I did my first ever more than 13.1 mile run--15 miles! at 14.90 my garmin battery died but I kept a steady pace, never stopped running, and was so proud of myself and thought I did great, ended feeling strong-ish (okay not like death)...

...then I went into my apartment saw the stairs, my head dropped, shook it, and I just thought, "son of a ....!"

Seriously, DH and I were "fighting" over who would go down the stairs to the basement to get a game for the kids!

Excellent job! I did 15 miles today too. I took it easy on my walk run. Sub 13.5 mm but my phone died somewhere in mile 12, so my app tracking my pace died along with it. But I feel better at least than when I ran two weeks ago at a half marathon. Still cannot imagine running 26.2, but in 10 weeks it may be possible.

On to my question....to those of you who have done the WDW Marathon weekend before:

My flight from Seattle arrives into Orlando at approx 5:30 p.m. on Thursday night. We were thinking of taking Magical Express to our hotel, AoA and relax the rest of the evening.

However, I would love to be able to get to the Expo on Thursday night if possible.

I was wondering, do you think it would be possible, if we took a cab from the airport directly to the Expo on Thursday night would we be able to make it to the expo, pick up my bib, my shirt/goodie bag, my sis's chear squad stuff, and our race retreat stuff by the 7 p.m. Expo close?

I do not want to do any shopping or attend any seminars, just pick up our stuff and head to our hotel to check in, how strict is the 7 p.m. close time?
Is that when they stop letting people in, or everything shuts down?

Any info would help, thanks!

The answer is – it depends. Generally, plan on at least an hour from your plane seat to the WWoS – assuming no delays and not waiting on checked bags. So if your flight is a little late, you miss a tram at the airport, a cabbie is not waiting at a stand you will be a little later arriving at the WWoS. If you can get to the HP Pavilion by 7, you should be able to get in and grab your stuff. I have been at the expo at closing once or twice through the years and the closing time those days was not a firm time… though I was there prior to the time by a few moments.

I know this is not a firm yes or no but there are a lot of variables. If it were me, I would plan on DME and hitting the expo first thing the next morning just to prevent being rushed.

Like Maura said... Just let this week go and try to stay on schedule. Cramming can lead to injury. If you are unable to get out this week, consider taking the 3 weeks out of the Galloway plan that looped you up into the 26 mile long run.

Stay safe and hope things settle down soon... Been through tropical messes too many times to count. I know it seems like no one cares, but I know you have millions of Gulf Coasters praying for a quick recovery.

Thanks for the advice, I went out and ran this morning, and ran a great pace with little effort. I think the cold wind had something to do with it!

And thank you all for the well wishes. Life is slowly going back to normal, so I can focus back on my training!

Yeah but now I'm running in the dark at 6pm! This will make the weekend run all the more special, I guess...?

I just went to Walmart and bought a reflective vest because I realized that. Plus, the light at 6 AM should stop in about 2 weeks anyway. Winter sucks.

Just when I think trash about winter, I see the lack of humidity and think, okay, I still love ya...

Question for former first timers: how do you pace yourselves for long runs? I did my first 15 mile run this weekend and averaged 12 min/mile (in the 11:45-12:15 range) which was the average for my last 1/2. I felt okay, I mean, I was moving forward and my last mile was my second fastest, but now I'm officially in uncharted territory.
And as a funny side story, I asked a local running group what their pace was for the Saturday long run. He said, "Oh, you know, 7 min/mile usually but then we also have people who do a more leisurely 11 minute mile." As I got to mile 14, there was most certainly nothing "leisurely" about how I felt.

Has anyone heard how many runners will be in the full marathon and goofy this year? If not, any guesses?

Registration can be hard to tell, because they don't always publish it. Last year:

Goofy: just under 6,000 finishers
Marathon: 13,500 finishers (including Goofy)
Half Marathon: 22,500 finishers (including Goofy)

Sandy hit us hard at the Jersey Shore so my training was hard this week. I did two short runs but my 15 miler became 8 because it was unsafe to run. I will try again next weekend!
I wearing Sparkle Skirts, Jasmine for the 5k and Tink for the Marathon. Nothing super fancy, just a little sparkle :)
Congrats on all the PRs! I am running the 10k at the Trenton Half this weekend, should be a fun diversion

First, Congratulations to everyone who did their long runs and PR'd this weekend. I admire your dedication, I am doing the Half this year and have no plans to EVER run 20 miles, :rotfl:

Non-finishers, non-starters, and people who deferred to 2013. Not all 24k entrants show up for the race.

Wonder what happens with all the extra medals?

After being off for more than a week, I decided to test out my handy-dandy reflective vest this morning at 4 AM. I was coming up a hill with a bend, that unfortunately doesn't have a sidewalk, and I saw the lights but I guess they didn't see me until the last second. Talk about a curb hugger!!!! I would go to the gym and run but I do t want to spare the gas. I may have to rethink that! LOL

We are staying at Coronado Springs for the first time marathon weekend. Does anyone know which bus stop we will have to use Sunday morning? Wasn't sure if it was only a certain one.

While I haven't stayed there for marathon weekend, my assumption would be you will need to walk to El Centro to catch the bus...someone please correct me if I am wrong!

Nice PRs everyone! Both in time and distance. I think I mentioned earlier I was signed up to do Chicago's Hot Chocolate 15k yesterday but I sprained my ankle 9 days before. The pain had been gone for a while. I was able to salsa dance with my husband a few days before with no pain so even though I still had some swelling I decided to go with my friends and see what I could manage. I bought and wore an ankle brace to offer some support.

In our corrals my friend was trying to convince me to take the 5k turn when the courses separated. They were the same until about mile 3 when the 5k turns to the finish line. It provided a nice "out" for me. I was still being stubborn in the corral that I could.still.do the 15k but promised to listen to my body since this was my first run since my injury.

So at about half a mile in I knew there was no way I could do 15k that day. A minute later I had to stop running and ended up walking most of the rest of the 5k distance. Giving me my slowest 5k time ever. So I guess I got a PR too this weekend ;)

Given to volunteers? They don't order one for each entrant since they know that a) not everyone will show up, and b) of those that do, not all will finish. It must be an interesting calculation, one that Disney usually seems to get right. Houston, among others, has had several years of getting it wrong and running out of medals for the back-of-the-packers.
