made it through about 10 pages but my eyes are watering and my head is fuzzy.

I think I understand from your info that for my family of 5 who has no game system unless you count V-smile & Leapster....sad but true....we should get the console; and wii-motes & nunchucks not the controllers [unless they come out with new games needing them or we get old gamecube games]....but would 2 remotes and nunchucks be enough or do we need 4 or 5 of each...yikes? Also I think I'm ok not to get a memory card for now.

Obviously it comes with wii-sports but I want to be able to purchase 2-3 games in addition...

it is so darn expensive!! yikkos.

Thanks for the help!!

Trish
