Tennis shoes always work best for me, or really good sandals, but unless its a new pair of tennis' you dont want to be breaking in a new pair of shoes at disney!

on the plus side, your going before the holiday rush hits and it gets to be a madhouse, you need to make a few ADR's if your going to want any sit down meals though. I would just pick which parks you think youll want to go to in what order, then call and see whats available. Of course you can always eat at SOG without a reservation.

What are you planning on carrying around? Usually a fanny pack or extra pocket in the camera case works for us, if you buy anything in the park you can have it sent back to SOG, no need to carry it with you.

Thanks for the reply. Here in Louisiana I wear sandals all the time, but don't think they'd do for all of the consistent walking. Tennis shoes seem like they might get heavy? And hubby wants Crocs because of them being waterproof and doesn't want to walk around in wet shoes. DD has her Mickey Crocs she's had for years. That's fine for her anyway. How long does it take to break in Crocs? Or the fake crocs? I don't see spending all that money for shoes we'll wear for 1 week and then won't ever again. I swear we are the most difficult family in the world :rolleyes1

We will probably eat mostly at SOG, but would like to do 1 or 2 ADRs. I've heard that Kona is to die for. And since we could walk there, it may be our best bet!

Looks like we will be there at the same time.

I used to carry the very embarassing fannypack, but, for this trip I just purchased a Vera Bradly Mini Hipster. I have been using it the past few days for quick trips to the store and to soccer games and I LOVE IT! It will work out perfect for our trip.

As for shoes, I always wear sneakers. They don't always look stylish, but they are comfortable. I remember on our honeymoon I tried wearing stylish shoes to Epcot, well, I paid for that for a few days. I had blisters galore! So much for fashion.

I'll see you there.
Hey, we will be there at the same time! :yay: We'll be there 15th - 23rd.

The bag looks cute but I don't think I'd be able to get my hubby to carry it :)

Do you feet get wet in tennis shoes? Do they seem heavy with all that walking?

I use tennies or comfy sandals but I have seen a lot of crocs in the parks :goodvibes

I used to carry the dreaded fanny pack too. Now, I carry a very small disney hobo purse that fits right over my shoulder and only hangs down an inch or so past my bra strap. It fits my phone, small camera, lipstick, cash, cards etc. It is perfect and easy to stow on rides :lovestruc
Are they the brown leather sandals? That's what my hubby & I usually wear and he was the one talking about them getting wet and how *ewww* that is. (Okay, he didn't say ewww, but you know what I mean :) ) Same thing for the tennis shoes.

What about flip-flops? Do you think they'd flip off? I never thought I'd be making such a big deal out of shoes!!!! Sheesh!

Good luck on Wednesday. Defending your thesis is nerve-racking. I just kept on telling myself that I had worked on it for so long I knew the subject inside out.

All three of us use the dreaded fanny pack, so each of us can carry what we need. Sure, not the most fashionable accessory, but alot of other people wore them - no one noticed us, nor we them. We are going with friends next time, maybe I should look for something a little more "chic".
We all wore sneakers. They were broken-in, but I had not worn mine for that amount of walking. The quilted bottom gave me a huge blister on the bottom of my foot. So next time I go, I will get smooth soled shoes about 6 months before I leave. I wear sneakers to work everyday now, instead of dress shoes, so I will have a chance to make sure they work all day, every day without problems!

Good luck and enjoy your trip! It'll be good to relax and goof off for awhile!

Thanks for the encouragement! I'm starting to think I know NOTHING about my topic. But I'm neurotic, so it's to be expected, I guess  And I can't wait to not worry about anything and have fun!!!:cool1:

I haven't worn my tennis shoes in a while either, so in addition to the heaviness & wetness I should definitely consider that. I can't believe I was actually in a store looking for a fanny-pack yesterday! Hubby says he still has his from LONG LONG LONG ago but has to find it. I almost hope he can't find it in the attic :rolleyes1

Thank you everyone for all of your advice! We may look for cheap Crocs after church today. I hope we have enough time to break them in? I wonder if anyone has ever defended a thesis in Crocs? :confused3 hmmm

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!

I wore my Crocs during my last trip for the whole first day - got back with two bad blisters so I wore sneakers for the rest of the trip (with lots of moleskin!).

During my next trip I plan on wearing a good pair of sneakers every day, putting moleskin on the areas prone for blisters before I get one (!), wearing a pair of nylon socks under my regular socks (never tried this before) and soaking my feet in the hot tub after a long day which helps them feel better and ready for the next day!

I asked a couple days ago, but I thought I'd ask again. I'm not sure where else to ask this, but does anyone know where the ADA (accessible) rooms are located at SOG?

I'm hoping they are close to the parking garage and/or the shuttle pick up. My mom is very nervous as it is the first time we have been back to WDW since she began using a wheelchair, and I just want her to be comfortable.

Thaks for your help.

My DH is in a wheelchair and we have been placed both in the "new" wing and the old. I prefer the new, for a couple of reasons.

1. It is the closest to the parking garage, so if you are driving that is much easier. However, if you want to be close to the garage call and request that. I didn't say that specifically and we were somewhat far from the garage. It still worked out ok for the rest of the week, but it was a hike to the garage.

When we were in the old section we were quite far from the lobby/bus depot, and it is all carpeted, which makes wheeling difficult, so you want to be as close as possible.

Our most recent trip we were in the new section on the first floor, but it was a bit of a hike through the halls to get to the lobby. We found it much quicker/easier to go out the patio door and cut across the courtyard to where you can enter by the buffet. We hopped the elevator and we at the lobby in no time.

2. In the old section there is a half wall that sticks out next to the bed which devides the bed area with the "dining" area. For us this made it difficult to transfer DH into the bed.

I would call and let them know your concerns, they have always been really helpful to us. Good luck, and have a great trip!

We're at SOG (old section) and WDW right now. We're taking a short break between AK and Ohana for dinner today. We wear tennis shoes. I see people in flip flops, crocs, etc. Don't know how they don't get blisters or really sore feet. I have NEVER gotten blisters wearing tennis shoes and socks.

BTW, the weather is beautiful and we're having a great time. SOG is hosting the Children's Miracle Network golf tourney this weekend (it's actually over as of today) so it was busy here yesterday and this am. There are people directing traffic at the entrance so we had traffic stopped for us to cross the street to the poly. Gotta go get ready for our ADR at 7.

I really enjoyed the turkey club from Evergreens. You are right the rings are not what they used to be. They used to feed quite a few people.
Sorry you had to come home. :sad1: We probably lost a lot of leaves while you were gone.
The one thing I love about going during April vacation is that the trees usually have leaves or buds on them when we get home. It makes it not so hard to come home knowing summer is right around the corner.

I did notice that our trees were rather naked. Your right, it was very hard to come back to the cold, dreary weather. I just reread my post, I didn't mean to sound so bad about Evergreens. We did have some stuff that was good there.

Dorrine, I looked for you too, but never saw you. We had to have crossed eachother's paths and just never noticed. :) Glad you had a great trip! We are heading back for halloween 09 again. We love it that time of year as well. We won't be staying at SOG this time though, we are bringing the camper down and staying at the fort. Either way, it will be a great time I'm sure!

Hi! New poster here. First time at SoG. We tried for our anniversary 13 yrs ago, but got put in an overflow and loved WL. Scmileyfan,
Welcome to SOG and the SOG forum. You will love the place. There are reasons some of us keep coming back year after year. There just isn't anything like it.

We'll be re-checking in on the same day you arrive. Congratulations on getting a room at this late date, I made my ressies right after Christmas last year.

As a prior AF member I would have loved to stay at SOG, but the only time per year veterans are allowed doesn't fit in our schedule. It is good to see a forum based on this program, it was nice to see they had this at Disney.

NO! STEP AWAY FROM THE FANNY PACK! :rotfl2: Really, people do notice. Just sayin' :rolleyes1 There are lots of small bags out there that you can wear across your body - they fit under the Seat belts at disney, or go easily in the pockets provided on the rides - they are lightweight and fashionable. I have a liz claiborne that holds a camera and sunglasses, and has an organizer pocket, and I have a little bigger no name one that holds a water bottle.

As for shoes, I love my Mickey crocs! The only thing that doesn't make my feet and legs hurt - but I do have a hard time with shoes. I started to get a blister from the metal thingy one day - had to wear socks  Luckily the fashion police were MIA that day! :rotfl2: I was glad, actually, because it rained, and the socks were the only thing that kept them on my feet while I ran through the knee deep water!

As for your panic, focus on your thesis defense - then take a deep breath and cross one thing off your list at a time - you'll be fine! :thumbsup2

I am sure that we crossed paths too.... I can't remember your room #, but I think you may have been right below us. :)

Hello everyone! I'm beginning to freak out! :scared1: We have 7 days and I'm not ready yet!!

We haven't set our itinerary, checked for reservations, etc. --- I just don't know what to do! I'm in post-graduate school & have to defend my thesis on Wednesday. With that and homeschooling, I've been extremely busy! I haven't had time to post or read all of the pages since my last post.

So I'll probably have a lot of questions in this next week as we try to prepare.

#1. What do you use to carry all of your stuff around the parks? I don't want to lug a backpack or purse (if you saw how much I pack you'd understand!) This is very embarrassing, but does anyone carry a...a... fanny-pack? The thought is horrible, but I don't see any other option...:scared: We will have wallets, keys, camera, etc. It's me, DH, & DD - 9 yrs.

#2. What kind of shoes do you wear around the parks? Sandals? Tennis shoes? Heaven-forbid, Crocs?

I'm sure there's more to ask, but that's all my neurotic brain can think of at the moment :) My mind will be clear Wednesday night but I fear it will be too late!

Thanks!

Nikki -- pray for me please!

I carried the Vera Bradley hipster, and I loved it! I loved the thicker strap, which is adjustable, because it was comfy on my shoulder and didn't rub my neck. I carried it across my body and it never bothered my back. I was able to carry all of my essentials in it, I attached a carabiner clip to the strap, as well, to attach shopping bags (but I never needed too, they were all small enough to fit in the bag). Best of all, was the I could go to the restroom and not have to remove everything (where when I wore a fanny pack it was always such a pain).

You will have a fantastic trip, I'm sure! :)

Maybe we'll see ya there!! We've requested a pool room, so look for a brown family by the pool (hopefully it's nice enough to swim...DS would be so sad if he couldn't, especially since we can use SAB while at YC!!).
