Official Thread For Upcoming Eastern Canadian Cruises

I been reading the posts. Thank you all for the info. I have booked for the whale watching in Halifax but St. John, I am coming up with nothing! Any suggestions? I have a 14 year old and a 6 year old. Other than doing some walking around the town we have no clue. HELP????

Also 11 Days till we sail. YEA!!!!!:cool

We are going to do the Railway excursion in Saint John. It sounded different...something we'd never do at home. We live in Boston, so a lot of the excursions sounded like things we've done (whales, tidepools, maple syrup)

Figured this was a short excursion so will give us time to explore on our own as well.

I'm with my 78 year old mother and 13 year old daughter so finding things appealing to both is a challenge!

Did you check out the boat on the reversing falls? I forget the name but might be fun for your older one. Not sure if there is a younger age limit.

The maple syrup is fun...very cool to see trees being tapped and syrup boiled. But it is past sugaring season here so I wonder how they will do it there??

We are doing this:woohoo:! I reserved places online (maybe 2 months ago...), they were very nice to deal with. They say the participants must be at least 42 inches, and under age 12 accompanied by a parent. Disney also has an excursion with these jet boat rides, and a bus tour on the way to and from the reversing falls. It is a lot more $$, of course.

I read some great things at a Saint John cruise information site and wondered if some of them will apply to us even though we're docking at the Long Wharf as opposed to the terminal. For example:

Ships can dock at Pugsley A/B, right downtown with a covered cruise terminal for dispatching tours and the colourful Market Slip within a glimpse from the gangway! There are no line-ups for shuttle buses or lengthy waits for tenders from Pugsley A/B. Guests step off the gangway and into the heart of Uptown Saint John! Will this apply to us?

A warm smile and friendly greeting is waiting for each one of our thousands of guests! Our award-winning Meet and Greet committee is waiting for your guests, armed with maps, information, and a rose for each lady and pin for each gentleman! Will there be a group greeting us?

Your guests will be greeted by colourful displays with flags, banners, painted murals, and flower gardens, creating a wonderful atmosphere around the cruise terminal. This first impression of our city will make your guests yearn to discover more! Is the Long Wharf decorated too?

For the guests who wish to explore on their own, almost all of Saint John's top attractions are located within easy walking distance of Pugsley A/B. Other sites, such as the Reversing Falls Rapids or the Carleton Martello Tower, are a short and easily-accessible taxi ride away. Thoughts?

How sweet would it be to greeted by folks from Saint John?!! I don't want to get excited about something that only the Carnival folks will receive at the main terminal. :sad1:

Anyone have any insight?

I just talk to the tour guide we're using from Blue Nose Side Car Tours. She said Halifax is a buzz w/ talk of the Disney Magic. She said they will probably have the bagpipers & Royal Mounties & the works for the Magic's 1st arrival on next week's cruise. Can't wait.

I dooubt it will be too over-crowded, as for the walk I am guessing no more than a kilometer. There are 2.5 kilometers in 1 mile. Thats calculated through google maps from the warf to the New Brunswick Museum. I suggest you call Disney to see if Bus service will be provided to get you to the usual departure point. On the plus side, the Harbour Passage trail goes by there. If you are worried about port adventures, I imagine Disney "reserves" a certain number of slots.

There are 1.6 kilometers in a mile.

If you don't get the same greeting that they give to everyone else, I will personally drive down there and give the city council a piece of my mind,....not a big piece, apparently I have very little left as you can see from my math conversion skills in the above posts.

That being said, the long Warf is just over a Kilometer about a 10 min casual walk to the main terminal. I would think they would have something to transport you to the main terminal, or perhaps a welcome tent set up.......a big tent. Your best bet is to call disney cruise lines and see what they say. At the Long Warf you are actually closer to Reversing Falls and Martello Tower i think.

I hope they give all the ships a welcome like that!
We are on the July 8 cruise!!

We will not be there until September - I hope they are there to welcome us also :goodvibes.

Here's hoping that they will greet every cruise with great ceremony! I've read about the pipers (and have watched a performance on YouTube) but I hadn't heard about the Royal Mounties greeting ships. I would flip out! Fingers crossed!!! :yay:

I've never heard of Mounties greeting a ship unless they are there to arrest someone. bagpipers yes, Mounties no.

You are AWESOME!!!!!! Thank you for the info. Thats what we are going to do. Providing my hubby can walk! He just had knee surgery last week and his knee is still hurting him when he tries to walk. I might be doing adventures with the kids and leave the hubby on the ship!

For the adventures listed, Your 6 year old might enjoy whale of a time, while the 14 can check out the museum.

Both would enjoy the critters and creatures catch and release.

Maybe the Maple Sugar farm, the sap may have stopped running for the season, but i imagine that they have demo`s set up.

Irving nature park,

The river cruise on the paddle boat might be fun too.

This is good news for us - we are heading to the jet boat ride at the Reversing Falls:banana:! Are there any places to buy snacks along the Harbour Trail?

I loved this! Thanks for the laugh.

Bagpipers is very likely given that it's the first time the ship comes to our port and the fact that it's actually very typical.

See you all on Tuesday! :)

The weather is great here in Nova Scotia today. Hope all future cruisers are as fortunate as today's. pirate:
