The SOG was absolutley wonderful! It had some new things since we were there in 2004.

There was a Patriotic Mickey Mouse in the lobby given to the SOG by Disney in 2005. Who says there is no Disney themeing at Shades! It was really cute, great photo op. Another new thing for us was the ice cream show, the coffee kiosk near AAFES and the kiosks in the lobby area.

This is the second time I saw someone mention kiosks or a bartender in the lobby area. I don't remember seeing anything there this past May. Is this something new? Or did I completely miss something right under my nose? What's there?

I'm with you. The last time I saw anything in the lobby itself was when Express Cafe had a table set up with muffins and such at breakfast time. There was a Hertz/Photo booth set up in a corner behind the kids' tv area.
If someone would please clarify this new item, the rest of us would appreciate it.

Has anyone who has been to SOG lately tried checking in early? If so, was your room ready? Dh keeps telling me that we need to plan our travel to NOT be there before check-in time, but I just want to BE THERE:cool1:

Yes, there is a 2 seat mini bar near the kids video area. It serve drinks during happy hour but did offer a limited drink selection.

The MM in the lobby, you can get your family photo for 5 dollars, with the folks from Photo Pass.

^^We did check in @ 0930, but depending on how full the hotel is. The room was ready, and walked in, with the celing fan going. Nice touch.

Did get the SOG online survey today in my email.

We've been able to check-in around 12:30 everytime. I don't know if that has anything to do with that we always request (and get) the new section near the garage (but away from the pools). Even if you get there a bit a eraly and the rooms not ready ~ go have a lunch at Evergreens with maybe an adult beverage to kick start the vacation.

Enjoy your trip!

Hi all!

We got home Sunday from our wonderful trip! I will post more later and now we have to get ready for Thanksgiving! I will say that the hotel was a ghost town until we checked out on Saturday. We saw more people on Saturday morning than we saw all week! The week before Thanksgiving is definitely for us! It was cold but we still got in the pool. Of course we were the only crazy family out there -- even the security guards made fun of us! But hey, we were on vacation!

Hope everyone has a MAGICAL Thanksgiving!!

Oh, that'll be us, too! We didn't get a pool side room (and a room at YC) just to look at the pools!!

Something tells me that Florida cold and Oklahoma cold are slightly different. We'll definitely be swimming next week!

Can't wait to hear more!

space question.....should we bring our own hangers?
Is there room in the bathroom for a hamper or anywhere?
Is there a toaster in rooms or is it allowed?
I cant wait to get started packing!!!!!!

Bring your own hangers. There are hangers in the closet, but if you like to hang most of your clothes, you'll need extra.

There's more than enough room for a hamper in the bathroom or just about anywhere else. We kept our hamper in the closet without any problems.

Sorry, no toasters allowed in the rooms.

Have a wonderful trip! :flower3:

we just used an empty suitcase behind the door as our hamper, made it very easy to roll up to the laundry room.

Is there room in the bathroom for a hamper or anywhere?

If you have a handicapped bathroom, space is there. If you have a regular room, there is no space for the hamper in the bathroom. As someone else said, plenty of space in the closet or anywhere else in the room.

Is there room in the bathroom for a hamper or anywhere?

When we stayed in June we were in the new section and found that since the bathrooms have 2 sections- 1 for the double sinks, the other the toilet and shower - we had room in the sink area to place a hamper in the corner. It worked well and didn't take up much space.

We're back from our wonderful Thanksgiving family trip!!!

Have so many wonderful memories of trip and Shades of Green Resort! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Will be back later with lots of photos!!!! :goodvibes

Yes, our PP photos were at the Poly. She took 75 beach, tree, and castle shots of our grand gathering. It's difficult to get 17 in a descent shot at once, let alone all smiling, so we were please with our pics!! :goodvibes

Have a magical trip and I'll try to get some pics up soon!

PS ~ love your cute siggie pics!

We took ours at the Poly in May. We were staying there and loved the grounds, so it was a no-brainer. Our session ended up being free, so that was an added bonus.

Here's our tree pic (and why I recognized yours!):

See, it's difficult to get six people to look at the camera at the same time, too! :rotfl:

:wave2: Greetings everyone!

We are back from our most wonderful Thanksgiving grand gathering trip making lots of special memories and have lots of pics to share soon as I catch up. :goodvibes

SoG: I had read many positive and negative reports during the last year of researching and I will begin by saying, we were most pleased and thought SoG was indeed a wonderful resort!! We consider ourselves very blessed to be qualified to stay at such a wonderful place among so many nice people and can’t say enough good things about this resort! We had great service, bountiful food, beautiful grounds, 480sf rooms w/2 comfy queen beds, plus pull out sleep sofa, fridge, coffee pot and patios! Who could ask for more?! :)

Rooms: Our family had requested 1st floor connecting rooms 1 yr out, near kiddie pool in old section, but as you're aware, rooms are not assigned until you arrive. Upon our arrival and entering our rooms, opening our big sliding door drapes, it was heaven sent with a big yard for grands to romp and only 5 doors down from heated Mickey pool! We joked about having uninvited front row seats for a wedding taking place in gazebo, as bride walked past our rooms ;) . Believe me, it was absolute bliss to come back to the quite peacefulness of SoG to unwind after a busy noisy day at parks and hit the uncrowded pools/hot tubs or slip into our most very comfy beds!! :cloud9:

Food: I had also read - and + about their food ~ all tho we mostly had ADR’s thru Disney, the few times we ate at SoG felt it was a good selection, very tasty, and easy on the wallet. Imagine my surprise to magically have make your own Mickey waffles at breakfast buffet :smooth: !? Who said ‘SoG offered no magic’?! :rotfl:

Buses: Had also heard many negatives about them. The ones we took were newish, spotless, and timely. They fill quickly, so you need to get there early on outbound, also seems some days they run hourly from park to SoG, so if you miss it, you had to wait or find alternative. Yes, it takes time to get to the parks from SoG, a 15 min walk to catch tram at Poly, but it was very suitable for us.

Bathrooms: very sizable, w'hairdryer, shower dispenser for soap and shampoo.

Weather: great 70/75* during day and 40/50* nights...comfortable temps to swim.

With 17 family members on our wonderful trip, 5 cameras and 3 videos, needless to say we have over 2,000 pictures. Also had a 1 hr photopass session at Poly we were most pleased with if anyone is interested or needs info. I have many photos to share of SoG, CTR luncheon, our Grand 1 Yacht fireworks cruise, BBB and parades, etc. if anyone is interested. :goodvibes

I hope my report will help some one else in their planning stages.
Trust me, we really enjoyed ourselves and our family would go back in a heart beat!! :thumbsup2
