Official Thread For Upcoming Eastern Canadian Cruises

Don't know if this place has been added to the list, but their treats, especially their cupcakes are heavenly.

Thanks for letting us know! This will be added to our 'sweet treat' adventure...on the list: Freak Lunchbox, the ice cream place (Cow something?!), trying Beavertails (I think I have the name right?!) and now susie's shortbreads....though may need to knock Beavertails off the list....my daughter doesn't even know about the cruise yet but will love the sweet treat part of our day....I guess I should map it out in between the Maritime Museum and such!

I'm pretty sure that the tour wasn't any more than an hour. You are kept moving enough so that the kids should be ok.

Are you doing the tour as an excursion or on your own? I thought the excursion was for 21+ which leaves us out as my daughter will be 13.

But it seemed like fun and we have done so many other 'food place' tours that she has enjoyed I wonder if this is one that can be on your own (sans the sample at the end of course!!)

Oh definitely don't forget Cows ice cream. Their gift shop and cow inspired t's and other merchandise are a riot........and the ice cream is to die for.

Oh my, and to think we almost didn't know about this:dance3:!
The store is at 1589 Dresden Row, between Spring Garden and Sackville, closed on Mondays. We will be in port on a Tuesday (June 17 sailing) and on Tuesdays it is open from 10am - 5 pm. Sounds Good:woohoo::cloud9::banana:!

Hello all,
Getting more antsy as the cruise approaches. I see that while we will have Halifax all to ourselves. at St. John the Magic will be joined by the 3500 pass. Carnival Glory. In addition the Magic gets stuck with the secondary pier, called "long Wharf" on the maps that appears to be far away from the main dock so...:scared:
Question 1; Is this "long wharf" pier walking distance from the tourist area? and Question 2; Will St. john be overcrowded with that many people there? Thanks in advance for any answers

Hi, we are on your cruise, too!

I think that Saint John will be a hopping place but doubt crowded. Are you planning on doing any port excursions? I figure that we should either be happy wandering around and enjoying the activity, or book a tour in advance.

If you want, come on over to the cruise meet thread - lot's of great folks going to be on this cruise:cool1:!

There are street vendors near the across from the gates of the public gardens. Most any route that you follow from the ship to and around the gardens and the citadel, will leave you with a choice of somewhere to eat at just about any turn. If you come up Spring Garden Road, you will pass tons of stores and restaurants before getting to the gates of the gardens. You can (I think you still can) exit the back of the gardens and the Citadel will be more or less in front of you. The entrance won't be right there, but the hill will.

In your opinion, should we start at the Garden and Citadel and do the other things on the way back to the ship? I believe most everything on my list is just walking by it. I want to have sufficient time for the Gardens, Citadel and the Maritime museum.

My list of things I want to do
Maritime Museum
Gardens
Citadel
Navel clock
St Paul's church
Grand Parade
City Hall
Old town clock
Alexander Keith Brewery or the casino

I appreciate any advice

My DH and I are thinking about doing it on our own. But it's a toss between this and the Casino. I am leaning towards the brewery because we can do casinos at home. Even though I don't like beer, I thought my DH might be interested.

We just booked the Peggy's Cove and Titanic excursion. Since DW and myself love lobster we are wondering if there is the possibility to grab a cooked lobster like a lobster to go somewhere at Peggy's Coe or Halifax ?? :-) Just asking since our kids will hate us for eating lobster so we don't want to force them into a table seated restaurant ?!

If your top picks are the Gardens, Citadel and museum.....then I would head to the gardens first, then Citadel and then you have seen two of your picks. Not only that, but everything will be downhill after that when you will be more tired.

Have any of you been able to find a good city map online? I picked some up to leave with Kevin at the Welcome Center in May, but forgot them. I'm sure that I still have them and would be willing to mail them to anyone.

thanks for the answer to the overcrowding part. bumping to see if the pier we will be docking at is too far to walk?

Hopefully you'll get a better response to your question on this thread.

I dooubt it will be too over-crowded, as for the walk I am guessing no more than a kilometer. There are 2.5 kilometers in 1 mile. Thats calculated through google maps from the warf to the New Brunswick Museum. I suggest you call Disney to see if Bus service will be provided to get you to the usual departure point. On the plus side, the Harbour Passage trail goes by there. If you are worried about port adventures, I imagine Disney "reserves" a certain number of slots.

Thank you for your advice. I was thinking the same thing about everything being downhill if started at the Gardens. I might even take a taxi to the Garden:cool1:

For the adventures listed, Your 6 year old might enjoy whale of a time, while the 14 can check out the museum.

Both would enjoy the critters and creatures catch and release.

Maybe the Maple Sugar farm, the sap may have stopped running for the season, but i imagine that they have demo`s set up.

Irving nature park,

The river cruise on the paddle boat might be fun too.

Hi All,

Halifax weather for the last few weeks has been horrible! Cold and rainy. However, it is looking up for your arrival and I'm holding out hope that all of you get to experience our fine city in it's proper way. ;)

The cruise ships dock right outside my office window. My wife and I will be there with our Mickey hands to welcome the Magic to our home. :)

Have a great cruise everyone!

Chad J.
