Official Thread For Upcoming Eastern Canadian Cruises

Both Halifax and Saint John have a series of interconnecting inside walkways that tend to lead through several malls etc. In Saint John, the pedway runs from the Building housing the museum (on the left of the boat when you get off), all the way to the Market, which is at the top of a not steep but long hill.

I need to find a free webpage that I can post my list of weblinks related to this cruise. Everytime I try to post it on the Disboards it loses it's formating. The reason I mention this, is because there is a link to the tide predictions for the Bay of Fundy. If you go on the train which is a new port adventure this year, it would be nice to see the view of the Reversing Falls when the tide is coming in or going out, slack tide is well.......slack.

Well, looks like the tides are against us for seeing Hopewell Rocks. Just talked to a very helpful employee at Hopewell Rocks. By the time we'd get up there, the window for walking on the sea floor would be closing. The next low tide is not until the evening. But she suggested the Fundy Parkway (she even looked up *their* tide tables), and I think that's where we'll go (and St Martin's too). The views from the Fundy Parkway look pretty amazing, and the sea caves at St Martin's look interesting as well. It would have been nice to have seen Hopewell Rocks, but I guess we'll just have to come back someday!

Thanks for the info about the walkways/pedway. It sounds like HongKong...indoor escalators/walkways keeping you cool going from one mall/train stop to the next!!

I just read the post after yours about the tides not being in our favor at Hopewell Rocks. Looks like the train might be the way we go!!

I have the Saint John and Haifax weather on my iphone so have been checking it out recently...looks similar to Boston, albeit cooler...which is a good thing!

taximom00 -- are you on the June 17 cruise? Make sure you check out the tides for your specific date, b/c I have found that they can vary greatly from day to day. And the tides further south (Fundy Trail/St Martins) are ~ half an hour different than those up at Hopewell. Also, the woman at the Fundy Trail told me that further south they aren't as affected by the tides as up at Hopewell. She said there was only one beach on the parkway that became completely inaccessible when the high tide was in.

We're on the July 8 cruise. Much as I want to see Hopewell Rocks and/or St Martin's caves, I'm not going to do it because we are traveling with my 78 year old mother and she really doesn't want to spend over an hour each way on a bus (or car).

So we are planning most likely on the rail tour which should allow us to see the Reversing Falls (hopefully while reversing!!) and then wander around the port.

I hate to put a damper on the first set of visitors, but for Saint John, it is going to be damp and cool, dress appropriately.

We've been watching the weather so we are prepared (well as best can be, but hoping for a warm front that week)!

Just 13 days til we sail. I am back to looking at the visitor guides. I was wondering if anyone has done the Alexander Keith's Brewery and what they thought of it? Trying to decide if we should add this to our list of things to do.
Thank you

Vicki

I am in the process of planning our walking route. I would like to be at the Citadel for noon. Are their any restaurants around the Citadel or the public gardens? Or should we eat before we get up that far?

It's fun and not that long. Kids may be board. Have fun!

I'm pretty sure that the tour wasn't any more than an hour. You are kept moving enough so that the kids should be ok.

There are street vendors near the across from the gates of the public gardens. Most any route that you follow from the ship to and around the gardens and the citadel, will leave you with a choice of somewhere to eat at just about any turn. If you come up Spring Garden Road, you will pass tons of stores and restaurants before getting to the gates of the gardens. You can (I think you still can) exit the back of the gardens and the Citadel will be more or less in front of you. The entrance won't be right there, but the hill will.
