Official Tinker Bell Half Marathon Check-In ** May 5-8, 2016 ** 5th Anniversary

I'll raise my hand and say that I'm super bummed. Ariel is my second favorite Disney princess behind Belle and I know they're not likely to do a Belle-themed race next year when I finally CAN participate in the glass slipper challenge.

As for training, I managed to go from the 5K straight to half marathon - so the next half marathon is next weekend in New Orleans with Rock n Roll. Then I'm off to DC and Dallas in March for those races. I feel like the Tink 10k will be a breeze when it gets here with the stamina I'm gaining from these half races.
You never know, they might do Belle. They've had Cinderella, Frozen and now LM, so you might get lucky next year. :goodvibes
Ooohhh! RnR Nola!!! You have to come back and give a report on it! I did an early version of that one right before RnR took it over, but we did the back part of the now marathon course, going from the Super Dome to City Park and back, not the gorgeous Garden District. Soo jealous! I'm going out next month for the Crescent City Classic and cannot wait to get out there again.

I did 8 miles last weekend. I have RnR SF the first weekend of April. So between now and want to get in a 10 and an 11 miler which is pretty doable. After that I'll be set for Tink. I'll do some lower mileage weekend runs and probably another 8 miler before Tink and call it good.

Good luck with your RNR race. I opted to bounce out of SF and do the Carlsbad 5000 20K race instead. The course scared me - all of those hills... I figure doing 18 races was good enough for Hall of Fame.

You're going to do awesome, though. :)

does anyone who has run this race before, know where as spectators we are allowed to stand/ watch from. I tried to register myself and daughter as volunteers for the 1/2 but it literally filled up in less than 15mins, and only managed a waitlist spot, so in the case we don't get spots I'm just wondering, as we have friends running the half, It looks like the race finishes up on the parking lot next to Katella, can we see them from there and watch from there?

There are many locations to watch. The event guide has a spectator page with suggested locations. There is room close to the finish line but how good of a spot depends on how early you get there.

It's been a while since I've checked in here. My friend who convinced me to do the half is now injured and not able to run. Her family and mine are still going for the trip but I'll be running it on my own. She is going to suspend her entry till next year. My training has been going okay. Did 8 miles this weekend. 10 km is the longest I've ever done before. Didn't believe I could do 8 miles even while running it. Tried not to worry about my pace, I just wanted to finish it. The weather has been freakily warm so I was able to run outside. Hope everyone else's training is going well.

My husband found lots of fun spots last year. The easiest was the walkway between the two parks as you run between them. He did that for the 10K and half last year. The roads on the half are easy to see the runners.

So just finished Glass Slipper and on to Pixie Dust! Pink C2C here I come! How do others keep trained up between the races?

Don't stress about running by yourself. There are plenty of spots to see your family and have them cheer you on. Good job on your 8 miles this weekend. Just keep your training up and with the excitement of the race you may go faster than you think you can. We've had nice weather too and I also did 8 miles at the track and feeling good today. No knee or foot pain....looking for wood to knock on.

Congrats on finishing your GSC !!!!

I think a lot of us either do other races and or just follow some sort of training program. I'm doing one of J. Galloway's program for Tink, the time goal one.

Ugh! Hill training, I need to start on that. :crazy2: I tried to find it on the RnR site but couldn't and emailed a couple of times, but no response; we get a shuttle out to the start from the finish right? I was going to get my parking spot but wanted to make sure 1st.

Like other mentioned, there's a ton of spots. From the parking lot if you can find a space (don't know how early it fills up) from DL Drive when we come out from DCA parking lot, if you want to watch from mile 11 or so and not the finish, we'll be on Harbor depending on course changes b/c of construction. Early on in the race, you can watch people along DL Drive, Ball Rd and Harbor. DTD along the promenade if we cross parks that way and depending again on course changes, all up DTD as we run down it and behind ESPN out to Walnut and downtown Anaheim.

Congrats on GSC! How was the weather? I usually take a week off, cut back the 1st week running again and then back into training.

Running 19 half marathons plus a slew of 5K and 10K courses through Rock n Roll :)
19!?! Did someone get the Tour Pass? ;) Why can't rD do that, I'd love that!

Thanks! Yea the course scares me too and I did it last year! I'm just hoping I don't kill my IT band. My goal is going to be to beat last years time which shouldn't be hard to do, and not get injured!

Yup last year they bussed us from the finish area over to the start in the morning.

Thanks!! GSC was really a lot of fun!

I figured that just jumping in was the right answer, after a down weekend that is! :-)

Now that princess is over I'm starting to think about what I should wear for Tink. Is anyone dressing up? Do most people?

I was also wondering if anyone had suggestions for something to do outside of DL while we are visiting? We are trying to plan a day or two away from DL and will have a rental car.

Speaking of planning a day away from DL. My family really wants to go into LA for a day. I'm thinking a bus tour but honestly haven't done any research yet. I'd be happy as pie to spend each day in the park. If anyone has any suggestions of where to start looking I'd appreciate it.

I'm dressing up. Smee for the 5k, Hook for the 10k and Tink-esque for the 1/2. A lot of people dress up for the races and lots and lots of wings.

W/ a car, there's a lot you can do. If you want to go low key and beachy, you can head over to Huntington Beach for the day. Gorgeous beach and a Main Street w/ lots of shops. You can head up to LA or Santa Monica (Beach and 3rd Street Promenade for shopping) or you could go bigger w/ the driving and head down to San Diego. It's about 1:45-2 hour drive depending on traffic; LA depending on the traffic can be b/w hour - 1:20. There's the Zoo, shopping, beaches, Sea World, a little ways before SD is the Animal Park and also Lego Land. If you want to stay in the general area, there's Knotts Berry Farm and the Angels (baseball) are home that weekend.

I'd check out Yelp or Trip Advisor; that way you can get some reviews and help in the right direction of what you're looking for. I know TMZ does a celebrity tour, but don't know what's entailed w/ it and if you like old movies and movie history, TCM does a LA tour, but not sure what that one is like either.

Since its the 5th Anniversary......For the 1/2 I might break out my light up Tink wings. It's been a couple of years since I ran with them. But first I need to find the "safe place" I put them.

For the family 5K....hoping DH will consider Cpt Hook or Smeed, the mousekeeter as Peter Pan, I'll wear the Tink wings. I am NOT creative with running costumes so I have NO idea how to do Hook or Smeed.

Doubt DH will dress up for 5K -- he will probably wear his star wars running shirt!
For the 10K i am going to be pink minnie mouse, i have a pink bow headband and its on the large side -- hope it stays on my head!
For the half, I am sticking with the tinkerbell color scheme -- re-using my green sparkle skirt and getting a new tank top, unsure of wings or not! it will depending on if I can find any at the dollar store!
