Official Poly construction update thread **updated video page 103(2/17/15)**

looks like CC is in the same space, just with new decor, or am i wrong on that?

No, you are not wrong ... same place, same size. They just freshened up the décor, apparently took out the ordering kiosks and added some new menu items.

I'm sure this has been discussed before but I haven't been back in a while and I'm starting to ponder our next trip to Poly now…

We go to WDW and stay at the Poly every year for my kids' bdays, usually at the end of Jan. We've stayed in both Hawaii and Tokelau several times. We love the quiet pool and the convenience of the monorail from both the GCH and TTC (we have a DD in a wheelchair so accessibility is key). With all of the construction happening, is it still worth it to stay at the Poly? What will still be closed at that time? Tikiman, your advice been incredibly helpful all these years so we appreciate anything you have to say on the matter. Thanks!

Oh and I haven't missed any deals released for that time yet, have I? I think it's usually Oct.

So torn between the Poly and WL during the week of Xmas. Any idea of how the resort will be at that time? Will the quiet pool be open? I see there is a small bar there (unfortunately my favorite bartender Tim left). Any other changes? We would prob stay GV CL if we stay. We are taking friends who have never been!! We have stayed at the WL last two years at Xmas and this summer at the GF. I just love being on the monorail. So easy to go back and forth and so many dining options.

Checked in to the Poly yesterday morning :)

Happy to try to answer any questions if I can..

We are truly enjoying it here the staff have gone way above & beyond to ensure our comfort & enjoyment of the Resort.

This morning we are at the quiet pool before heading to EPCOT this afternoon. There is most certainly construction noise, but it is def not obnoxious. You can tell there is allot going on at the Nanea (sp?) pool & can hear muffled indoor construction noises from Tokelau.

Having said that... we came back from AK yesterday at about 4:30pm and all was quiet & peaceful - it remained that way until this morning.

We have a full view of the Grand Floridian and the lagoon/beach from our 3rd floor room on Aotearoa - we were able to watch Wishes from our balcony last evening :)

We are here on that "August Special" from the TA not to be mentioned here...

Lagoon View, great building steps to GCH, not lacking for anything so far... $212 a night all taxes in -- we have no complaints! ;)

Glad you are enjoying your stay! We will be there in ten days and I can't wait!!! Now that Kona Island is closed is there anywhere that I can grab a cup of real coffee?

Will check when we get back to the resort later & post my findings. :)

Real coffee (Kona French press) available at Kona Cafe.. also at Ohana. Room service also offers a 2 person pot of French Press Kona.

Captain Cook's is serving Joffery's - it's ok. Much better then the Nescafé that was everywhere in the past...

Moana Mercantile now open!! 2nd Floor next to the Monorail exit - opposite side of floor to Kona.

Pictures later! (breakfast first!)

Thanks for the update!!! Are you planning to take advantage of BB? How does that work? Also, how is the pool closure affecting access to the beach and boat launch areas? We are considering changing to Poly in Dec 2014 (so far away) for a couple of nights. TIA!!

The boat launch is still fully accessable. There is a section of beach cordoned off directly adjacent to the feature Pool, but there is still beach access in front of Hawaii, with chairs, swings & the fire pit. They showed the movie there last evening. There is also beach access adjacent to Tuvalu on the GF side near the Luau Cove.

The quiet pool has been very under used since our arrival, we are often the only ones there :) I'm guessing the majority of guests are taking advantage of the chance to go to Blizzard Beach.

The current BB offer is free dining from August 20/15 to October 2/15 most nights, on a 6 night/7 day stay room & ticket package. All levels of Resorts included - with several exceptions involving certain rooms in particular resorts. BB is booked before you check out, or by using the code provided for a limited time after you return home. I am not booking the BB offer this time, we plan on a winter escape trip in Feb/Mar/or April - no dates offered for that time of year sadly. lol...

The Moana Mercantile has now opened on the second floor near the Monorail access. The Pineapple Lanai is pretty much complete & ready to go... wouldn't be surprised if it opens over the weekend or early next week.

Things are progressing along here. ;)

Thanks for all the info. Can I just ask if you can still see the castle when sitting on the beach in front of Hawaii? In some pictures I saw, it looked like the bungalows completely blocked the view, but I couldn't be sure.

One of our favorite things to do at the Poly is sit on the beach to watch fireworks at night, and it wouldn't be the same without that castle view.

I haven't been over to the beach at Hawaii yet :)
We've been using the other beach near the GF just outside our room.
We've come back from MK a few times on the Launch & walked up the Dock - we were able to see it from there...

There are tables around the marina area that people have been sitting at this week with a drink or coffee that provide a dead on view of Wishes - perfect. Right in front of Tonga.

Just passed thru the rear lobby.. looks like the Pineapple Lanai is ready to open. Could be as soon as tomorrow ;)

Will post pics soon... my photobucket for iPhone is not cooperating right now... I sent them to Steve (Tikiman) on FB & he has shared them.
