We just came back from our SOG visit and had a good time. The weather was too hot and humid for us Alaskans, but we knew to expect that (and could only travel on those dates.) Spent a LOT of time at the pools. Stayed until they closed at night. Since the pools are basically empty after 10, talked a lot to security guards, etc. One told us they had pulled out two water moccasins from the poy pool so take that into consideration if you do late night walks along those pathways. I mean, why would the security guard say something like that if it wasn't true. (Although, when on a Disney vacation, I prefer to live in "lala Land" and believe nothing there can hurt me. . .)
Great trip. No gator or water moccasin sitings!

We used Sun ray town car service last year. The driver was great. He met us at the baggage claim area and carried our bags to his vehicle. We got a free grocery stop at a Publix on our way to SOG. Roundtrip was less than $100. We got a coupon code from MouseForLess. I've also heard good things about Murray Hill.

The AAFES doesn't sell cases of bottled water, just individual bottles. We picked up a couple cases and other snacks during our grocery stop.

SOG has a bus that goes to the Ticket & Transportation Center every 20 min. From there, you can catch a monorail or boat to MK or monorail to EPCOT or Disney buses to various destinations. About a 10 min. walk will get you to the Polynesian where you can board the monorail or a boat to MK or Disney buses to other parks. If you want to walk to the TTC from SOG, it would take you 15-20 min. SOG also has buses that travel directly to Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom, the waterparks, and Downtown Disney. You'll be given a schedule when you check-in.

We live in west Africa. We've been having high temps go up to 108 this month. We're going to Florida next week to cool off.

we're staying at SOG next jan and i have a few questions :)

what mode of transportation too and from airport is good? We'll have 2 adults, 3 big kids and 1 toddler car seat. We want round trip, prefer not to do a rental car.

Does the onsite AAFES have bottled water cases or can we have some shipped in? how does one go about sending in an order?

how far of a walk is it to the monorail/boat or do we have to bus in to MK?

Hi Angela,

I would recommend a towncar service. For your size group, they'll need a van vs. a true towncar. But the advantage is that they'll meet you at the airport, help you with luggage, and even stop at a grocery store if you arrange it ahead of time. I would go with a company that is widely recommended - like at Mousesavers:

http://mousesavers.com/limo

The AAFES store at SoG does sell bottled water, or you could stop at a grocery store (see above), or you could put in a grocery delivery order through Garden Grocer or a similar company:

http://www.gardengrocer.com

We've used Garden Grocer before and been extremely happy.

As for getting to Magic Kingdom, you have two main options: you can take the SoG bus to the Ticket/Transportation Center (a bus leaves from SoG to the TTC every 15 minutes), and then from the TTC take the monorail or ferry to the Magic Kingdom. Or you can walk to the Polynesian (about a 8-10 minute walk with kids) and then take the resort monorail to the Magic Kingdom.

Hope this helps!

could you all post what /if any transportation companies you used to go from airport (MCO) to SOG? and did they offer car seats?

I have used tiffany towncars and a company that this site won't let me post that begins with quick and ends with silver. I had good experiences with both for cars, but for van with tiffany we got this nasty wreck of a van, so I probably won't use them again. I think in the car, they had boosters (we brought our own car seat) but check the website to be sure.

ok , this might sound like a stupid question... water moccasian? like a shoe? Why is that dangerous?

water moc as in the big snake kind. :scared1: I have been to SOG several times and always see a gator but never any snakes. :yay:

Gators I don't mind, snakes scare me to death. Hate them, but never have seen one at SOG. I don't even like those little lizards that run the sidewalk!

the one I made ressies with assured me that they would have a seat for the baby, forward facing 5 pt harness (she'll be 2 then)

You may know the Water Moccasin by it's other common name: Cottonmouth.QUOTE]

EEK!!!!!!!! :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

That I know!!!
Thank GOD I didnt see any of those!! I think the lizards are cute, although I live up north where I dont have to deal with them everyday. I have a friend in NC who says they can be a pain in the rear.

Does my little avatar guy give you the heebie-jeebies?

No, that doesn't bother me. I expect that guy, it is the one that suddenly darts out in front of me when I'm walking on the path. Or the ones that run across in front of my patio door as I start in the house. The startle effect, I guess.

It's like mice, no one wants to see a mouse in the house...they are naked. :scared1: Mickey, Fival and Mighty Mouse have clothes on so they don't bother me. :lmao:

I know this has been asked before, but can someone please explain what the Stars & Stripes consist of? Any advice on which ticket package to purchase? We want to go from park to park and spend at least 2 nights at downtown disney. Thanks for the help!

The Stars and Stripes includes the hopper and waterpark, sports, and Pleasure Island entrance. It expires one day after your length of stay. So if you are there for 4 days, your tickets expire on the 5th day. If you don't plan on going to the water parks or PI or sports complex, I wouldn't buy Stars and Stripes. It would be cheaper to buy the regular tickets with the hopper option, which you can also purchase at SOG. Have a fun trip!!

We just arrived at SOG today and I have posted some pictures of SOG and info about it so far in my trip report if anyone wants to view them. We love it and I am SO glad we stayed here. If you have any questions please feel free to post on my trip report and I can see if I can find out or answer your question.

We were there same week (surprise, lol). We were in the new section overlooking the golf course (towards the garage). We were the ones wearing Sox hats (lol). We had 10 of us/family from ME/NH.
