Official Tinker Bell Half Marathon 2012 thread

I am registered for Tinkerbell 1/2. I would also love to do the Princess 1/2 in Febrary for the coast to coast medal.

:wave2: Hi travlrmel! I would love to do both races for a coast to coast, too. If not 2012 then I will try for 2013.

:wave2: Hi cinabug! I think we might be neighbors -- I'm in Coeur d'Alene.

Yep. I'm all the way up in Metaline, if you know where that is. I go to Spokane to shop, but Coeur d'Alene is actually just about the same drive time. Howdy neighbor.

My sister and I are thinking about doing this. I guess we'll need to decide soon and make our reservations. I'd love to do both this one and the Princess 1/2, but I'm not sure that it will be doable, and I don't know that I can get 2 weekends off.

Hi all. This years Princess was my first ever 1/2. It was amazing. I loved it so much that I have signed up for the DLR 1/2 but now this one has been anounced and I wan to do it too. Has anyone ever done an inageral Disney run before? Were there any special things? I know that one of the women that was at the Princess said that she was going to get something for doing the Princess the first 5 years but I can't remember what.

I ran in full costume at the Princess. I wore a Snow White costume that I unzipped at times. I even pulled it down around my waist for a little while. Long sleeve white gloves ended up in my water belt. It was sooo hot but I have to admit there was at least one time when I was starting to walk and heard some stranger yell "Go Snow". It kept me going. I only did one training run in it and it was on my home treadmill. I loved running in costume but then again I was just looking to finish not be fast.

I already have my costume for the DLR 1/2 and it just happens to be Tink. How can I not run this one too?

I did the princess the first year. I think the only different thing is that the medal, race shirts and merch all say "inaugural" on them. I did notice that they are doing a Tinkerbell necklace. I haven't done the Princess since, but I think that's new, but that's a commemorative thing. They could add something later though. Also, if you're doing the 5K, a twilight admission ticket into the park is given to you, and that's a 1st.

Hi everyone
We been at the Disneyland Resort for the last few days and decided to "drive" the course. My findings and notes are (not including the parts through the park): it's mostly flat, run along freeway ( I - 5 ) then slight incline over I 5, through older residential neighborhood, towards down town, palm tree lined street, past library, heading out to more industrial part of town, then ending up with the same route from the DL 1/2 (after Angeles stadium).

I also found at DL a light up Tinker Bell wand. Maybe a pain to hold the entire time but it's cute. Also there is a light up Tinker Bell pin. I'm not doing a costume but I would like to add a little Tink to my outfit.

Hope this information helps :)

Vicki~ it's funny that you mentioned that you drove the course, I was looking at the map today too! I was trying to count the over/underpasses to see how many there were. I came up with 5, is this right?

1~underpass of DTD, 2~overpass right after, by the parking lot, 3~Ball ave, as we hit Mile 1, 4~on Harbor right by the HoJo, before we turn back into the park, and 5~I was thinking on Manchester before Mile 6.

Like the wand idea. If you're going to wear a fuel belt, you can always slide in there.

Kim....You're really close. Ball Road is on the other side of the 5. On the map where the corners of mile 1 and mile 8 meet on Ball and Harbor, it's actually much further out than it seems. It's on the other side of the 5 further from DL, near motels etc. (Hope that makes sense) To me it's a little misleading on the map. We thought it was actually closer to the park and that was going to be a spot for my DH and son to watch for me. But it's really away out. Also between mile 10 and 11 you go under the 5 in a long tunnel.
I should know this as often as we go down to DL...but after mile 3...going through DTD, it looks like we make a "right" and I'm trying to figure out exactly where that will be. I has to be near Rainforest and ESPN or closer to DL hotel.
I'm going to call and try and get more information where they are suggesting for the spectators to watch.
We are heading back down in a couple of weeks so I try and check it out again.
Great idea about sliding the wand in my belt.

Thanks for checking out the course and reporting back! It makes a big difference when someone can see these things and share! :flower3: :tink:

I saw that too. I was thinking the service road right after ESPN and before the DL Hotel, turning right in front of the hat. It's the same road we run down at the end of the DL 1/2. My thinking was through the road in the parking lot, near where they do the hourly parking for DTD, and then turning left on Magic Way? I never gone all the way down, maybe there's an exit onto Walnut at the end?

I think it must be something like that. I'll definately check it out when we're back down in a few weeks.

Another thing I didn't think about was the start time of the race and the time of the year. Being that it's going to be in January and we start at 5:45, we'll be in the dark for a good chunk of the race. Not dark, dark, we'll have street lights, but no sun.

I looked up average sunrise time for Anaheim in January. Looks like the sun should be up about 6:45 am. It does make for a cold start line though. Ick. I'll have to plan to wear layers..

How warm does it get? And is it humid at all? I've never been to CA. :)

It's very rare that we have humid temperature. I would suspect that the weather will be perfect for running in January but you never know. I'm running the DL half in September and the weather will probably be very warm so I would definitely prefer January weather.

It will be cold in the morning. But I would that have that than rain or the heat like we've had in prior years at the DL 1/2.

I think layering is the way to go. I'm going to have gloves too.

Gloves are definitely gonna be needed by me. Now I can add something to my Christmas list - running gloves that have magnets so I can clip to my running belt!!

If it is like at the other RunDisney races you can wear "throw away" clothes and discard them along the course. RunDisney washes them and donates them to charity. Robes at the start seem to be a popular item. Just make sure to wear your number on the layer you are keeping! :tink:

Hay ya All.

Well we are signed up the DH and I. The DD will be at the end cheering us on.
Started our program (after knee injury recovery) { If I got runners Knee does that mean I'm officially a Runner LOL}

We are Really excited and are ready for them to open up the registration for the Wine and Dine in Sept 2012.

Found some great apparel on the Disney.com so we are sportin "in training for the Disney Marathon" shirts as we train (still at a walk, but workin up to the run walk...soon soooon do not want to re-injure) :thumbsup2

So we are a mix of excited and terrified... : )

Anyone know where to get the apparel for the Tink marathon? all the stuff we found on the Disney site was for past marathons.

Anyway, training in SD in the warm spring sun.
