I hope you've enjoyed my photos. I remember when we started planning our trip 18 mos ago, there were few and far photos of SoG military resort. I was so happy when JanetRose started this thread so we could all gather, find and share great info and enjoy planning. Thx to all who have contributed! Good luck to each of you anticipating your wonderful trip to the world! We are truly blessed to have such a fine resort as SoG to enjoy :goodvibes!! Godspeed our brave military and thx to them and their family for their many sacrifices. ^i^

Thanks for sharing your photos. It's apparent you had a wonderful time! The new location for the gameroom looks great and the newer buses look even better.

Can someone help me decide on if this is the best idea for us.

My Dbf and I are planning a trip with his parents to SOG before his Deployment in April.
He is a LCpl in the USMC and I just wanted to know if this is a better deal. I started a thread and was on the fence about either staying at another Resort or SOG. I'm starting to think that I should just book through AAA. :confused3

I noticed that the tickets seemed to cost more?
$312 booked through SOG 10 day adult (doesn't say anything about if its park hopper or what) VS. 282 for regular admission 10 day park hopper adult.

Help?

The 312 is for a Stars and Stripes ticket which includes all parks, water parks and DisneyQuest. Unless you want to go to all those you don't need them. $282 for a regular park hopper is what you'll pay at SoG but no taxes are charged - if you get them through Disney you'll pay $287 plus tax.

Don't forget that military members can also purchase amusement park tickets at any military installation through MWR or ITT. You don't have to be present. Most places will mail the tickets to you. I did extensive research online, made many calls, and found Ft. Eustis in Newport News, Va to be the best value and way cheaper than even SOG. Mailing was a flat $15 fee for those interested.

Check post 1523 for an example price list http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1678104&page=102. As of late August, this price list was current. Things may have changed since then.

Do to the financial mess we had to cancel our Nov reservations. Now we will be going in mid January. Does anyone have a January experience. Is it very cold??

I know you don't have a crystal ball, just asking for some stories..

Thanks so much.

Arlene

We were there in early January a couple of times and it was good. I didn't consider it that cold. I do remember wearing a sweatshirt with a light jacket a few times. I also remember a November that the heaviest jacket I had with me wasn't enough. It just varies. I try to pack for layering so it can be adjusted. I also get a locker in the park so if we need heavier or get too warm we can store what we don't need.

We go every January for the Disney World Marathon. Keep in mind, the half marathon is January 10th and the full marathon is the 11th. Both races run in front of SOG. Parks tend to be crowded 2-3 days prior to the races and the weekend of. The crowds usually die down the Tuesday after the races.

The weather can vary greatly. In years past, it has snowed and been in the 30s (2002, 2006) for a few days. :cold:

In 2007, the entire time we were there it was 60s at night & 80s during the day with the typical Florday 100% humidity. :beach:

In 2008, for the weekend, it was 60s at night, 80s during the day... but then a cold front came through (complete with lots of rain & golf ball sized hail) and the remaining days we were there it was 40s at night & low 60s in the afternoon.

The best advice I can give...
PACK FOR ALL WEATHER CONDITIONS!!!!!!!!!!
