Official Thread For Upcoming Eastern Canadian Cruises

As I understand it ... I think he might be referencing a busker? Not sure ... that would be a performer who may look like a statue ...
Only other time to not touch a statue would be after a seagull has done something to it. Otherwise have fun .... touch all the statues you want to!

Lol, NY and Atlantic city NJ, have those kind of statues.

Thanks for sharing! We did this trip 3 years ago on HAL and loved every minute of it except it wasn't Disney. I kept comparing the 2 cruise lines. Sure hope we can do it on Disney next Summer. We rented cars in both St. Johns and Halifax for about $40 a day - split between 2 couples. It was very reasonable and the car companies pick you up right at the dock and return you there too. In St. Johns we went to Bay of Fundy that you see in the Canada 360 film at Disneyworld - beautiful drive, great scenery, and great fish for lunch. The little houses, boats, and the bridge are exactly as they are pictured in the film. You want to pinch yourself that you are there in that beautiful place. The market and shops in St. Johns are also special and you can walk back to the ship with your bag of pastry from the market. The people are very friendly and the rose/pin are a very nice touch. It was the same in Halifax - we drove to Peggy's Cove (also Canada 360 film) and several other little towns - all very special. We enjoyed the Fort and had another great fish lunch. Plenty of time to see lots in both places. I agree PEI is too far away - wish Disney would add it if they sail to Canada again in 2013. PEI is my favorite. It is like living in the 1950s there - Anne of Green Gables is very interesting. Can't wait to hear about all the tips you'll be sharing with us. The BEST about this trip will be sailing up the river to see the Statue of Liberty and the New York Skyline - it is breathtaking, brings tears to your eyes and no one should miss this arrival. We docked next to the Intrepid and watched them muster for duty in the morning. I remember we ordered breakfast and ate on our veranda. Best morning I have ever had as we cruised into the city. I loved NYC!!!! :cheer2::cheer2:

Would you recommend port or starboard side for a veranda sailing from New York to Canada?
Thanks.

I've been brainstorming this, too, since I am working on my own magnet.

There are a few Disney characters that hail from Canada: Winnie the Pooh, Kenai, Koda, Rutt and Tuke. Winne is, and I think the others are, more of Western Canadians, though.

I don't know if folks associate their city with a particular lighthouse, but there are some unique ones to choose from:

May I please use the image of the Halifax lighthouse, for a FE project?

I don't think anyone here would have a problem with it. My only concern is if it is a copyrighted picture, but since you are not making money off of it, it should be ok.

Love to see your final project, after you gift them out FE!

Oh yes Rutt and Tuke might have come from this side of Canada, we have lots of moose here too, I think they got lost during a migration, that or they wanted to visit Banff.

We like collecting the Starbucks citY mugs....I saw that there are several Starbucks in Halifax and Saint John. Does anyone know If they sell mugs that say "Canada" (can't imagine they would have city-specific ones there!).

We walked a loooonnngg way in Ketchikan to find their lone Starbucks (inside a Safeway)! :rotfl:

Starbuck's are inside Chapter's bookstores in Both Halifax and Saint John. You will need to take a taxi or bus to get to one in either city. Google chapters stores for either one for their location. Don't know whether they have collectible mugs or not, I am a dedicated king cole tea drinker myself.

We will have a car in Saint John, and will be doing the Hop on Hop Off excursion in Halifax.

Chapter's...good to know. It's not always easy to figure out from the website if it's a stand alone store or not. (we hadn't realized the one in Alaska was in a Safeway until we trudged a mile plus to it).

Is King Cole a shop?

Are there other Canadian coffee shops we should visit (apparently there's actually a Tim Horton's just across the water from us in Norfolk, VA, so anything different that you can suggest to a couple of coffee drinkers?)

King Cole is just a brand of tea, made in New Brunswick. Their claim to fame was gauze tea bags, but with the world economic crisis, the supply became limited and they use paper now. It would be interesting to see if there is a difference between Tim Horton's in the States and here. Oh yes the Chapter's in Saint John is actually called Indigo's. It does have a Starbuck's in it.

I can't tell a difference in the Canadian and US Tim Horton's - love them both.

King Cole tea bags, a name to remember. Is there any place close to the port where it can be purchased?

There's a Starbucks in the Marriott Halifax Harbourfront located at 1919 Upper Water St, Halifax, NS. Wondering if this is a full service Starbucks or just a kiosk type store. :confused3 I'm hoping to buy a coffee mug there.

ETA: There's also a Starbucks located at 5201 Duke St, Halifax, NS.

Any grocery store, would have it, likely any corner variety store might too.

We are going on the 17th of June trip. YAY!!!! A few questions. What the weather like? Is it short or jeans weather?

We booked the excursion in New Brunswick for the tea with alice. Im thinking of canceling because its 7 hours long. Hubby will have surgery on his knee this week and will not want to be standing on his feet for very long. Can someone give us some help on what to do in New Brunswick?
We have 2 kids 14 and 6. Its tough picking. We love history but the kids will find it boring. What would be great for the kids?

Also we signed up for the whale watching in Halifax. Would the water be rough for this?

Thanks for helping me. It so confusing. I am OCD when planning everything out and its bugging me that I don't have a set plan. LOL:woohoo:

Although today was cool, about 68, I walked in shorts and a golf shirt to school today to get my son. The weather usually has been beautiful, definately shorts weather. It tends to be cooler along the coast, though so my suggestion is bring some jeans and shorts, Disney can't control the weather completely. You could probably get away with a pair of shorts and a light jacket for the most part. Look up a few posts above, I have linked the weather channel reports for both Halifax and Saint John.

I can't speak for whale watching out of Halifax, we have always gone in the bay of fundy.

The tea is likely 7 hours including travel time on a bus, its a fair distance, Kingbrae garden is a beautiful victorian botanical garden. St Andrews itself is facinating and quant. In Saint john, the museum is close by, and my son loved it at 6. There is also a pedway that will get you up to the market, so your husband can explore without too much effort as it has escalators and elevators. Conversely, you could do whale watching in Saint john, and something else in Halifax. A lot of the nature activities would be great for the kids, but maybe too much for you husbands knee.

Hope that helped.

What is the pedway to the market that you mention above?? I haven't read about this anywhere...

I'm still unplanned for Saint John....though the railway is on our most likely list. Really, we want to see the Reversing Falls. Have been reading the Saint John magazine I got in the mail though as you point out, it's not as 'flashy' as the Halifax ones! Also makes me realize I need a week there to visit, not a day!!
