Yes please. I may not walk the who,e thing, but finding a more efficient walking stride for walk breaks would be great!

I think it would be fabulous and help more of us!

OK. :thumbsup2

I will work on things tonight and come up with some tips that will hopefully be helpful. I'll open a new thread with the title, Faster Walking.

p.s. I will be checking with DW-Kathy, before I post to make sure I am making sense. Should be able to post tomorrow.

Try a Spartan Race! A little cheaper and timed, which I prefer over TM!

I am thinking about it. TM is getting over crowded and run run well. But unless its the Ultimate Spartan I hear they are not as hard. I'm sure ill be doing one sooner rather than later to determine for myself.

I think my favorite is the snot rocket! That is so me! I don't know why but my nose runs like a faucet when I run. :confused3

Hee hee. I cannot make my snot rocket go. Actually I don't think I've ever tried it. I worry about getting it all over myself. I have a training partner who's an expert ;-)

My favorite is the woman squatting. It took me a minute to figure out what was going on and then I laughed and laughed.

Lukily I have never had to squat in the woods. There are 2 parks in town with bathrooms that I try to work into my route for my long runs in case I have to go.

You'll usually see me wiping my nose on my sleeve. I need to get those wristbands for that purpose. By the end of my 10k last weekend, on a 40 degree day in Prospect Park, the bottom of my sleeve was crusted. Blech.

Did the Columbus Half Marathon today. Ran as far as I could then my knees started really hurting again so I had to mostly walk the rest. Finished with 2:40:47 which is a 9 minute improvement over my last time but I was hoping to do a little better since I have been doing pt for the last month. Has anyone been so hurt after the Disney race that you can't walk around the park later that day? I can't imagine not going to the park but I am hobbling pretty good now.

Ran the Columbus Marathon today too. Ugh. It was my 5th half and was the worst! I was so cold. I just wasn't comfortable the entire race. I think I went out too fast and then really slowed down at the end. And I just feel sore all over even my neck and arms which never get sore. I could not have run another mile which is scary because I'm training for the full in January. I'm gonna analyze this race and see what I can correct.

What were you dressed in?

There was chocolate at mile 11.5 and a huge Reese's peanut butter cup cookie and chocolate in a recovery bag at the finish. Reese's is also on the medal

Good for you!
I live in Lancaster. I just looked up the pacing requirements. There is no way I can do that one yet. Here I thought Disney was bad. I have time, so I will just keep plugging away at becoming a faster walker.

Having done both, I definitely do not agree that Spartan Races are not as hard. I think TM is more challenging mentally...will you jump into ice water/will you run through live wires, but not as challenging physically, especially since they emphasize the team aspect. With a Spartan Race, particularly the competitive heats, you do most of the obstacles by yourself (although I have occasionally had help) and if you do not complete an obstacle, you must do a 30 burpee penalty before you move on. 30 burpees are pretty easy when you just try to do them, but to do 30 in the middle of an 8-10 mile race is a whole other ball game, especially when you are watching your competitors pass you by while you are finishing them! When we did TM, there were tons of people just sort of walking, joking, etc...which is fine, but the fact that Spartan is a race just adds another dimension and another level of difficulty, KWIM? The obstacles are pretty difficult as well....for example, the 4 mile Spartan Sprint I did took 1:20, and I was the 3rd female to finish. Even though it was a "short" race, it took almost 3 times as long as other short races, such as Warrior Dash, etc....Anyway, that's just my $0.2!

Very good points. TM is a "team building" event. I'll have to fit the Spartan into my schedule. Though since I won't have obstacle help ill need to get in better shape first, or I'll be doing a lot o burpee's! I have good leg strength, but zero upper body and I'm slightly over weight to boot. So in thy aspect it would probably be much harder.

I did the Detroit half yesterday and with going over the bridge and through the tunnel to and from Canada my whole body is hurting today. I gave it all I could and finished in 2:00:28 and I can't help but think of how close I was to breaking 2 hours! It is 16 minutes faster than my first half which was the Wine and Dine last year so I can't complain too much.

With how I'm hobbling around today I'm going to try and take it easy for the half in January so I still can have fun in the parks. I'm not looking for a PR there.

They really are great events! Upper body is my weakness as well. I am already banking on burpees at the rope climb and probably the spear throw (I mean, really....a spear throw?). And I don't want you to get the wrong idea...people will help you and lots of people do them as a team, it's just that its a race rather than an event, ya know?

Congrats on a great race. I did the Freep Marathon in 2010 an while I thought the bridge was great (other than the construction which was still going on), I found the tunnel to be tough. It seemed to go on forever!

I Definitely like the race concept, I'm very competitive. I'll be doing some searching tonight to see if I can fit one in my schedule.
