Coach Charles (or anyone else), I have a question for you:
"How much of your fitness do you lose in the weeks following a Full Marathon?"
I ran the Chicago Marathon on Oct 7th. The first week afterwards I put in 7 miles (one 3 mile walk, one 4.3 mile run) and mostly just rested. The second week, I ran 15.3 miles. Last week, I ran 23.5 miles (I did my usual speed work, easy run, and tempo run followed by a Long Run on the weekend). Everything feels good, no pain or anything.
In those three weeks after the marathon, do you lose that much marathon level fitness because you have reduced your weekly mileage below the 'peak' pre-marathon mileage weeks (30-25 miles/week)?
I am running a Half Marathon on Saturday, and while I am not at all worried about being able to finish, I am just curious about your experience with post-Marathon recovery/fitness when working towards the 'next' race (in my case Goofy).
