Official thread for the 2010 Princess 1/2 Marathon & 5k- REGSITRATION IS OPEN!

I'm excited for the race, too, but I am disappointed with the course. I was hoping it would be the one I saw that went to all four theme parks. This one looks boring, especially since you double back.

I even would prefer the course I saw that didn't go through the MK at all, but started in the Richard Petty Track, though I did think the "Princess" marathon should go through the castle.

I've decided I'm going to sign up this week. (will let you know when it's official) Spent a lot of timing thinking about it this weekend...about all I could think of...

I wrote about it on my journal in this thread -

http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2320715

Hopeful, excited, nervous -- but it's all good. It will be good and healthy for me to work towards a goal that is moving and exercise related.

:woohoo:

I was looking at the map of the race and was wondering how best for DH and kidos (2 and 6 with a double stroller) will best be able to watch parts of the race.

I know there is a bus to the start from POR, but what about to other parts of the race? Will the monorail be open to ride over to the Contemporary or the MK area?

Also, can they watch from inside the park? Like at the castle since it is not the end point?

Looks like the easiest way would be to stay at POLY, but was hoping not to spend the extra $1,000 to stay there, no matter how much I would love to. Maybe this will be the deciding factor...

Thanks!

Before the race last year the website had spectator tips. Here is what DBF did though:

Went to Epcot with me and walked me as close to the start line as he could.

Hopped on the Monorail to TTC then to MK and waited on Main Street for me.

He tried to see me at the Poly on the way out of MK, but got there too late.

Hopped on the monorail back to Epcot and met me at Spaceship East near the Electric Umbrella. He then went out to the finish line.

****

The website didn't recommend trying Main St and another location. Here is what it recommends:

EP-MK/Main St-EP

or

EP-TTC-Poly-EP

However, he chose to not get on a crowded monorail leaving MK, so at my pace, he may have made it to Poly to see me if he had gotten on that monorail.

Thanks so much!

Knowing knowing what is suggested v/s done is good to know too! I know my kids would love the main street part!

I also read from the chat transcript that our progress will be available on-line, so if DH has internet on his phone he will know where I am for the most part, right?

Does anyone know what the cost is for the discounted tickets? Mom and I are trying to figure out if we should skip the discounted rates in order to get a dining plan or pay for food seperatly...
thanks :)

got the room (Saratoga springs thanks to DVC boss) now just need to register for the race!! so excited to be running my first 1/2, my first race even at the happiest place on earth!!

woo hoo!! my dh and 1/2 the kiddos will be coming with. Will they need to be up and out at 4 am as well (if the race starts at 6)? I've never stayed on property before so I'm a little nervous about him traveling alone.

Also, I made an ADR for the Crystal Palace for dinner after the race, for the character experience-good choice or should I book another?

Welcome! :thumbsup2 No, do not make your dh and kids get up at 4am.. LOL (BTW, YOU will have to be up earlier than that! LOL ;) ) They can head out later to watch --
I am really not good at advice on where/how to watch though, since i told my traveling family (Mother in law and my daughter) not to worry about coming to cheer for me.. LOL But, i may change my mind for this year.. so i will also be looking at reading what others have to say about family watching the race. :)
I would assume that the CP would be fine for after the race.. We are eating at MK at the Plaza rest. Just a low key dinner.. not doing the "after party" this time, just hanging out at the MK for EMH.

It's really time for me to get registered...and would like to get my park ticket at the same time, but need to decide what to get...
Does anyone have info they want to share on price?...thinking about a 3 day maybe with a hopper.
I know I'll get my code when I register.

Officially registered, got ticket code just need to decide on hopper or not. Staying at All Star Movie.

Joan, i am not much help, as i have an AP.. but GO FOR THE HOPPER!! LOL :)

Amy - would you mind PM'ing me your spread sheet? February was the last time that I ran due to my neck. It would be a great way to figure out where to start (since the work is already done :rotfl:).

Needless to say, I have my 2 month appt on Thursday to see how I am fusing (after having cervical aka neck surgery with a titaniam plate and screws and cadaver bone). I am hoping to just get some sort of approval here to run! I have been doing my elip for 20 min 4 days a week, but when the sun is shinning I feel like I miss my best friend!

So my game plan rides on Thursday's appt................;)

I was lurking on this board and saw this post, so I had to respond. Swim-mom, I am a fellow 34 year old mom (of 2 -- ages 5 and 2) and recently had the same surgery! I had mine at the end of April, on my c6-c7 vertebrae. I've been cleared to run for a while now and have gotten back into it and plan to run the princess half in March... this is big for me b/c I went to Disney at the same time last year, at the height of my pain from the disc herniation... it was pretty miserable, but disney is good at keeping your mind off of it :) I did make good use of the first aid stations for ice packs ;) So anyway, I want to go back and run instead of hobble around and I'm hoping it will be a way of putting the experience behind me.

So while I'm posting, I also have a barrage of questions...

First... I currently have reservations at All Star Movies. I called and discovered that I had a PIN code for 30% off so I jumped on that. We are looking to stay for 6 nights and do it as a family trip. In the past, when we've gone, we've stayed at Pop Century, but thats not a race hotel. Thought my kids would enjoy the toy story/dalmation stuff.

Problem is... there is no coffee maker in the room! Usually not a problem b/c there's coffee in the dining hall, but I'm concerned there won't be at 4 am?!? I cannot function without coffee, even before a race. Anyone know if there's coffee in the dining hall at that hour? I may seriously consider upgrading to the Port Orleans otherwise, b/c I see they have in room coffee makers ;)

Hah... actually I'm blanking on a second right now... I'm just completely coffee focused!

mjrosso pretty sure there is NO coffee at 4 am at All Stars movie as I've stayed there before and they lose at midnight and can't remember when they open, but not at 4am,

StacyHopper??? It just seems to burn a lot of time traveling from one park to another, but with just my DD (age 19) and me, we may be able to hop efficiently.

Thanks for posting the chat transcript. They got to my question - there were a ton of people asking questions! However, does anyone else notice how they seem to evade questions. Be vague...be very vague! ;)

Some days it seems like the race will be here too quickly, and other times it just seems like it will never be here. My running group is doing great at keeping me motivated...because the last thing I want to do each day is get up super early to run. But, there are a few ladies in my group that had major surgeries and are back to training for marathons and that definitely creates some motivation for me. There isn't one excuse that would stand up to them! So, I just suck it up and go with the flow. It's raining outside, too cold, etc. too bad. Get up and run! :yay:

I stopped using my iPod and iPhone because someone in the group pointed out the obvious. They aren't safe. Usually, the volume is up too loud and how could you possibly know if you were in danger? So, I just use my Nike Sportband to keep the pace and I don't have to worry about carrying anything, or any safety issues. Plus, it creates an additional motivation factor because it tells the distance (not 100% accurate I would think), and shows your pace which is very helpful. I just plug it in to my computer after each run and seeing the progress is a good feature.

As far as the coffee makers - you can request one to be placed in your room so try that and see if they can accommodate the request. It doesn't hurt to ask. I am sure they would understand the circumstances. :)

I love my ipod when running and feel safe as I have cut off the right ear "pod" and only listen in my left ear so when I run against the traffic my right ear is "open" to hear what is going on around me.

StacyYou are right...after much thought I'm going with the hopper on a three day pass.

Running with one earphone is not safe either unfortunately. :( Your hearing is still compromised on that side. Here are a couple of articles. http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-240-321--10353-0,00.html

Besides the safety issue, my times have improved quite a bit since I stopped using the iPod/iPhone and listening to music. So, I guess it is right about what doctors say...your brain truly cannot multi-task. I would invite anyone needing to improve their times to forget the iPod or music device. Try it for a week and see if things improve. You may be surprised. :goodvibes

My son helped me create a "song" on my ipod that is a compilation of lots of fast moving songs but we got rid of the beginning and end of the songs where they tend to be the slowest. I have more than 45 minutes of that one song on my mini ipod and I know where I should be for each mile mark (up to 3) and then I restart the "song". I don't keep the volume up and I can hear traffic and talk to people. I wouldn't think of doing it without my ipod, as it keeps me walking at a good pace.

I have songs like Step by Step by Whitney Houston, Son of Man by Phil Collins from Tarzan, and lots of my favorites.
