Official thread for the 2010 Princess 1/2 Marathon & 5k- REGSITRATION IS OPEN!

Anyone doing a 12 or 14 week training program starting now? I was training earlier but I fell off the wagon a little during the end of my grad school semester. I can run three miles without stopping so I can start a 12 week program on Monday. I'm at Fort Wilderness right now for my now 3 year old's birthday!

Just wondering if anyone is starting training now so I don't feel so behind :)
I ran my first 3 miles on Monday. I feel confident that I can catch up. I trained for the NYC full in just under 5 months. Therefore I feel that I can train for the 1/2 in just under 3 months. Now, I just have to stay focused over the holidays and not get distracted by all the merriment.... Good luck to you! Let me know how it is going for you!!

I might be looking for a walk/run buddy for the Princess 1/2. I'm a fairly slow runner so someone that would push me along would be great!

Also, will there be a meet up the night before the race? I might have missed that mention on the board. Thanks!

Thanks, KAA1972! I have officially signed up for the Half! I am doing a run/walk training program to keep my expectations reasonable. I have to train with a jogging stroller and my six month old when my three and four year old are in preschool. That thing is heavy! Hopefully I can run the whole thing next year, but right now my goal is to run as much as I can, walk when I have to, and finish!

My DH decided yesterday he is going to do the 5k, so I'm so excited!!

Just wanted to let everyone know I saw the Princess Half went from 50% full to 65% full today, December 16, for those of you who are waiting to officially register!

I am contemplating wogging again this year. I will be 7 1/2 months pregnant on race day though so I am waiting to get official approval from my dr before I register. (That should happen Friday)
I started a "wogging while pregnant" journal on this board (the journal section) that follows my journey.
I wogged the 13k in October and have just recently started my training for the half in March. I think I'll be in the WAY back of the pack for this race!

Congratulations Lindsay! I was wondering if you were doing any of the races this coming year, but it sounds like you'll be a little bit busy!

Thanks for the update - I just signed up!

Made it through my first run since my (painful) half marathon almost 2 weeks ago. Luckily I have no races scheduled between now and Princess so I will be starting slowly and rebuilding mileage as I feel better. I'll do some weight training after work tonight and have a 3 miler, 4 miler, and hot yoga to look forward to over the weekend.

Hope everyone's training is going well.

Allison, congrats on officially registering. I did that yesterday. I think more people will get off the fence as crunch time approaches.

I took a look at your blog and I enjoyed reading it. Thanks for sharing. I agree with you about peppermint mocha's from Starbucks. They are a delicious indulgence and I look forward to them every holiday season!

Maybe I missed it, so I thought I better ask.

Will we have a Saturday night pasta party? I seem to recall that happening last year... Where was it again?

Hi there! First off, sorry, i have been MIA - last week i had a root canal on a tooth, that later the next day got really infected, and the pain for 3 days was unbarable.. they ended up pulling the tooth, but i was taking 4 advil and a vicadin and it wasn't helping at all!! It was horrible...
But, it's over now, and i have jumped into training..

We WILL have a pasta dinner on Sat. night - about 5pm at the Port Orleans Riverside food court - they have a "make your own" pasta bar there.. We did that last year and it was great! Runs about $10 for dinner.

BTW - did everyone see the new 5k race is going to be themed around the Princess and the Frog movie? The medal looks to be done with the logo of the movie as well.. which i am excited about! :) It was in that latest princess email sent by Disney Endurance Series.

Hey, Caitsmama! Sorry about all the tooth problems.

Thanks for the info on the WISH meet! I may actually be there this year since we are staying at POR... Which means I really have no excuse for skipping it. :)

I haven't seen The Princess and the Frog, but it looks so cute and I'm glad they are theming the race around it. Husband is considering the 5k, and if he does, I may run with him.

Hello princesses! I'm signing up as soon as I have the extra money, which should be in the next few weeks. This will be my first half, and I'm so excited to run it in Disney!

Hi, everyone!

I just wanted to check in and say that I am really enjoying the MfM half marathon run/walk training program. I feel confident now that I can mostly run the Princess half using intervals whereas before I was struggling with trying to train to run the whole thing.

With my lifestyle it really makes the most sense for me to set a realistic goal for myself. I am in grad school and have three very small kids, one of whom is a breastfeeding infant, I am never really childless, so I have to run at night when my older boys are asleep and the baby is taking his early pm nap (he is a terrible sleeper, a constant nurser, and won't take a bottle!). I run in my neighborhood, back and forth past my house in a loop so I can keep an eye on the mailbox flag... if my husband puts the flag up, it means come inside, the baby is awake... HELP! So during the race some of us will try to BEAT THE BUS, but I just try to BEAT THE FLAG. So far, so good.

I just wanted to share my enthusiasm!

The funny thing is with using the walk intervals my pace is not far off from what it was when I was trying to run the whole time! So overall I am feeling excited again about being ready for the race in March.

Happy Holidays to everyone and we'll see what the new year brings!

Amy

Hi Amy,

I loved your story and the mailbox flag part! :rotfl:

I'm also using the MfM Run/Walk program also and it gave me a sense of relief also to know I could do this - in place of a solid run!

Looking forward to hearing how your training progresses...

Cheers, Deb

Thanks, Deb! I've read your WISH journal! You are very inspiring. I admire your dedication. Keep up the great work! :cheer2:

Sheesh! I'm going to have to make up my mind soon!
