Official Thread for Universal's Halloween Horror Nights 21 (Updated 10/26, post #251)

i don't think it would fly for universal's hhn.

it would take up an entire house, take away scareactors from other sites.

it would have to be expensive to cover the additional costs to man it.

i don't see it getting enough 'business' to make it financially worth it.

people don't want to pay the extra add ons unecessarily.
once you factor in the room costs, transportation to orlando, hhn tix, express pass, food, booze, souveniers, parking expenses, wait time, scheduling what time you will lose for doing houses and scare zones in order to be at the special house for your time period, etc, there might not be many takers for it.

if something makes money for universal/hhn, then they do it.
i don't see this type of 'alone' house, bringing in the big bucks.

even with the waiver, you can't guarantee a person will not be sue happen if some injury happens in the house.

just my thoughts.

You know, I agree.

Answer this though... If they had a ninth house, apart from all the rest, where you could enter by yourself, but still had to pay a 20-25 dollar charge, would you do it.

I certainly would. One day of my two days visit. You go much more Mac, so you probably squeeze it in one of the days.

How about leaving it upon during October on non HHN nights?

In conclusion, I think we would all pay it once, but only once...

i would rather they have a 9th general house so less lines at the other houses and zones.
i doubt it would go as cheap as $20-5. ( the "alone" house )

something that is manned for one person only, would have to be expensive to cover the insurance, man time, extra staff with medical staff available for one house only and the time frame.

if i am in line, the express line, and my time is coming up, i would have to schedule where i am at a certain time period to do the special house.

with some nights, the crowds are thick and it is not easy to walk from one part of the park to another.

i would not want to have to lose my time in the park in order to schedule myself to be available at one place.

they have the 'unmask the horror' tour for the daytime during hhn.
you can do three houses with a guide after an informational period with the TM's. with that in mind, i don't think they would need a different house for the public to buy tickets for.
the groups are kept small and lights are on for the houses you tour in unmask the horror.

those tickets i think were about $35 last year.
i have been doing the day tour since the first year it started.
can't remember last years prices but do remember it was really cheap the first year it was set up.

i know it sounds enticing to some, but for me, i'd rather have the additional house be kept in the theme of the event and open as a regular house for everyone.

Thanks Mac!

You are forcing me to succumb to the tempation to agree on all your points mentioned above.. :worship: :)

You can also go in as a group... HoS was 25 advanced purchase last year for that House..

Anywhoo, it was just a thought. I am thinking about visiting it at HoS but would only get one night at HNN :sad1: We'll see... I'll see...

I did the ALONE House at Busch last year and it was a really great experience. This is what I wrote about it on another forum after I had done it...

So last Friday I did the ALONE house at HOS and here's how it went...

At 10pm I had to check in at the ALONE entrance where I was presented with a severed finger and told to join a short queue until my turn. You're allowed to do Alone in groups of up to 4 (if you're wimps ) but you would only receive the exclusive T-shirt if you did the house alone.

Each person or group went in to the house in 15 Minute intervals so there would be no chance of bumping into the person in front.

I must admit to feeling a bit anxious whilst waiting to go in as I had no idea at all as to what the house contained.

Finally when it was my turn I handed in my finger and was briefed on the rules and told a safety word that I could shout out if it all became too much for me, I was then allowed through a gate by a huge security guard who had been staring me down for the last 5 minutes, he warned me "Don't touch ANYTHING!"

The story to the Alone house is that Alexander Daedalus opened Minotaur Storage' to house his vast collection of 'cultural remains', but now his sinister obsession with hording has expanded to stock piling people. I had been invited to view his collection.

A few spoilers...

There were so many unique and cool things that happened whilst I was in the house that would never work at HHN due to the conga lines.

At one point I had to enter an elevator complete with lift operator (who was missing both eyes). Though fake the lift shook and you could see the lights from the floors as it 'descended' to the basement. When it finally shuddered to a halt all the lights went out leaving me in total darkness. When the lights went back on the lift operator had disappeared, he had snuck behind me in the darkness and whispered in my ear "you may go on". Upon opening the doors I was in a different room.

Another cool bit was a really long pitch black corridor, at the far end was a flickering light where I could make out the shape of a man with two large knives, I had no option other than to walk towards him! As I approached him the walls slid past me giving a very strange impression of depth, it was as if he was rushing towards me even though he didn't move from his spot.

I met numerous other characters in the house some of them even spoke to me using my name, some were friendly others bullied, shouted and threatened me getting right in my face! There was a gory room where two doctors were busy dissecting bodies and I was forced to sneak between them to exit the room.

At one point I reached a dead end, upon going back through the door I had just entered through I was surprised to find myself in a different location!

I loved it in the house and thought it well worth the extra money it was such a unique experience. If you find HHN houses scary then this would freak you out unfortunately I don't scare easily but it did confuse, surprise and make me feel uneasy, it was great fun!

Personally I don't think a house like this could work at HHN due to the extremely small amount of people who would be able to pass through it compaired to a conga line house. Although saying that I would love HHN to have one and would be up for doing it!

It will be very busy...if it's anything like last year. You might want to consider purchasing Express Plus passes for that night.

I'm sure that you'll love it Marquibiri, because you do the house on your own all the attention is directed right at you. Some of the effects are pure theatre, it really is like being in your own horror movie. :scared1: :cool1:

I'm sure they'll remix the house this year and make it even better.

UNIVERSAL PICTURES’ UPCOMING THRILLER “THE THING” TO BECOME

HAUNTED HOUSE EXPERIENCE AT UNIVERSAL ORLANDO’S HALLOWEEN HORROR NIGHTS

Guests Will Experience the Fear of the Film at the “Country’s Best Halloween Event” Before “The Thing” Hits Theatres

From Universal Orlando's Press Release:
ORLANDO, Fla. (July 19, 2011) — An abandoned scientific research facility in the midst of a vast and frozen Antarctica will set the stage for “The Thing,” an all-new haunted house inspired by Universal Pictures’ upcoming thriller, at Universal Orlando Resort’s Halloween Horror Nights 21. In the thriller “The Thing,” paranoia spreads like an epidemic among a group of researchers as they’re infected, one by one, by a mystery from another planet.

The new haunted house will offer guests an unprecedented first-hand preview of the much-anticipated thriller in advance of its October 14 release. Guests will find themselves in a series of face-to-face encounters with “The Thing,” an alien creature that can transform itself into an exact replica of any living being. “The Thing” haunted house will recreate the spine-chilling suspense from the film, confronting guests with the paranoia and fear that comes from being trapped inside the film’s Antarctic Thule station. The shape-shifting alien could be anywhere or anything. Will they survive?

Eerily authentic, “The Thing” haunted house will feature elaborately designed and disturbingly real alien creatures and sets. They will match the film’s terrifying intensity and provoke both a memorable and disturbing experience. Universal Orlando has partnered with the film’s producers, Strike Entertainment’s Marc Abraham and Eric Newman (Dawn of the Dead) to create an experience that is authentic to the film. The sets, audio, musical score, creature and character references are all based on the film. Universal Studios Hollywood’s Halloween Horror Nights event will also offer a haunted house based on the thriller.

“Having recreated well known horror films in the past, the same level of attention to detail has gone into creating a house experience that will completely immerse guests into the storyline and environment of ‘The Thing,’ said Jim Timon, Senior Vice President of Entertainment at Universal Orlando.

Eric Newman added: “We want people to live the film and experience the same terror that affects the film’s characters. Our collaboration with Universal’s creative teams brought the vision of the film to life. We’re excited for Halloween Horror Nights guests to experience ‘The Thing’ in this frighteningly real way.”

Makes sense considering the last time I missed HHN was when they had a dedicated house based upon The Thing, which happens to be one of my favorite movies. And as I won't be able to go this year to HHN, of course they have another The Thing house. :sad1:

thanks

I expect the rides are Jaws, MIB, The Simpson's, The Revenge of The Mummy, and possibly Rip Ride Rocket. Last year there were 8 houses and 5 (or 6?) scare zones.

The start of a new era and the 1st house they have is a remake:confused3
I'm thinking the same thing plus this will be the second remake of "The Thing". I liked the John Carpenter film but this remaking of movies is very annoying. Come up with something new and original every now and then. :sad2:

Actually, this The Thing is a prequel to the Carpenter re-make.
It's all the same story. This film won't be a whole lot different than the two before. Prequel...remake...it's all the same thing...no pun intended. :rolleyes1

But with slightly improved special effects.....well depending on who you ask (ie The new Wolfman would have been better with pratical FX than CGI)
