I know the last two times we stayed at SOG it was from NOV 9-14 and Nov 8-15 and there were no x-mas decorations up at that time in SOG. We are going even earlier this yr, Nov 5-11 so don't think they will be up then either. They are up in the parks or in the process of being put up so that is super cool. :thumbsup2 We are going to the first MVMCP this yr on the 10th and can't wait. :woohoo:

I love watching them go up at the parks! We were at Disneyland for 3 days last year at the begining of Nov, and it was like a suprise every morning. It was amazing to watch the transformation on Main street every morning!

We're having a family vacation at Disney next year that will include my brother who is active Air Force and my dad who is retired Air Force. One of them will have to sponsor my family of 6 in order for us to stay at the hotel with them which is no big deal.

My question is this:
If I am not with my brother or dad the whole time, will I run into any problems at the resort? Will I be able to shop or dine without him being with me?

Also, does Disney offer all of the same plans if you stay at SOG? For example, can SOG guests use the dining plan and buy their park tickets as part of their vacation package?

Thanks in advance. I read the first 20 pages and the last 5 but didn't see my question answered. I don't have time right now to read the whole 65+ pages.

You don't have to stick with your family the entire time at SOG. Your sponsor needs to be present when you check in and you can only stay as long as your sponsor, but other than that, you're free.

No, SOG guests are not eligible to participate in the Disney Dining Plan or any other Disney vacation packages. You can purchase park tickets at a discounted rate at SOG. The Stars & Stripes tickets are the best deal if you plan on park hopping and visiting the water parks, Downtown Disney. Your sponsor will need to show military ID to purchase the tickets.

When we visited a few years ago, I seem to remember a girl doing hair braids out by the pool. Is she still there, and if so how much does it cost?

We will be staying at SOG for the first time for part of our trip in 18 days and I can post to let you know if no one else has replied!:)

I'm glad this came up. We are sponsoring some friends next May and we wondered if we could buy them tickets with our discount. Do we need to be present also if they are buying items in the gift shop? I heard it was like an AAFES.

It's funny that we have been to Disney Word so many times and never stayed at Shades of Green! It used to be that you had to make reservations a year in advance and they were always full up.

No problem buying tickets but you have to be present with a military ID. The little store is an AAFES and they are inconsistent with ID. They almost always ask for it when buying alcohol but rarely for anything else.

Posted this over at the SeaWorld forum - thought it might be more helpful here (sorry if off topic, just wanting to let deserving people know and sorry if duplicate post):

They thank you and my family does too!

Buying cigarettes is also an item they normally require an ID.

The tree was up the first week of November when we were there one year.

One of the pitfalls to staying at SOG is you can't use ME. So...what do people do to get there from Orlando airport? Has anyone found an inexpensive way (without hitchhiking):thumbsup2

Thanks!!!

You can take a taxi, rent a car, use Mears or hire a car service. We have used a car service in the past. Had no problems. I would guess you are looking at around $100 or so for your cheapest option. Go to the transportation board for more assistance with costs of those individual options.

Yes at the Transportation Board just tell everyone when you are going and how many in your party and you will get help finding the cheapest car rental.
(to help price out your options)

Can anyone post a bus schedule for SoG? Or maybe it has already been posted and I can't find it?

I have some people going who are interested in seeing the schedule ahead of time.

Thanks.

with the exception of the TTC Bus( and you can walk to that in about 10-15 minutes anyway) which runs about every 20 minutes or so..figure hourly on the half hour for the parks and DTD.

Thanks. I have two in the party using ECVs and the others in the group have some small children. I do like to do the walk to the TTC but I'm not sure they are going to be up for that. Does the bus to the TTC run more frequently?

Yes the TTC bus runs every 20 minutes from SOG and TTC. The other buses leave every hour on the half hour from SOG. The buses from HS and Ak leave the parks at either 10 min to each hour or each hour depending on if they stop at a water park.

The nice thing about using the TTC is that you can get to all the other parks from there too and also use it on a return trip if that bus is there before the SOG bus.
