Official So You Think You Can Dance Season 7 Thread

I agree with the PP. If they have an extra guy, they should have another girl to even it out. I was sort of surprised that they didn't.

I just had another thought on Ryan Ramirez.....she was in fact the Mia Michaels protege. Mia is a regular full time judge this year. If they had Ryan on the show, Mia would not be able to judge. Maybe they sacrificed Ryan so that Mia could in fact still be on the panel.

This happened several years ago as well. Debbie Allen taught one of the guys that made it to the show. She then backed out of any judging spots that she had during the year and only judged again after he was cut.

I am happy with the top 10. It was awkward and terrible when they told the people in person they didn't make it. I really, really hated this change this year. I liked the walk to the stage so much better.

On the girls I was not crazy about the tapper. The rest seem really great.

The boys are outstanding. If that one guy (Anthony Burrell) that Mia cut in NYC didn't make it (with the injury) then the rest must be tremendous. I can't believe Alex gave up being a principal dancer in a ballet company to do SYTYCD! He must really have a commitment to doing new styles.

I loved when they showed the three boys in the contemporary piece. The comparison of the three amazing dancers was worth watching.

Can't wait for the dancing to start. With 6 boys they will have to bring back another girl alumni or have one dance twice?

DH and I aren't happy about the new format either. I wish they would have added another girl to the group as well to even things out, but from the time they mentioned that Ryan had worked with Mia, I figured that her days were numbered. There is just too much of a conflict of interest there.

So far, Kent, Billy and Lauren are our favorites. :lmao: at Nigel getting paid a visit by the Ohio law enforcement on his way to see Kent!

Other changes are that Mia will be a permanent judge and Mary will be a rotating judge and will choreograph. That leaves Mia only open to choreograph group numbers.

I hadn't heard that, I love it though. Any kind of break from Mary's judging comments/screams is a welcome change.

Good point, I hadn't even thought about that.

I did think that bit was funny, although for the most part I didn't love the hometown reveals.

Can't wit for the dancing to start.

:thumbsup2

Just am not sold on the new format, even though I really like most of the alum coming back. I'm especially disappointed in all of the judge-centric focus & the completely ridiculous set-ups to some of the "comedy".

Daddy's a mobster -- Well, then right through to Vegas w/ you.

Nigel getting lost & a traffic stop.

Nigel harps & harps upon dancers for "pulling faces". That's what all the focus on the judging panel amounts to in my eyes.

This show is supposed to be about, in Nigel's words, bringing dance to the public. Well then, in Nigel's own words once again -- let's get on with it then.

So what does everyone think of the top 11?

Alexie Agdeppa, 26, Rowland Heights, CA - Jazz
Lauren Froderman, 18, Phoenix, AZ - Contemporary Jazz
Ashley Galvan, 19, Burbank, CA - Contemporary
Ana 'Cristina' Santana, 24, San Diego, CA - Salsa
Melinda Sullivan, 22, Culver City, CA - Tap

Billy Bell, 20, Palm Beach, FL - Contemporary
Kent Boyd, 18, Wapakoneta, OH - Contemporary
Robert Roldan, 19, North Hollywood, CA - Contemporary
Jose Ruiz, 21, Miami, FL - Breaking
Adechike Torbert, 23, Queens, NY - Contemporary
Alex Wong, 23, Miami, FL - Ballet

Yes, I have a hard time keeping the dancers straight with a top 20 format, especially early on, but I'll take that any day over putting so many talented dancers through Vegas week only to cut them before the season even starts.

And if they were going to make an exception and have 6 guys, why not add another girl to even things out? I think they should have kept the last girl cut and given her a spot on the show too, that would mean Ryan Ramirez. Wasn't she the Mia Michaels protege? I'm surprised they didn't do that.

I'm reserving judgement on the alumni thing, but my initial reaction when they announced the new format was not a positive one. We'll see.

So anyone you think should have made the cut and didn't? Anyone in the final cast you don't care for? Do you have strong favorites yet? Etc, etc, etc. Where are all the SYTYCD fans?

Thanks for posting the list. There were two guys that I was surprised didn't make it, Anthony Burrell and the tall guy (shoot, I forgot his name) who was the first to be told he didn't make it.

I'm torn about the new format. On one hand, I'd lime to see more of the final 24 make it, but on the other hand, there are returning alumni who I am really looking forward to seeing; Dominic, Twitch, Courtney, et al.

That's a great point. I hadn't thought about that. Hopefully we'll see Ryan next season.

On a side note, my daughter got a text from her best friend last night that her friend was standing next to Nigel. Turns out that he was at a party for Les Paul (I saw a tweet from hm this morning) and my daughter's friend works for the company that was associated with it in some way. I'm not clear on the details, since I went to sleep before she got the full story. The girl tried to call my daughter at one point, but there was so much noise in the background, she couldn't hear what was going on.

:wave2: Subscribing!!! I am brand new to SYTYCD and I am loving it.

I was surprised that one girl dropped out ... I wish she had elborated more on why ... this was a HUGE opportunity for her. I am wondering if Nigel was right, she gets a little negative feedback and throws in the towel.

I was disappointed that Ryan R. did not make it. AND to those that also posted WHY do they go IN PERSON to say "you did not make it" ... ugh. :sad2:

I do love the top ten errr ... I mean ELEVEN ... why not an extra girl?

So, everyone, now what happens TONIGHT???

Just noticed FIVE are from California!!!!!!

Adrian Lee, I was surprised he didn't make it too, I really liked him! He's young though, so hopefully he will try again. I'm not sure Anthony will. I thought he sent out a pretty strong vibe that he felt like this was it for him timing wise.

Is there an upper age limit for the show? 30 maybe?

I loved last nights dancing and I liked seeing some of my Favs from seasons past BUT it was hard to focus on the new people - and that doesn't really seem fair. Maybe it will be better when there are only two dancing.

I really enjoyed all of the numbers but especially Wades opening number and Travis's scary 20's dance. I also enjoyed the hip hop (liked the way they featured the new guy) and Sonja and broadway. Mia - who I usually love - was just okay for me.

I do not like ballroom with three people (creepy?) and thought that was the weakest dance with Christina no where near as good as Anya. Even I noticed Anya's feet were going twice as fast as hers!

I can't believe Anthony didn't make it. I really think it was a slap in the face to his talent. I think he should be there over Jose.

The new format.... I'll reserve judgement to see how it works out.

And I don't see why if the dancer is the BEST in all genre's overall that it matters WHAT their base style of dance is. Too many contemporary dancers was a cop out I believe. Just an excuse to get the tapper and b-boy on the show.

I thought the opening Alice in Wonderland themed dance was great. It was nice to see some of the old faces back although it was hard to pick out who was who with so many people on the stage! I also really liked Mia's contemporary number, the hip hop routine, and Travis' number. Travis was my favorite to win the year he was on the show, and I am glad he is doing so well as a choreographer.

Cat's dress, on the other hand, thumbs down!

Ryan is also a part of Quest. I think Dominic and Hawk are awesome too. If you like them, I think that you will really like Ryan, too. ;)

...did you see them on America's Best Dance Crew?? They were amazing on that...

Even though Dominic is an awesome dancer, I just don't like him. I wish he would stop touching Cat!:scared:

My early favorite is Kent, not only for his dancing but for his personality too. I'm disappointed to see Alex being listed as from Miami, FL. He is actually from Vancouver, BC Canada but I guess that wouldn't fly with the fans so it had to be changed

Actually, I believe it's the rules you must be a US citizen, or have a specific type of visa to qualify for the show. I wondered why in auditions they said Vancouver. I believe they've run into that obstacle w/ a few dancers, & if memory serves, Vancouver in particular w/ Hok, maybe some others from his original dance crew when they auditioned?
