Official Tinker Bell Half Marathon Check-In ** May 5-8, 2016 ** 5th Anniversary

Sorry to hear that your back is really giving you trouble. Back issues are the worst!! Have you seen a chiropractor ?? I know it's not for everyone...but I swear by mine. Hope you back gets better soon.
What is the race that goes through the studio called?? That sounds like fun.
No chiro yet, I might get a massage this weekend to see how it goes.

The race is called Run to Remember; they have a few across the country and the medal for this one is a replica of the LAPD badge on one side and CHP on the other. 1st time running it, but so far completely impressed. If you're looking for a SoCal/non-rD race. Originally it was a 1/2 and 5 miler, and people doing the 5 miler were asking to lengthen it so they could go through Paramount too so they changed it to a 10k. I sent an email about 2 weeks ago asking if you could drop down in races and they not only responded right away I got another email on Sun asking if I wanted them to go ahead and drop down. At the expo on Sat, there's a free ( :scared1: !) kids race and activities for the kids from 10-2 at the expo!

Saw this on another thread and thought I'd post it here
I was just coming on here to post a pic too! :goodvibes Love the medals this year and cannot wait until race weekend! :hyper: Love the Skull Rock detail for the 5k and the color for the 10k & 1/2. Hope they keep the 10k color going forward b/c it breaks up all the gold and you can see the detail a little better.

Just saw these on fb and I'm already crossing my fingers/hoping they have some for Tink. I'm think a darker green (more flattering than light green ;)) w/ the Tink logo instead? And I really like the long reflective strip. 8165_10207890004666476_3033129198184709355_n.jpg

Thanks for the race info. Free kids race and activities....I'll have to check it out. Can't wait to hear all about it.

The medal is BEAUTIFUL !!!!!!! Love the colors on the 1/2 this year..... it's perfect. Counting the days !!!

Hey guys! If anyone's flying on SWA, check flight prices today. My Sun flight was the same, but Wed dropped and I was able to get some points back.

I'll be there for the half! Any recommendations on places to eat post race?

Are you looking for celebratory? If yes, then maybe Blue Bayou or Carthay Circle. You can drink in Carthay Circle. :drinking1In DTD there's Ralph Brennan's which does a nice brunch on Sundays.

Thank you @kim3339 I'll have to look into these menus! I like the idea of brunch because it sounds marginally fancier haha.

Ahhh those capris they'll have them at dark side and if they have Tink ones oh man. The W&D expo didn't leave me broke. These two might with stuff like that. Just take all my money Disney take it now.

Kim gave you some great suggestions. Don't forget to check out the resort hotels too, like Steakhouse 55 at the DL Hotel.
Just remember to make ALL dining reservations 60 days out...it's race weekend and Mothers Day so it's busy and Mom's don't want to cook on that day.

If you end up at Brennan's you have to try the Louisiana Lemonade, it is so incredibly delicious. I'm not really a mixed drink person, but would drink those all day long.

I keep forgetting it's Mother's Day. Didn't they do a special brunch either there or Goofy's last year?

Have you gone over to PPH for their buffet yet? I read about it, and have heard from people it's good, just haven't gone yet.

Would love to have a nice brunch on Mothers Day after completing all the races! Can anyone remember if this happened last year? If so any idea of prices etc?

It's funny, DH and Mouseketeer can NOT forget it's Mother's Day......I don't let them.:cheer2: Not sure about the brunch at Goofy....that doesn't sound good to me. Last year we ate at Blue Bayou for dinner. (surf & turf) Good food but it felt very rushed and all I wanted to do was have a nice relaxing meal after the races. Oh well...it was still good. Not sure where we are going to celebrate Mother's Day and race day but I think I would like to do some sort of brunch this year.

Yes, we have tried the dinner buffet at PPH. It was the first weekend after they started it and we thought it was good. Have not been back since...thinking about trying to fit it in sometime over Tink weekend. We always complain that there's not enough DL restaurants but always seem to run out of time to get to our favs. You should definitely give it a try. PPH breakfast buffet, I think is the best. Noise volume isn't bad for what it is and the food is good.

Jumping in here to say that I went to a chiro for the first time yesterday. My husband has been going for about a year now and swears by it too, so I figured I would give it a shot. My physical therapist feels that the lower leg issues I've been experiencing have been a result of weak hips. The chiro agreed. I'm super sore today, and going back to see him again tomorrow.

I've added yoga, cycling, and now the chiro into my training.

I decided to book a hotel for race weekend instead of staying with family. Even though family lives very close I figure it'll be easier and less stressful to walk a half a mile to Disney at 4:30AM than it would be to pack the car, drive over, find parking, etc. I figure the cost is well worth my sanity. Also, then I can return to the hotel room after the race to shower and rest.

What are your plans for the rest of the day? This is my first half marathon, so I'm unsure if I should try to hit the parks on race day or the next following the race. Right now, I'm leaning towards returning to the hotel after the race, icing/resting, showering, and then keeping it mellow with family and going to bed early. I could hit the parks on Monday... I know I'll be super sore, but I also know that my legs will need a workout anyways. My other option is to go before the race. We're planning to fly in Tuesday or Wednesday. I could go Wednesday or Thursday and still have Friday and Saturday as rest days.

Or I could go Wednesday and Thursday, or Thursday and Monday. :)

Thoughts?

My guesses for prices would be anywhere b/w $40-65. That seems to be their going rates for character stuff.

Post race, I usually go back to the room, take it easy for a little bit, shower, pack if I'm leaving that day, and then go into the parks. If you're not going into the parks that day, I'd either stroll through DTD or head over to the Garden Walk. Walking afterwards really helps w/ the soreness. Being your 1st race, it's hard to know what you'll be like post race, you could be sore, but you might not be and you might be able to eat or you might need to wait awhile. You could also be full of adrenaline need to burn off energy and just go out and enjoy the day. I still get that way after a full; I did NYC last Nov and while I was sore after the race, I couldn't sit still and was walking around the city and awake until 4am. :rotfl2:

If you only have a 2 day tix, I'd do Thur/Mon, b/c like you mentioned you won't be on your feet all day Fri and Mon it will be less crowded and you can wear your medal around the parks. But try not to nail down a specific set of plans if you can and just play it be ear to see how you feel. :goodvibes

OK, so seeing all the awesome merch for SW last weekend, I'm really hoping for some great things from Tink this year and a bigger hole in my pocket at the end of the day. Please, please, please. It will make up for how underwhelmed I am by the medal. I (personally) can't stand the added enamel on the spinner and I'm just sad that's all they did for an anniversary year.

Thanks for the information!

I'll stay flexible and see how the weekend goes. I have hypoglycemia, so I know I will need to eat soon after the race. I'll be fine with hitting the buffet back at the hotel. We're staying right across the street so I'm sure I'll get my DTD fix another day/night. Although... I wonder what time the churro cart in DTD opens.... hmm.

I'm so excited! 106 days to go!!

I hope the merchandise is good too. I really liked the jackets and shirts from last year...so I hope it's just as good or better. Really wish rD recognizes the runners who have done this since the beginning with at least something special. I remember for the 5th yr at Princess 1/2, all those perfect Princesses were recognized and got a tiara, sash and can't remember what else. I just thought it was great that they were recognized for 5 yrs running.

:scared1::scared1: Had a race nightmare last night....it was a superheroes and Tink race. Thor hammers and Tink wings don't work well on the race course. :earseek::scared1: I think I maybe training too much.:rotfl:

Not that it matters, b/c I'm an adult, but I was surprised by the kids medal; it's almost the exact same design as the 5k from '14! They just switched out Big Ben for the Jolly Roger. :sad2:

Supposedly they are. I asked a girl at another expo if they were and she said yes. I really liked the shirts they gave out last Sept for the DL 1/2; those were really nice.
