Hopefully in the next week or two. First time booking GTY and the wait is killing me!
Interesting thread! What I gather from skimming through it is that the majority of GTY cabins are assigned approx 60-50 days prior to sailing, and that upgrades are few and far between. Most people seem to be getting assigned the category they booked in which is fine.
I'm waiting on a GTY myself, for a sailing on the MAGIC late September. I'm guessing I'll have an assignment the first week of August based on the responses on this thread.
Thanks everyone for the great info!
#1. What category GTY cabin did you book?-7a
#2. What category and room # did you get?-4a deck 9 midship
#3. How many days before the cruise were you assigned your room?-41 days
#4. Are you happy with your assignment or do you feel like you got a "leftover"- undesirable room/? I don't think it could get any better. So happy
#5. If you booked more than one room, are they close together?-We booked two rooms and they are adjoining
#6 What ship are you sailing?-Fantasy
#7. What day of the week was you cabin assigned.-Monday early in morning
8. What time of day was your cabin assigned? Wasn't there Sunday night but was Monday morning
9. What month is your cruise?-August 30
WOOHOO
We are on the Magic 9/27. I'm a little nervous. All that was available with our discount at this time was a 9C. I have never sailed without out a verandah. I'm calling everyday trying to upgrade, but all that available in verandahs is rooms that sleep 3 or less. Keeping my fingers crossed for a decent room.
I'm on the same cruise, also in a 9C GTY. I'm not expecting anything but a 9C. I just hope the cabin assignment is not too far forward.
I've sailed many times in cabins without balconies. They are fine, and sometimes having a large window so close to the waterline can be pretty cool.
I would be happy with a forward cabin. I don't want to be under night club.

I couldn't hold out and wait for the GTY to be assigned so decided to upgrade myself to a 7C (Navigator's Verandah) and picked a cabin. I'm very happy with the location and hope I like the Navigator's Verandah. They look really cute with the nautical touches and small bench. My partner is actually afraid of heights so I think he will much prefer the more enclosed balcony. The waiting game is over for me at least.
